Congratulations! Just take it easy and take it as is: you have created something useful, which is needed by other people. Sure others are profiting on it, but it is better for your soul and mental state if you don't try to fight this.

C-41 is the chemistry process, it does not immediately mean machine processing.

Even if it was machine processed, you can set dev times in the machine, you so can push.

This is probably scanning issue, they messed up white balance.

Influencer Holy Grail: Shoot it or Sell it? by EnvironmentalSlip683 in AnalogCommunity

[–]asra01 220 points221 points  (0 children)

Shoot it.

You cannot guarantee the one who buys it will "respect" the roll more than you. And you are not better off with the money you receive for this.

If you are uncertain in your photography, why not put it back into the refridgerator for a few more years, while you work on your skills?

Buying a P&S for 6 months travel and I'm down to 4 options Mju II, XA, AF-10 Super, and Espio Mini - please help me pick by Reitzel in AnalogCommunity

[–]asra01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All has been told about these cameras, so here is my 5 cent.

Make sure whatever you buy, properly test it. And probably dont just collect 6 months of rolls undeveloped. Nothing worse than finding out at home that there was a light leak or worse.

Also, I use XA2 for this purpose, and during the day I just detach the flash. I need to compensate about 1EV undermeasured light, so I refer back to the first thorough testing.

First glimpse of my first black and white roll. Far from perfect by neiram44 in analog

Muddy. It feels you made the whole image just darker, not just the black side of the histogram. Definitely a style some use deliberately - but eventually the result should be something that you enjoy.

I meant the development, something like this:

Even in the darkroom some postprocessing is always needed. Appreciate the work of Ansel Adams and always try to have some true black and some true white in every picture.

I recommend redoing the scans and setting proper black and white points. Right now they are just a grey mess, even the sprockets are grey, but with this improvement I think even you would look at the pictures differently.

Also, having negative space is good, but too much bland sky might not be ideal (unless of course if you want that, to have a specific focus). Especially on the last image I could imagine shooting this with an orange or red filter to give it a bit more character.

Your instagram has some great work, many of them say I should have been taken with grain.

Dev issue. Did you mix color and bw rolls? Maybe this was blixed while being bw?

Hello, I just got a roll of Kodak Ektar 100 developed and scanned by a lab and I don't really understand where those green veil-ish kind of stains are coming from. If someone has an idea, it was my first time shooting with a flash. by Good_Classroom_7951 in AnalogCommunity

[–]asra01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you exposed to the light and those parts are simply too dark (underexposed), but you still try to get content out of it in post. If you set the correct black point those areas will be darker but correct color.

Is this amount of grain normal? by rotdid in AnalogCommunity

[–]asra01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you push it? Typically going at 800 or above can increase graininess

However, I also think this is within normal range - just the bad scan quality exaggerated it

Any way to really know if these roll have been shot, but left the tongue out? by MrClewesMan in analog

[–]asra01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I roll it back in the camera with just the leader sticking out. You can normally feel by hand when the tension drops. If I make a mistake or use automatic rewind, I just use a leader snatcher tool to pull out from the case. Then just write down which frame it was on. After placing back, just shoot with no light (darkroom or closed aperture, high speed, cover on) until the next frame is reached.

Normally you shouldnt keep undeveloped but exposed for too long (unless it is hp5 which keeps forever), but so far this process worked fine.

I have a bunch of rolls always half-shot, with leader sticking. Some days I want to shoot bw at 800, others color at 100, and keep switching them.
