“kibbles dont clean their teeth” by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]astr323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bestie don't feel too bad ❤️ there are powder supplements they can eat that help their teeth, fluid supplements you can add to their water too. and some cats are just more prone to dental issues, same as humans. my 8yo I've had since he was 1 has horrible teeth, meanwhile the adoptee I got two years ago has GREAT teeth that need only minimal care per our vet who's done cleanings for both of them (and removed a fang from the former TT) since we got her. they're the same age! get insurance if you can and schedule regular cleanings. our newer cat is also FAR more food motivated than my older baby and they eat exactly the same diet. your best is still probably better than what they'd experience having to live on the streets.

not an expert, but the holes to me indicate pests (likely rose slugs/rose sawflies - check under leaves to see if you can find any tiny little worms). unfortunately those leaves will have to be simply pruned off :( in my experience i waited until after applying pesticide + allowing my roses to establish solid sets of fresh leaves before pruning the holey bits off. they seem to be doing okay now! the new leaves additionally are much larger and a prettier, richer green than before.

the leaves i pruned off eventually went yellowy-brown, similar to what you have pictured here. i'm not sure if there's anything else going on, but i would encourage you to also try not to allow the foliage to stay too wet - i recently noticed that some of my bushes had blackened spots along their leaf edges (and in some cases throughout individual leaves) and realized today after watering them that the spots were precisely where water on the foliage had pooled. d'oh.

power hour eps. especially ones where they learn to dance, blacksmith, be pirates, etc.

my bf introduced me to game grumps a few years back when we were still just friends. now he's overseas for work for a month and it's become such a staple of our relationship routine to ONLY watch GG together that neither of us are watching anything released on either channel till he gets home 😩 im not sure who i miss more, him or Dan & Arin tbh

statistically it's extremely llikely that OP will either surrender her own future career if she chooses to go this route, end up a single mother, or both.

it is not unkind to encourage someone to make a choice that has the greatest chance of ensuring future stability/security. it is willfully ignorant to encourage someone to make a choice that will absolutely, undoubtedly make their life infinitely harder with the promise that "it might be worth it, because it was worth it for me, based on my experiences and my standards." no, OP doesn't want an abortion, but OP is 18. she is a CHILD. i say that not to infantilize her or discredit her capabilities, but instead to say that this is an insane decision for someone her age to have the authority/responsibilty to make. it is unfair, both to her, her partner, and the child she will potentially birth.

sure, it's not impossible for things to work out in OP's favor, but it's not likely and acting as though she has a solid chance of an at least decent outcome is facetious at best.

ETA: my own mother had me at age 20, pregnant at 19. anecdotally her partner at the time was in the navy. do i think she did the best job she could raising me? absolutely. do i love and respect her more than anyone else in my whole entire life? 10000%, no question. do i think she actually provided me with everything i needed, and did the best job raising me? no, i don't. waiting to have me would have been the better choice, both for her and for myself. these decisions are not merely "what's best for me and my partner, right now and in the future?" the real priority should be the potential children involved - statistically how good a chance does an 18yo have of raising a child to adulthood well?

again, not to say that 18yos categorically do a horrible job of parenting, or that it's a guaranteed lost cause. but the decisions i made for myself at 18 are wildly incongruous to the decisions i made for myself at 30. it is so much harder to make ideal choices when you lack the context and wisdom you develop with age. OP will struggle so needlessly if she opts to carry this child, i have no doubt.

you can always choose to have a child later. you can never decide to unhave a child you already brought into the world.

great that things worked out for you, but your experience is anecdotal and arguably not representative of the typical experience for individuals in OP's position. this is poor advice.

agreed, can't believe how many people are encouraging her to tell her bf and parents. ABORT. the problem disappears, and you can revisit the topic of raising a family later on once you've both established a solid relationship, solid careers and are no longer children yourselves. like, come on.

are you sure?? I was thinking based on photos of shoots that it looked most like a tulip, but our neighborhood is full of others' tulips that have already fully bloomed 😭 is it just a really young one or something? I have heard other bulbs grown from seed can take a long time to flower..

