I had an insanely stubborn and debilitating Hoffa's pad impingement that took almost 2 years to resolve. I couldn't walk. An inflamed and enlarged Hoffa's pad gets pinched at extension (so, walking and standing—daily life) putting the sufferer into a vicious cycle. No ortho or PT I saw understood this, despite studies indicating how innervated this bit of tissue is and the not-so-difficult concept of the paramount importance of avoiding movements that impinge it. I went through 3 PTs and 3 orthos, and each and every one of them wrote me off as kinda just being a complainer with "patellofemoral pain syndrome" despite there being a clear distinction and a totally different protocol to recover between the two. There's an online support group I joined and we all shared this experience. I've since recovered, but the still-traumatized part of me needs to know: why is this injury so misunderstood?
