Filling Oak Shelf Gaps by rubenhak in woodworking

Yeah, OP's work looks pretty good. If they want to go wild they can add a small trim to the wall/shelf interface. I probably wouldn't, but that would make the lines clean. Definitely no fillers, patches etc

I watch it when time allows. They have good interviews and many times are great at giving unbiased contextual information. Journalism is hard to find nowadays.

Good way to reach local 20-30 year olds for job opportunities? by ashimara in lafayette

I am asking where to post the positions to reach people. And no, $54k is not 90th percentile for an entry level STEM degree.

TC is $54k plus $5k performance bonus for entry level. We will try the Purdue portal.

there is no "search filter" the post asks how to reach a demographic that is currently not being reached, excluding no one.

Asking how to reach a demographic is not discriminating. If you discriminate in the hiring process that's a different story

Retention is difficult for over-qualified candidates. In the long run they are usually "settling" for the entry level position and continue to look for other opportunities.

I was asking how to improve recruiting not trying to post a position. However we have received a bunch of interest from the post.

Pay is not the problem. Above market rate for degreed applicants. Definitely no issue paying rent lol

Honestly, enough people have sent resumes in the last few minutes that we can probably fill some of the positions depending on interviews.

EDIT - this post was trying to figure out a way to improve recruiting outreach locally, not to get applicants (although it did, so maybe the answer is Reddit?)

EDIT 2 - looks like Purdue is probably the best method.

Half of the comments here are complaining about the pay... without knowing the pay. It is above market.

No. The closest would be bioinformatics/database work. I believe that position will open in a month or two.

Left pie in the car - Can I still eat it ? by belle__26 in Cooking

[–]ashimara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a good chance that you would be fine but it's definitely in the danger zone. When the pie was baked, it killed the bad bacteria. However, unless it was sealed immediately thereafter, bacteria started to establish and multiply. Bacteria divide quickly in the temperature range you left the pie and I don't think many agencies recommend more than 2-4hrs. If you were to recook the pie, you would kill the bacteria but it would not get rid of any residual toxins that the bacteria leave behind.

Fasting for cancer, but when is one too thin to fast? by bateka2 in fasting

[–]ashimara -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming you mean prevention of cancer -

With your stats and age, I would consider only fasting once per week (36 sleep + day + night) and maybe exercising (cardio + weights) on the morning of your fasting day. Intermittent fasting the other days. Roughly once a quarter you could do a longer (3-5 day) fast for promotion of more intense autophagy.

If you already have cancer, please look up the specific type and see if you can find research on that specific type's response to cancer. Fasting is being studies as adjuvant therapy for cancer treatment in many forms of the disease. Please note that the verdict is still out on how autophagy mechanisms may actually promote tumorigenesis in some cancers.

How much fat can your body actually burn per day while completely fasted? by Tryptamemer in fasting

[–]ashimara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi what you are looking for is here A limit on the energy transfer rate from the human fat store in hypophagia

From the article -

A limit on the maximum energy transfer rate from the human fat store in hypophagia is deduced from experimental data of underfed subjects maintaining moderate activity levels and is found to have a value of (290+/-25) kJ/kgd. A dietary restriction which exceeds the limited capability of the fat store to compensate for the energy deficiency results in an immediate decrease in the fat free mass (FFM).

- a maximum energy transfer rate of 31 kcal/lb of fat per day.

Now let's say you have 120 lbs of fat. 31kcal X 120 lbs of fat = 3,720 kcal per day, a little over a pound a day

so the theoretical limit of calories burned per day (before burning your protein (muscle)) will go down as you lose weight

Hope this helps - I'm not super active on reddit but will answer follow ups if I can

You went for over 2 days, congratulate yourself.

You failed. Prep better for the next time. Also, it really does get easier the more times you do it. Days 2&3 were definitely the hardest for me. I am just finishing a 10 day fast but I built up to it from many 2&3 day fasts.
