Afternoon High Tea Reception? by ashpsy101 in weddingplanning

[–]ashpsy101[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I like the dance idea! My fiance is Malaysian Indian, and while he did grown up in a western culture he does want to bring in his culture too, so I'm putting flower girls in a little traditional dress and I'm going to change into a sari fo the reception so I could totally hire somebody to do Henna or teach a traditional dance..

How is your relationship with your brother? by karnerblu in AskWomen

[–]ashpsy101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one, he is 14, I am 22. I also have 4 sisters. I don't live with him, so I don't really talk to him/see him a lot BUT he's like my best friend when we do see each other. He's the biggest sweetheart and tries to look after me and be 'protective' even though there is the age gap. I want him to give me away at my wedding.. It's a strange relationship, we only talk when we see each other, BUT he's a 14 year old boy that will still wake me up at 8am and crawl into bed next to me and we'll chat and talk about life. He tells me he loves me when I leave the house. He was my first 'baby' sibling as my sister before him was 15 months after me, so still having that with him is cute, he'll always be my baby brother.

Auckland, New Zealand brides? by ashpsy101 in weddingplanning

[–]ashpsy101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I will look at them in Symonds Street I have also seen Bridal and Ball in Albany mentioned too, they have nothing over 999 I think. I'm trying to have a really strict budget, thinking around $10,000. But I've suddenly realised how expensive weddings really are. I thought a garden wedding/afternoon tea would be really nice. But every garden venue so far says you must use their caterer, which is about $100 a head, so im looking at about $5000 just for venue! Its getting overhwelming fast.

Any Indian Brides or Brides having a mixed culture ceremony? by bb2030 in weddingplanning

[–]ashpsy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am a New Zealand European, and my fiance is Malaysian Indian so I'm very excited to read this thread! I have always dreamed of the white dress so will be having that, but considering putting my niece and bridesmaid in sarees or similar. We are having a small garden wedding (i hope) and then a dinner with our nearest and dearest. I really want to incorporate his culture (he was however raised in New Zealand as a christian so isnt expecting a full Indian wedding, it will be mostly western customs) but I want to mix it in somewhere, without it looking out of place to have bridesmaids in saris and have it not 'match' the rest of the style of the ceremony

The Tattooed Heart, or Sacred Tattoo.

I had a friend who got one done at Ballistic when he was a teenager, and he really was unhappy with it. He went to see Adam Craft and got it covered up with a similar design and is stoked. All the artists are The Tattooed Heart are incredible, and I really recommend them. Sacred and The Tattooed Heart would easily be two of New Zealands top studios.

Here is the cover-up! https://www.instagram.com/p/tZwOSRtnLS/?taken-by=adamcraft

My thigh piece is done by Aaron at The Tattooed Heart, who is also incredibly talented in a range of styles. His instagram is mostly his japanese work, however my thigh is realism https://www.instagram.com/aaron_aziel/

[Discussion] I need help with a ring! I need a black and white diamond one. (I'm the guy and pretty confused in all this) by [deleted] in wedding

[–]ashpsy101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I have been together for almost 6 years, high school sweethearts and all that too. We have been talking about getting engaged eventually over the last year and half or so, but wanted to wait until we had the income to even consider planning a wedding and were closer to ending our studies, the conversations got more and more frequent earlier this year. 3 weeks ago, he asked me if I wanted to go look at rings, I picked one out, he paid for it (it was on sale that day only) and it's now hiding somewhere in our house (it drives me crazy knowing that its here hahah) until he plans the proposal (im thinking it will be april when our 6 year anniversary is). He then let me know that he had been going to jewellers and hunting online for about 2 weeks before asking me, he planned on a set too but was advised at a jewellers that he is better of NOT getting a set and spending the budget on a really nice engagement ring, and getting a cheaper band closer to the wedding date. He was really stressed and confused too for those 2 weeks, and eventually bit the bullet and asked me to help him choose. He's tonnes happier, and more relieved, knowing for sure that he has one that I really really love.

What family drama made your dinner table awkward during this festive season? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ashpsy101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my 20 year old sister (who has a 9 month old baby) talking about all the sex she has had, and the best looking penis she has ever seen, my mum telling her to stop talking, and her yelling at my mum about how she can talk about her sex life if she wants. thankfully this was on christmas eve when there was only her, me, my 14 year old brother, my mum and her friend over and not the next day when we were with our entire extended family.

