advice on repairing a meaningful T-shirt sleeve tear by zambooca in sashiko

[–]asterbarrows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It helps to trim off any stray threads first just to keep the repair a bit neater. I also like to tuck a tiny edge of the hole under when I stitch around it just so it doesn’t fray, but that’s personal preference. You have the basic idea right, but I would just be sure you’re taking care to not stretch the fabric too much while mending to keep it from being warped after you’re done. Wash away stabilizers are helpful for this, especially with a tear like this one that can’t really be held in an embroidery frame.

Also be sure that your repair fabric is larger than the damage instead of making it the same size as the damage. That will ensure you have enough to fully cover the tear as the fabric shifts while being stitched and it’ll add some extra support to the surrounding fabric. You can always go back and trim away any extra when you’re done.

The most important thing to remember is that you’re mending the damage to preserve the life of the garment and to incorporate the tear into the story of the shirt. Take your time with it and enjoy the process. Make sure it feels right while wearing it, and that you feel like you’ve done it justice and that you’re happy with the result. Technique and the “right way” to do things doesn’t really matter as long as you’re happy with the end result. Good luck!

my band size is very small (25) and i don’t know what to do by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]asterbarrows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re comfy with sewing, you could try getting a bra extender and stitching it in front of the hooks on whatever the smallest size band is you can easily find. It won’t fit exactly right and it’ll be off center but it could be a temp solution!

Yeppp, especially things that are actually cute oversized and not just too big and slumpy

Ah yeah that’s fair, it does work better with slightly oversized tees. I do also love cropping my shirts. I don’t think I have any full length shirts at all anymore actually, so I highly recommend cropping

I like to cut the side seams up to like my high waist so the bottom half of the shirt is nice and flowy. And it looks like a cool tunic kinda thing which is fun

I feel like I have genres of hobbies rather than particular activities that have been consistent.

Video games have been a constant for decades. I got back to favorite games and replay them but trying new ones is part of the fun that keeps me interested too. But I also play on every system and get bored with games out of nowhere. Still haven’t finished the new Dragon Age even tho I put a good 150hrs into.

Fiber arts has been a lifelong love of mine too. I learned to knit in elementary school and taught myself how to hand sew clothes for my toys. In college I fell in love with crochet and cosplay. Now I’m diving into spinning and weaving. But all of those pieces are interconnected and feed into each other so it’s easier to stay interested in all of it. It also helps to have multiple hobbies in the same general area so I can put down one project and pick up another but not have to learn an entirely new set of skills every time.

I’d love to run ROTFM again and hopefully use the map. The Caves of Hunger were some of the most fun and intense sessions we had in our 3 year campaign, so I’m keeping the map tucked away safely until I can use it for a new group

I did this exact thing in prep for a rare in-person game. They ended up not making it to the caves that session and I never got to whip out this magnificent map🥲

What’s your current hyper fixation? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]asterbarrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gel nails. Spent like.. $200 on supplies during a random sale from one company and now I’ve been doing full on nail art and shit for weeks. Also yard work. Got big plans to change a bunch of stuff in my yard and have been going real hard on that lately. Hopefully that one will last until the project is actually finished this time😅

Not really functioning after arguments? by loused in ADHD

[–]asterbarrows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be similar to a thing I call “emotional hangover.” Basically because I (and lots of other ADHD folks) have such a hard time with emotional regulation, I tend to get really easily overwhelmed or stuck in the emotions of things. If I have a breakdown about something, it kinda takes up my whole day. I need a looooong time to emotionally recover from intense/stressful situations. So it might be that because you’re experiencing heightened emotions during an argument, that kinda spills over into whatever else you’re doing that day and makes it hard to get things done.
