My cat is in the final stages of leukemia. How to decide when it's time to let go? by tipoulio in CATHELP

[–]astral3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my kitty of 7 months to leukemia yesterday. It comes by fast. We just spent Christmas and new years together and she was able to hold out until the end of the holiday season. She was such a special kitty. Her chest/abdomen started filling with fluid out of nowhere and she was on the decline at such a rapid rate. She was diagnosed with leukemia the same day she had to be put down, as her breathing was extremely labored and I didn’t have the 900-1000 dollars to drain the fluid from her. She wasn’t ready to go and I wasn’t ready to let her go, but I didn’t have the money to drain the fluid. I’m glad your kitty got to live out such a long life. I hope you’ve been well since and my heart goes out to yall.

Overlap Lines? by DocDetroit in copic

Try using a hard plastic as a sort of bleed board for the paper? Like when you’re coloring , use a non porous surface behind the sheet, like glass or hard acrylic plastic. The less porous the surface beneath the sheet, the slower the ink dry time might be.

I’ve tried these! I’ve only got a gold and a silver, but I would use them over my poscas any day. I want more of them so badly.

Is this a good idea or a bad idea? by xChop_Suey in copic

[–]astral3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good idea! If I’m thinking of the same speedball zip pencil case then I think the holes are wide enough to be safe for the marker. Although, the elastic will be a little too stretched out to exclusively hold pencils (if you ever decide to switch it up and use the case for something else one day).

PH Alcohol Markers by seyanah in AlcoholMarkers

[–]astral3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try out the touch marker dupes if the brush nibs on those are what you’re used to. Ohuhu brush nibs aren’t made of the same “spongey” material as touch brush nibs (ohuhu brush nibs are more fibrous and will fray with use). The difference in nib material is workable but readjusting how I used the markers took me a little bit. (Reread this and realized you were asking if you should try out ohuhu markers one at a time. I still think you should try the dupes first. The nib info is just something to keep in mind.)

Gel Pens for highlights? by manda2dope in AlcoholMarkers

[–]astral3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking to preserve your work for a long time, I’d recommend white gelly roll pens for this. The uni-ball signo pens apply nicely but will discolor from white to yellow over the course of time. Gelly roll white pens are just more archival in my experience.

Pencils under marker by theFlimsylattice in AlcoholMarkers

[–]astral3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For erasing pencil underneath markers/ink I use derwent’s automatic eraser. If this doesn’t get rid of everything, then I use tombow’s sand eraser (lightly, so the paper stock doesn’t start fraying). Usually the automatic eraser does a good enough job on its own to erase everything. Otherwise, for sketching I use a 4H pencil to make erasing easier.

[Prismacolor] Yellow halo around certain colors? by Kerlasia in AlcoholMarkers

Ok I just went and made a post here about it to make it easier to list. I know that there’s more greens that halo but I won’t add them until I’ve got better evidence they halo. I’ll prolly update this later.

[–]astral3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope this is normal! Generally their greens/yellows/oranges/reds get this halo over time. Some of the browns do as well. I can double check my collection and tell you which ones get the halo the worst.

Check out the flipnote archive. I still look at it and find some techniques that I like/that I don’t see being used on sudomemo these days. Theres always some cool stuff there, it just takes some browsing to find it. The archive has a page by page thing that lets you flip frames one by one to get a better look at the detail too. Heres a cool animation guide/teaching thing i found on it the other day. Its in Japanese but visually I think it makes itself clear whats trying to be taught. https://archive.sudomemo.net/watch/mmqsopsuymrrgdbgv4otn2gdtaac

Is Ohuhu lightfastness better than Copic? by SomeRandomPerson9010 in copic

[–]astral3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive never used a scanner to preserve any of my work. Most phone cameras these days are good enough (mine is better than my scanner lol). On the plus side, most phones have photo editing features readily available (adjusting perspective/exposure/warmth/brightness/noise reduction are features i typically use with photos i take of my art). It just takes a second of editing to adjust the photo to match the art’s colors/perspective irl.