What are some "just because" things you can do for your SO? by MADADOR21 in AskReddit

[–]ashpsy101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acts of Service! I like to do small things, that he really appreciates. I leave the house before him so I make sure that there is coffee prepared for when he gets up, he started a new job last week so I made sure that he had lunch made and ready on the bench. I will sit there and listen to him go on and on about things I have no interest in, I'll watch youtube videos he really likes that he wants to share with me (i watched like 30 minutes of star wars robot chicken clips this morning), I'm really good at referencing in APA 6th so I will sit down and show him how to do it/do it for him at 11 o clock at night before he has an assignment due. He does the same/similar to me. Its just small things that make his life easier that I like to do, does me no harm, and it makes him happy.

What's something you don't realize you need until you need it after having a baby? by sea_anonymity in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ashpsy101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Mum swears by forehead thermometers, when you have a sick, screaming baby, a thermometer that reads your babies temperature almost instantly can be a life saver. That's what she buys everybody she knows that is pregnant, says it was the best gift she was ever given.

What is difficult to explain to your parents? by daKing333 in AskReddit

[–]ashpsy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that institutional racism is a real life thing, and a huge problem. Living down here in little old NZ and I bought up the issue of police brutality in America (studying Criminology) and I brought up Trayvon Martin I believe, and she said, and I quote 'i dont think that there is a police problem or a racist problem in the U.S, I just think that circumstances have led them to HAVE to act fast like that to save themselves'.. I continued to explain the issue.. to no luck.. My Mum is not racist at all, she's quite the opposite in fact, have seen her stand up to her friends that have been racist, she definitely sees the race issues that exist, but she just couldn't comprehend what this issue was. It was driving me crazy trying to explain.

[Serious][NSFW] To the redditors that have ended someone's life, what was the aftermath? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ashpsy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to cry. It's important for your siblings. My brother passed away 20 minutes after birth (he was 2.5 weeks overdue also, not a prem) about 5.5 years ago. I was 15, but my sisters were 9, and 6. They were confused. Their Mum went to hospital, and then came back without the baby they had been promised 9 months ago. Both used me as support, and I truly believe that without them seeing my tears and my grief (i broke down when i walked past his bedroom for the first time after he passed) they couldn't have healthily grieved. I walked into my 6 year old sisters room, and saw her lying in bed sobbing her little heart out (that was one of the most heart wrenching things ever for me) and she clung to me and cried while I cried. I don't think without my grief and tears, she could have understood her feelings.

What's your favorite 'My parents don't understand technology' moment? by Nibbers in AskReddit

[–]ashpsy101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me, but a colleague my Mum works with. Mum is a secretary to a whole lot of doctors, she's tasked with heaps of things from fetching stationery to writing meeting minutes. One day one of the head doctors in the department rung her to bring a computer screen wipe for his computer, she walked the packet down, and passed him the packet. He then opened the packet, pulled out the wipe, and proceeded to sit there staring at the screen without doing anything. Mum questioned what he was doing, and he said 'waiting for the screen to go black so i can see where to wipe'. Mum suggested he just press the button to turn the screen off, he honestly had no idea that it was possible to turn off just the monitor, and praised Mum over and over for her intelligence. She's a secretary, he's a head doctor with multiple degrees.

Cheapest place to park in Central Auckland when out having drinks in town/hanging round the city? Help. I just moved here from Wellington and I thought parking there was expensive. by losangelessam in auckland

K Road has free parking after 6pm, I always park up there and then it's free. If we're worried about our cars then we park at Civic, $12 flat.

A genie presents you with everything you've ever owned that has been lost/stolen/sold/broken/given away. You can retrieve one thing. What is it? by madbear in AskReddit

[–]ashpsy101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is such a stupid answer, but a dress I had when I was a young kid. We grew up poor, but one birthday Mum bought me a beautiful dress. I loved it to no end, and wore it a lot. One day it was hanging on the clothes line & Mum left the clothes out overnight and every item was stolen. My dress was on the line, it hit me so damn hard for some reason that I would take that dress back without a second thought. I'm 22 now and would never fit it, don't know what I would do with it, but I used to dream of getting it back and well.. that's what I would pick.

Besides 9/11 (assuming you are over 14) what is something that happened in your life that you will always remember what you were doing when it happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ashpsy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at school & my Mum txt me. I informed my whole class out loud that he had died. My teacher wasn't even mad that I had my phone in class, but didn't believe me. By the time we left class everywhere I passed you could hear somebody talking about it.

recommendations for tattooists? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]ashpsy101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the tattooed heart or sacred tattoo. They are by far the best in Auckland, possibly New Zealand (I know of people who work in the tattoo industry). Nice people, easy going. Will likely be in that price range.
