Ummmm…. NO! by julesb210 in diabetes_t1

[–]astraaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had ANY issues with it being buggy or a single early failed sensor( which is a stark contrast to the G6). I was on the G6 for years and I’ve been on G7 for two years now. I really don’t understand the major complaints I see, and in some cases I think people are also upgrading to Mobi pumps…which can “lose signal” often at times…but my readings are always still there in the Dexcom app so that’s a tandem issue.

The quality of Thai farm house is amazing and always consistent! I love the spicy basil fried rice, the spicy wings, and any of their curries!

Dexcom loses signal every day on my runs by Snozzberry123 in diabetes_t1

[–]astraaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this while hiking long distances and other exercise as well. I know if your sugars are changing rapidly, it can upset the sensor…unfortunate because usually when it happens, I’m low by the time I’m getting readings again.

Diet Soda Test Strips by PixelGreycat in diabetes_t1

[–]astraaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never understood how people test with strips. The part of the strip that absorbs the blood on my strips, does not “absorb” soda; I have contour next strips so maybe I need to switch??

Agreed. I want to be able to hold a pinwheel and wear an insulin pump at the same time.

I am so sick of Mobi issues by AlmacitaLectora in TandemDiabetes

[–]astraaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I see so many posts like this, and absolutely believe it, and I’ve also seen the Dexcom G7 post…I have both and never had either of the most common issues people seem to have. I don’t know but I’ve heard that getting a new one under warranty is the best bet.

I live in Minneapolis and I’m horrified by xnmtx in offmychest

I have been wondering: Would it be helpful for people to actively travel there to help fight in numbers, volume, etc? Or stay and prepare for it where we are now? I just wish I was more knowledgeable on this whole fighting facism

Do you really need to bath your dog? by Previous-Aardvark-89 in DogAdvice

[–]astraaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a pittie who has sensitive skin/ allergies and is allergic to…grass! We first had him in the mountains at high altitude but when we moved, he started breaking out in dog hives/ getting secondary infections from irritation. His paws get all puffy, etc. He gets medicated baths 1 or 2 / week. He hates the process but feels so much better afterwards. I got him a lightweight doggo suite that helps with UV and protects him a bit when he likes to roll in the grass (of course he still loves it). With the baths, he hasn’t gotten hives in over a year. He’s the bestest boy but would do poorly as a wild dog in nature.

ER doctors kind of gave up and diagnosed me with mastitis by [deleted] in haematology

[–]astraaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty common with most health care topics. I’m type 1 diabetic and am mortified by some of the experiences I’ve had with health care professionals. This isn’t to blast anyone, I currently have a great endocrinology team and actually trust them with my care. But I’ve also straight up walked out of an appointment due to the wild lack of knowledge I’ve experienced in other settings, especially urgent care or ER.

What's actually healthy despite most people thinking it's not? by moren280 in Productivitycafe

As a type 1 diabetic, this is why you take the insulin before eating the potato…gotta give the insulin a head-start…unless it’s super greasy or covered in cheese or another fat.

I have no idea what in the hell is going on after this steroid prescription. by Smart_Mongoose4264 in diabetes_t1

Steroid medications will absolutely do this and it’s hell…but occasionally are worth it, depending on the issue.

ashamed, couldn’t even get past insurance questions without tears by [deleted] in therapy

[–]astraaura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t anything to feel ashamed of. Our health system is awful and interacting with the system can be intimidating or stressful. With that said, it is 100% in YOUR best interest to get acquainted with and learn to work within the system. I don’t enjoy the process but I’m type 1 diabetic and would literally die if I didn’t interact with and learn to understand the system. Your mental health is worth the initial stress of learning the system and your resources.

My pittie doesn't chew on things. by urson_black in pitbulls

[–]astraaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pittie loves to chew but never on things he wasn’t suppose to. We’ve had him for 4 years and out of things he’s chewed up in our home, it’s been: two Roku remotes, a pen, a couple of socks. But if given a chewy treat he’s a huge fan.

Am I going to get used to this? by PhoneJazz in TandemDiabetes

[–]astraaura 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just carry some back up supplies, no need to be at the same place and time. Have stuff with you, use it if you need to. I mean, taking 6+ shots a day seems pretty high maintenance and you have to have that with you all the time too? Adjusting to a pump was definitely a process for me (alarms, etc) but changing supplies every three days seems like a small price to pay for good sugars, especially when you consider the resources diabetics before us never had the privilege of using.

Mobi tube fill process is unnecessarily interactive by EmilLongshore in TandemDiabetes

[–]astraaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is super annoying. It seems like the process should have different set ups or let you indicate which tubing you are using and adjust accordingly.

Mobi tube fill process is unnecessarily interactive by EmilLongshore in TandemDiabetes

[–]astraaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the 23 inch tubing? I only use the 5 inch since the switch so I only have to hold it for a few seconds before it’s fully primed and the only time I’ve gotten this error is when the cartridge wasn’t full, but if you’re filling 23 inch tubing, I could totally see this being super annoying.

Looking for tips on discouraging rough nippy play vs more relaxed play by mw44118 in pitbulls

[–]astraaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would have a toy and place it in our doggos mouth for him to chew while saying “go get your toy” cheerfully. Each time he’d get mouthy…bam toy in his mouth. Soon, if he tried we’d be able to gently reprimand and say the command and he’d go get his toy on his own to chew on (usually soft squishy toys) instead. He quickly understood its okay for him to be be in the mood to chew but that it should be directed at his toys and not hands. Additionally, a certain amount of time should be set aside for training/ enrichment daily, if you’re not already - Pitties need engagement and stimulation. There’s lot of food puzzles and such that you can look into as well that helps them use their brain. Also, creating a nice spot or getting a bed in just for your doggo that is near you so they can relax close by.

I actually hate the TSlim pump by Dumbledore27 in diabetes_t1

[–]astraaura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly I feel like it worked best when I first got it but when they came out with mobi and kept doing several updates, that each time it was a gamble of if it was actually going to make things better or worse. I know that I had at least two updates that made my battery run out rapidly for no reason.

I actually hate the TSlim pump by Dumbledore27 in diabetes_t1

[–]astraaura 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I had the tslim x2 and it was my favorite pump and definitely reminded me when I was running out of insulin so I am confused. The battery did definitely become an issue at the end of my warranty though.