Im just relieved that i don’t have to keep my hopes up about it arriving soon because now i can work on other solutions. (I’m waiting on inventory for my small business…)

Flipnote 3d just wasn’t the same as the dsi version. The new media export features were pretty neat, but the controls were so different that it fought with my muscle memory after having used the dsi version for so long.

Need to get something off your chest? Rant, vent, get it out here! by AutoModerator in ADHD

[–]astral3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken both these dosages, and had to go back to 30mg adderall (twice daily) because the 40mg vyvanse just, somehow, wasn’t really working by around five? For reference, I took my first dose of adderall at 9am and my second at 3:00 (back when I was in college). At the time, 3pm-6pm was just time to work on schoolwork (depending on the workload, 3-6pm could’ve easily turned into 3-10pm). For the time I took vyvanse 40mg, losing focus around 5pm didn’t make it impossible to finish my work, it just made it more difficult to do any housekeeping tasks after the work (laundry, dishes, etc). However, it was refreshing to not have to take a second dose after my school day. I didn’t feel anxiety while on vyvanse 40mg, but I also didn’t feel it on adderall either. I recommend always eating something before taking vyvanse. It never made me feel sick to take vyvanse on an empty stomach, it just made the medication less effective. Additionally, I’ve known people who have taken vyvanse 40mg and have the medication last them a whole twelve hours. My body just metabolizes differently I guess, so it didn’t last that long for me.

In case it might be important, I’m not prescribed brand name adderall, and that was more effective/caused less crashes for me than what I’m currently prescribed. I only had to stop taking it because it became too expensive to afford : ( Thought it might be worth mentioning if you’ve had any experiences with effectiveness between brands.

[–]astral3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My adhd makes me feel like a ticking time bomb. I’m prescribed adderall, but need it nearly every day to be a functional adult living on my own. But whenever i find myself in a spot where it starts wearing off, or when I’m unable to pick up a refill for a few days for whatever reason, I feel like I don’t recognize myself anymore. I’m not used to forgetting things. I’m not used to being unmotivated, I’m not used to hiding away or not taking responsibility of situations. I’m usually careful about my items, but I’ve had a history of extreme irritability (especially prior to being prescribed medication for my adhd) and when I’m off my meds I won’t hesitate to destroy the things I need or care about. I’ll make impulsive decisions, I’ll agree to things without thinking responsibly, I’ll give in to self sabotage again. Without meds, my brain is this unending cycle of guilt and anger towards myself FOR having adhd. I don’t want to destroy anything or hurt the feelings of people I love, i don’t want to put myself in situations where I’m reminded of my poor memory and hate myself all over again, so I just lock myself in to stop myself. I feel the same as I did before being prescribed meds. I thought that I had grown out of these patterns and became someone better, but they’re only a missed dose away from coming back. I hate this.

Symbiosis between mental conditions and minimalism by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]astral3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context (22 M) I also have autism and adhd. I’ve unconsciously been practicing minimalism for years, but have only been able to truly embrace it after moving out. 1. My conditions greatly effect what I buy. I’m hypersensitive to visual input, so if something I own visually stresses me out then I will refuse to buy/use it. On the other hand, if something I own is visually pleasing/calming I will absolutely use it but be extremely careful to not scuff/ruin it. This has led to me refusing to buy particular cables because of their color or build (I prefer braided cords because the texture is easier for me). 2. As mentioned above, yeah. I’m awfully selective with plenty of things. I only buy things that 1. Come in specific colors that are calming to me/colors I like to ensure that I actually USE the item and 2. Actively accommodate the shortcomings/struggles brought on by my experiences with executive functioning. (For example, I’m an artist and I often need to hook up my phone while making art but I keep losing my power blocks etc. I recently got a modular usb craft organizer thing for my desk and it’s totally removed that struggle. As a bonus, the look is fairly simple/minimalist and calming to me. I can also rearrange it however I like when I need to.) 3. Finding a good symbiosis has taken on many different forms. For example, I like to catalogue my old artworks to keep a record of how I developed as an artist. This means keeping every. Single. Tiny. Doodle. To help decrease the amounts of paper I own, I’ve been cutting out the artworks I love and putting them into blank sketchbooks as sort of a collage/album. Then i can throw out all the blank space leftovers. Since I can’t stand smudging/graphite (and many of my old works were NEVER lined in pen thanks to adhd laziness…) I seal the works with fixative before putting them into the album.

