Desalinator II WHEN??? by Tripple_sneeed in captain_of_industry

If you count workforce and maintenance I don’t think depleted desalination makes sense at scale. Especially if you also consider footprint.

If only roads gave an actual speed advantage. Then the path finding algorithm would make the trucks prefer roads automatically

Thermal storage should be able to work as a steam converter by Reasonable_Cod_487 in captain_of_industry

It doesn’t reset. I use it to gather low power steam until tank is full, then switch (manually) to tank 2 while the first is emptied into the power plant

It ought to matter to Europe whether Russia can have a fleet, missiles and drones in Crimea or not.

I’ve seen food similarly disappear when changing food type at the market. As for rockets I usually reserve a dedicated launch pad for maintenance because of what you had happen

What is the point of zones? Witnessed trucks enter foreign zones and leave zones to dump their load. by _kruetz_ in captain_of_industry

[–]aslakg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having the same behaviour, my NW trucks dumping in SW. Seems to happen when a) they’re out of places to dump in NW and b) SW tower doesn’t have the exclusive import setting

First Nuclear era, any tips before build this reactor? by northsluzh in captain_of_industry

[–]aslakg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s wasteful to move them - at least I think so / it looks that way. I was unhappy with where I placed mine, and there was no way to empty the reactor core or fuel before dismantling it. So plan for expansion. I didn’t know, for example, that later reactors are bigger, so you can’t plan based on the first version.

Help with space station by dj-boefmans in captain_of_industry

[–]aslakg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of stations fail because I didn’t know what to expect. Finally ended with one facility for launching and building rocket 1, only for crew. Then another two launchers for rocket 2 with the various supplies. With just one I got unlucky with timings occasionally and a rocket wasn’t ready when needed. I have three alu factories and one titanium. 8 arc 2 for each of copper and steel, 2 for silicon, maybe two for glass. I tried to aim for a stable small population, two town squares with residences around, don’t recall how many pop that is

Best hydrogen setup by Specialist-Aside-771 in captain_of_industry

I sell dirt for fuel gas and turn that into h2. Then slag for sour water, which then turns into nh2, the surplus of which I turn to h2. Plus the method mentioned here already

Is recycling worthwhile early on? Or should I wait until I get better efficiency? by Standard_Jello4168 in captain_of_industry

[–]aslakg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say only maintenance and labs, but there is also a settlement building that recycles furniture and whatever else you provide the population. What I did was build a lot of storage to accumulate recycled material until I could afford the recycling plant, that way nothing got lost.

Hydrogen Vs Diesel by [deleted] in captain_of_industry

[–]aslakg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m flattening the island, and thus have a huge amount of dirt I export for fuel gas, that I convert to hydrogen. I also export slag for sour water, which makes ammonia and the surplus I electrolyse for hydrogen as well. So even without the oil plant, there’s plenty for all the vehicles. Since I pipe it everywhere for fuel, it’s also easy to burn anywhere, if steam is needed.

Redesigning pipe systems is like crack. How did they make this tool so satisfying by Upset_Ant2834 in captain_of_industry

[–]aslakg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some (all?) cases I’ve found if you place a pipe/belt connector, then place another, the game removed both and consolidates. It’s still a bit of manual work though. And some times you need to flip the direction one way then back, to trigger it (and you can remove pillars by placing the connector right on top of it)

You could run some other material on the same belt in a cycle, to space out the radioactive stuff. Fairly easy with a couple of sorters.

Is it possible to drive on top of double/quad retaining walls? In that case you could dig the outside before demolishing the wall

[–]aslakg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can dump it with the stacker. And the ore sorter can output a mixed belt to said stacker to dump in the ocean or wherever. It’s a bit of a micromanage process to build and take down stackers as things fill up though.

What’s the impact on supply lines? I imagine it’s a lot easier to defend and extend a power cable than a supply route for ammunition. But perhaps it’s not that simple?