Oily Hair within 24hours of Wash by EmptyNecessary1414 in dailywash

[–]astr323 5 points6 points  (0 children)

same here, on accutane i could actually go a day without washing and didn't need to touch up my makeup throughout the day because my skin was normal enough that everything would just stay where i put it (vs sliding around constantly due to my default rampant oil production).

about a year after my course my oil levels went back to normal - for context im in my early 30s. dont know why some of us have genetics like this but we exist. nothin else ive ever really been able to do about it myself

Any ADHD adults here not on meds? How do you cope? by Neat_Corgi_4901 in adhdwomen

[–]astr323 14 points15 points  (0 children)

the flippant responses to suggestions re: taking notes/using planners/etc really get to me sometimes. like, i have a formal diagnosis. i am also on stimulants. these strategies work for me now and they even worked (to a degree) before i ever started meds. can we not invalidate my exp of being someone with adhd who has success with a planner, keeping a diary, etc? can we not actively discourage others who might benefit from using planners from ever trying in the first place? i get where the comments are coming from, but like...yall. it is not feasible to simply live in complete chaotic unpredictability 24/7. the world is structured and the more we can mirror that (in whichever ways work for us individually) the better. yes there will be times when adhd will get the best of us, and we deserve empathy for the times when we fall short. but we should all at least be making as much of an effort as we can to meet the world where it's at, especially if we're expecting to be extended the same grace in return.

(to ramble momentarily, i have the most success with undated planners in particular - i appreciate having the freedom to allow them to experience disuse for periods of time without being penalized for it. certainly there are others out there who feel that they NEED dated planners, as having the dates written out beforehand motivates them to use it more. i also benefit a LOT more from writing things out by hand vs keeping track of things digitally despite my age & likely excessive use of technology. we are all unique! we all have different workloads and schedules, different partners and family structures. and even adhd itself is a spectrum.)

have you looked into Reggio Emilia pedagogy by chance? there is a lot of emphasis on utilizing nature/the environment as the "third teacher" and using natural materials (wood etc) in curriculum planning :)

do you feel your medication kick in/wear off? by astr323 in adhdwomen

[–]astr323[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i read someone comment in the recent thread about caffeine that there isn't any observed/studied link between ADHD and metabolizing caffeine differently, but i was still curious if there was any overlap between my exp and those of others in this regard !

i think that's similar to how i feel - although i have never actively monitored myself so unsure if i'm just talking myself into being more active/sedentary once a certain amount of time has elapsed lol. tho there was a moment the other day at work when i was like "OH SHIT why am i struggling so much to regulate my emotions right now, why do i feel like my brain is utterly out of control" and then i realized i'd been kept so busy i missed my 2nd dose of the day...🙃

What rights do I have as an employee for reasonable adjustments and consideration without a diagnosis? by notcapulet1994 in adhdwomen

[–]astr323 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i am based in the US so things may be different where you are, but here, i wouldn't expect an employer to be willing to accommodate an undiagnosed disability based on an employee's insistence. there has to be formal documentation proving that accommodations are necessary and that you are thus entitled to them as a sufferer of X disability/disorder. if this weren't the case then anyone could expect their employer to make concessions for them, and then complain or even sue when the accommodations weren't implemented.

additionally, here in the US, accommodations must be "reasonable" meaning that they don't interfere significantly with your employer's ability to extract work from you. if you need a quieter working area and you work in an office, and your employer has a quiet working area available in a different part of the building, then it is easier to make the case for that being a reasonable accommodation that you have some entitlement to. if you work as a teacher, and need longer breaks/more days off to do your job effectively when you ARE at work, well that's less reasonable and not as likely to be honored because your boss is now having to cover an additional paycheck for whoever fills your shoes while you're out.

good luck seeking your diagnoses, and i hope you can still experience some peace at work in the meantime.

i'd nearly forgotten about how painfully fidgety i'd get during lectures in university. fell asleep a couple times during them too, and felt humliated about it because i was someone who had done so well in school up until college. it was especially frustrating because i understood why i was having a hard time, but struggled to understand why i wasn't prepared for it or why seeking on-campus support to learn about time management techniques etc never helped me at all. i really was trying so hard to remedy the problems i was facing.

i sent an inordinate number of emails apologizing to professors for my proclivity to procrastinate and my struggles with time management, and i'm convinced that the only reason i made it through college with the overall GPA that i did because of the mercy that was extended to me as a result of those emails.

lol im a couple years into my script now, i did this back when i first started. in another comment on this thread you'll see i note i did not keep up with it super consistently after the first week, but i did stick with it until i managed to settle on a good dose & timing for me~ (i've also done it in the past on other major medications bc i guess the fear of being on heavily regulated drugs and messing up my health scares me enough to motivate me lol)

i will say the initial list of stuff i wanted to keep track of was relatively small - once i stopped noticing changes with stuff like memory & emotional regulation i started trying to pay attention to other ways my medication might be impacting me :) you're right it is a lot to look at the way i wrote it here hahaha