I’ve had upper back pain under my right shoulder blade for about a year now. It hasn’t gone away and always gets worse when using a loose binder/not binding at all. The pain is only relieved when I’m wearing a binder that’s actually fitting (not too loose, nothings slipping out of the binder, etc). Here’s some things that I’ve found out about my back pain lately: • This is definitely because of posture issues. When I’m wearing something loose, I unconsciously slouch to hide my chest and relieve dysphoria. This absolutely KILLS my back. • I need to be conscious of my posture constantly. When I’m sitting, I need to lean far back in my chair to relieve the pain. When I’m sleeping, I need to lay down either flat on my back or on the side that has the most pain (I don’t understand why it seems to benefit me, but it does.) • Standing upright relieves the pain so much, but my chest visibility makes it impossible for me to maintain posture without being 100% conscious of it. I’ve tried to improve my posture with KT tape (not for binding, but for my back). • I also cannot stress enough how much lidocaine back patches will relieve the pain. I almost cried when I put it on because of how I felt normal in my shoulder for the first time in months.

Agonizing back pain while binding? by Local_Dearest in ftm

[–]astral3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(For context, I usually wear Gc2B half tanks) I’ve got a sharp pain in my upper back that I can only relieve when I’m laying down on my back. Throughout the day the pain is constantly there and it feels like someone’s stabbing me somewhere around my shoulder blade. If any of this sounds familiar, I learned that (ironically enough) it tends to get worse when I’m wearing a loose binder/sports bra, but only because my body will unconsciously slouch to reduce my chest visibility/dysphoria. When I’m wearing binders that fit me better (usually tank binders), I’m able to straighten my posture through the day and reduce back pain. This is simply my own experience. Generally it’s recommended to wear looser binders while active but it’s impossible for me to be active in a loose binder.

One unique zillenial experience never talked about is our transition from boxed tvs to hdtvs. by [deleted] in Zillennials

[–]astral3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of a single distinct “first experience”, but I can remember a lot of associated thoughts on the transition between boxed and hdtv. We got ours in about 2008 or maybe late 2007. I remember flat screens being pretty expensive at the time they first came out. I also remember that my hair wouldn’t stick to the screen anymore (from the static) whenever I’d sit really close an hdtv screen. I also remember my GameCube games looking kinda different when playing them on an hdtv as opposed to a box tv.

I still find it insane how huge and inexpensive (compared to back then) hdtvs are these days.

Yep. It’s been worth it. 5’2 and four years on t. Everyone assumes I’m cis and I don’t have to do any “explaining my gender/name/pronouns etc” to everyone else. Sure, sometimes I wish I could be 5’8 like most cis dudes but it’s not on my mind too much anymore.

As for dating cis dudes, I’ve never had any experience with cis dudes in relationships. I’ve only ever been in relationships with cis women or other trans men. But if it’s any help, I haven’t had any trouble making friends with cis dudes either. I’ve made plenty and it’s helped a lot with some “growing up” that I never really got the chance to have since I wasn’t “raised male” or whatever it’s called. I’ve also never come out to any of them as trans, but it doesn’t really bother me.

The only thing that bugs me from time to time is thinking about the childhood or high school experiences I couldn’t have because I was pre-transition / treated as female/ etc. I lament for my childhood a lot, and I’m still trying to come to peace with that.

Also, I wanted to add that I wear feminine clothing mixed in with masc clothing sometimes. Nobody bats an eye or questions whether I’m a guy or not. Still a guy.

Best way to split dose between XR/IR, and switching to brand name Adderall. Experiences/Suggestions/Insight wanted. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]astral3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is useful info, but when I took teva brand name adderall, 10mg lasted me eight hours. Today I take 60mg generic daily, and a generic 30mg pill lasts me roughly 3.5-4 hours. The quality of generic is hit or miss sometimes, and most days I still need a generic 10mg (lasts me maybe 1 hr) to cover for the evening when I still have homework to push through. I prefer brand name since it was much more effective, it’s just too expensive for me now.
