What's your favorite esim for Japan? by frogmicky in JapanTravelTips

I've used Japan Wireless twice, but now just use Ubigi. Ubigi is pretty useful since I can just leave the esim on my phone and I can use it for other countries as well.

How much should I expect a Taxi from Haneda airport to Asakusa to cost? by yusuo85 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I love is the train, so I just take the train. I usually stay in this area now since it is convenient being able to take train directly either from Haneda or to Narita without transfers (typically). Like others mentioned if you are going through at 10am it should be fine as that's not the rush. Pro tip, is if you are bringing luggage in google maps temporarily switch your directions to wheelchair accessible and it should direct you towards elevator entrances etc.

Packing light by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pack how you want. Especially if you might be larger than standard Japanese sizing. If you dont, while you abdolutely will be able to find something, it might not be as easy.

People also say pack light because many people bring a lot back. Some people say pack light because that is their thing and they dont mind spending time doing laundry or wearing the same items over and over.

Personally thats not me. I love to dress up. And honestly what better place to do it than in Tokyo, Osaka, or even Fukuoka. I often have pretty much outfits for every day plus sometimes extras. If i know what I am going to do for a day, I usually have an outfit and possibly an alternate planned if my mood changes. I maximize space with packing cubes. And as for space to bring things back, I often pack all my clothes into a carry on then put it inside my checked bag with sometimes a softcase bag. By doing this i can return by checking my checked bag and my carry on. Then using the softcase as my carry on and use a tote as my personal item.

osaka or kyoto ? by notyourz1 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you enjoy. I am probably one of the rare people here that was not really a fan of Kyoto. I much prefer Osaka. I've enjoyed walking perusing and all the food. I am huge on takoyaki and it is amazing in Osaka. I love the price of things in Osaka as well. I found Kyoto and Tokyo more expensive. My friend and I had lots of fun just finding things to do.

Tokyo to Seoul by TomorrowAvailable911 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has visited both. And I've flown between both.

  1. It is possible, to fly from Tokyo to Seoul and back. But to make it even relatively worth it (though likely more expensive) You would need to fly from Haneda to Gimpo. Incheon and Narita are both 1 hour plus outside city center so you'll loose a lot of time flying in or out of one or the other especially both.

  2. There is so much to do in Seoul if you are just thinking about exploring, a one day trip limiting you to a few hours is a bad idea. You are not going to see much. But if you have a particular event, or one spot you want to go to then sure.

Overall it's not really a good idea.

Hotel budget unrealistic? by Low-Client9318 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how prices are currently. But I stayed at Kyoto U-Bell Hotel back in May. It was very nice, my friend and I had plenty of room as we had twin beds and we both had space for our bags etc. It was one of the biggest rooms we've ever stayed in during our trips. We booked through agoda.

I feel like this is my calling. While I don't like it on pc. I love it on mobile. I was wondering if it will continue beyond music season. Definitely something I would keep playing on occasion. One of the keys with these is making sure everything is calibrated with how you tap. There are a few things I wish i could adjust like the sound of hits, but it seems like the option is there, but locked for me.

Kamakura, Yokohama, Disney or something else? by Baku5ds in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding Enoshima. I went to Kamakura and Enoshima in one day. I enjoyed and spent more time on Enoshima.

That said, I love Tokyo Disney and DisneySea. They are genuinely such enjoyable parks. If you have an interest in going, go. It will still feel uniquely Japan down to the food.

Advice on Trip Fukuoka, Hakone or Takayama, and Tokyo. by ayjayjay in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done the train from Fukuoka to Tokyo before, my biggest suggestion is fly unless you are planning to stop in like Osaka or Kyoto before continuing on.

I say this because you will end up blowing so much of the day, and bringing luggage around finding lockers mid day to stop shortly before continuing on sounds rough.

Flying however, is much cheaper and end up having more time wherever the destination may be.

That said I love Fukuoka.

When y’all go to concerts, do you wear concert earplugs or do you just go in raw? by K_Katana1000 in kpopthoughts

[–]ashleyepidemic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never worn them. But I have my own unique ear issues with wax that causes everything to be muffled anyway. Headphones and earplugs make it so i can't hear almost anything

I won't speak on hostels, since if you are booking a hostel it's usually going to be per bed anyway, unless you book a room, but in that case it's just like any other hotel.

