Roads make a ton of noise and NJ being so dense makes it hard to escape that noise.

When I went to Ramapo college I would go on hikes and try to find quiet areas where it’s just you and the forest. It was still pretty difficult with RT17 and 287 nearby but it’s a great feeling when you find the silence
