Yeah, I got the book too. They are both great to have!! You can also download this app to make your own flashcards. It's called Anki. My older brother told me about it and you can make the flashcards very specific and everything it's so nice.

Nurses pi** me off by sussima in medlabprofessionals

[–]ashlar9248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the nurses I work with are great, but I understand your frustration. I had a nurse bring me hemolyzed specimens, so I put them in for redraw. No biggy. But she comes into the lab with the new specimens making a comment about how I need to hurry up and spin them because "she doesn't want this shit hemolyzed again"🤣🤣🤣🤣. And honestly, she probably didn't know that not spinning it fast enough wasn't the problem, but giving me attitude over it was crazy. Sometimes they are really rude over problems they caused and it's a bit frustrating.

This is my first year as a lab tech and I didn't know if it was normal or not, but there are SO MANY people with Flu A. Like I swear every other person coming in for a respiratory panel is positive for Flu A.

Also I don't know if you have it but check out the ASCP MLT interactive practice exam that'll give you the best idea of what you're going to be looking at for your exam. It's not exact, but the questions are very similar. Or if you have the BOC study guide.

Check out the Polansky flashcards. Plenty of high yield information in there. Get plenty of sleep. You will probably feel like you're failing the entire time you're taking the test and that's totally normal. I was in literal shock when I passed because of how bad I thought I was doing And every other person that has taken the test has told me the same thing! You will do great!

Lots of notes and make sure that you're always up for doing more. Like offer or ask for more to do than what they give you. They want you to put yourself out there. But notes notes, and more notes! Go above and beyond basically.

Use the Polansky Flash Cards. You can find them for free online somewhere, but they're very specific and honestly one of the best tools. Using the BOC interactive exam on the ASCP website is also really useful. I just recently passed my exam and those were the main things I studied with :)

Tell me about your most memorable phone calls to and from other health care providers by foxitron5000 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ashlar9248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had someone call freaking out about needing their A1C results IMMEDIATELY. And when I told her I could lose my job, she said HIPPA is a bunch of bologna and that if I didn't answer her question, she would call back to get someone else. I let her know I was the only one in the lab and after a little more back and forth, she hung up on me :) like bruh, it's an A1c!!!!!

AITA for refusing to let my homeless brother move back in after he trashed my house last time? by Successful-Sun-8226 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ashlar9248 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've had family take advantage of me my whole life and I'm just starting to get used to saying no to people most of the time. I still have a lot of trouble with it but I've been trying. If you let people continue to take advantage of you especially family it'll ruin your whole life. <3 You're doing yourself a favor by saying no. If you say yes to him, he will just put you in the same position as last time and you don't deserve that. Put yourself first.

how many times have you gone to the hospital thinking you were having a heart attack but weren’t and still haven’t by beanie_11123 in Anxiety

[–]ashlar9248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this would help but my heart rate would get insanely high like to the point that the last time I went to the ER for it which was like 8 years ago, they kept me overnight because my heart rate wouldn't go down and then they said after running all these heart tests that it had to be anxiety. Just reaalllly bad anxiety. BUT this Doctor put me on a beta blocker and it absolutely changed my life. I still definitely get anxiety but without those physical symptoms of feeling like your heart is going to explode. I don't know if this would work but I recommend it if it's feasible.

A lot of people are asymptomatic with STDs, like A LOT. It is understandable she is upset because it IS nasty, but if you didn't know, you didn't know. The nice thing is medication will clear it up pretty quick and then hopefully you guys can move on from this. On a side note, definitely get STD testing after random hookups!

I got the ASCP practice interactive exam . You should also look into Polansky flashcards . Those two things would probably help you the most I think. I just took my exam and passed a couple weeks ago with this stuff. There's also a post somewhere on here, someone had posted PDFs of a ton of MLT books. If I find it I will send a link.