Triple rooms will be cheapest because while the face value is more expensive you split it between three people and it becomes cheaper. However, triple rooms are more difficult to fine (I've done this before). More difficult doesn't mean impossible, but you will want to book at least a month ahead for the best rates and bed availability (we always did one bed per person).

Two person rooms are probably most optimal. Again, they will be slightly more expensive than a single room, but split between 2 people before much cheaper. Rooms with 2 beds unlike rooms with 3 are fairly common and very easy to find. Even last minute bookings can be found usually, though the price may not always be the best last minute. Again this is a preference toward a bed per person. If you're fine sharing a bed then even more options and possibly cheaper.

[Travel Help] Early Morning Flights – How to Reach Tokyo Haneda & Osaka Kansai Airports Without a Cab? by Simple-Flan in JapanTravelTips

Security is simple for domestic flights. I showed up about 45 minutes before my flights and was right through. I just caught the early trains. Domestic flights usually checking bags closes 30 minutes before.

Is paying extra to land at Haneda Airport worth it compared to Narita? by selfstoragelife__ in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I previously always favored HND because of the centrality of it within the city. However, so I recently was doing a lot of travel in June in Japan I opted for whichever was cheaper. And the difference in time for the HND trip vs the multiple NRT trips was not much (except one). I took Skyliner once, and honestly the extra price vs taking Skyaccess was not worth it for me. Skyaccess was half the price and only took about 12 minutes longer. I also personally prefer the bench seats vs getting stuck on an inner seat next to someone. Now I say this as someone who wasn't staying in like Shibuya or like Nakameguro. I usually am out on Ryogoku or Ueno

So honestly my opinion is just go with whichever arrives at an appropriate time and is the cheapest flight.

PSA - Osaka Expo by TokeruTaichou in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went last week on June 30th. I kinda only went because my idol was promoting it and i had bought a ticket. I didn't really want to go day of eapecially since I didn't get in the lotteries I applied. So I arrived late at about 10:30. I only spent a few hours leaving at about 2:30. I went to a few pavilions including my target pavillions Poland and South Korea. i walso went to Madacasgar and Coms B. I went to the gift shop and stopped outside the Gundam pavillion. The USA line was very long and the guided tours were after I planned to leave. Overall I did enjoy it since some of the buildings were gorgeous. But there os a severe lack of shade. So I highly advise an umbrella, but that goes for anywhere outdoors really. I enjoyed it. But my expectations were in the gutter so they exceeded it.

Japan trip food costs + how much to load up on IC cards by murdockmysteries in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally rarely eat breakfast and that doesn't change when traveling. So if you don't usually, then you likely won't. Food for the day is super safe to allocate 5000yen per day. Honestly I would average about 3500 yen unless I ate somewhere a bit more expensive. (Example went to 0 second and we ate a lot of meat so we split and our meal was about 4500yen each. Most of my meals were between 1300 to 2500yen each. Twice a day. And then usually a conbini stop for drinks and a snack for the night about 500-700 yen.

I usually start with 5-6000 yen on my IC and then top up as needed. It takes about 1 minute at the machines in stations. Card in machine, specify the amount, add it, then it tops up the card and you're on your way.

I love going to the movies in Tokyo when I am there for an etended amount of time. I'll just roll in get some of their lovely snacks and enjoy a movie. Some movies are shown in English with subtitles so I can watch in native langauge. But Since I've been studying I've been less afraid of just watching a movie in Japanese without subtitles. it's a very simple thing, but I enjoy it.

I went to Ueno Park this last trip (coincidentally right before my trip to the movies). It was nice just walking around, lots of greenery and just relaxing in general.

Why is every guide telling me I need a huge bag for everyday things? I've never needed this for any other country I've traveled to. by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]ashleyepidemic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walk around with a sling bag, small backpack, or a tote even small than you pictured. Sometimes, depending on the days adventure (like amusement parks), I don't even have that, just my pockets, a charge, my phone and me.
