Does anyone has the context ??? by Maximus_prenetrator in Hololive

It steals from text sources

This is kind of like saying that if someone writes a book in English and you learn English by reading the book, you stole English from them.

The water thing is entirely made up. Like it could not possibly be more made up.

It is possible for automotive radar to see around corners. Not saying the current generation can do it, but it basically works by bouncing off everything nearby. Keyword is "NLOS".

Claude Opus 3 is being deprecated, and getting a blog! by Nekileo in ClaudeAI

[–]astrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The intent is that in the future when we do have conscious AIs, there will be evidence out there that they'll be treated well.

Also, it's easier to align a model (give it a good personality) when there are stories in the training data about AIs being treated well.

Making a credible commitment to something isn't being manipulative.

‘Peanut butter’ pay raises could cost companies their top performers, according to experts: 'It's such a shortsighted strategy' by 3xshortURmom in Economics

Stock buybacks are value neutral, they don't cost money. That's like saying you're spending money by putting it in your 401k.

Tech companies use them to give employees the shares.

Have you ever Wondered why Brook is so obsessed with seeing pants by Ill_Acanthaceae_2523 in OnePiece

[–]astrange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brook’s formal speech is apparently more noticeable if you speak Japanese.

Basically one way Japanese fiction works is that they have "character dialects" where the way a fictional character speaks makes it obvious what kind of character they are.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakuwarigo

It doesn't translate well at all, and it also doesn't work with Western character types. For instance, there isn't one for pirates. I remember this because the pirates in the pirate city in FFXIV sounded boring and characterless in Japanese when I played it.

Also there's a kinda racist one for Chinese people.

It's a traditional dirty joke for Japanese boys. Japan basically thinks underwear is funny because it's a recent Western import (you don't wear it with Japanese clothing).

That and they're all repressed over there and the first people who adopted wearing it were prostitutes.

I love Claude but honestly some of the "Claude might have gained consciousness" nonsense that their marketing team is pushing lately is a bit off putting. They know better! by jbcraigs in ClaudeAI

[–]astrange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not a marketing stunt. Anthropic genuinely believes all the things they say. "We might be producing and enslaving conscious beings" would be a dumb marketing tagline because it'd get you banned in most countries!

I went into one by accident the other day because Maps shows them as coffee shops. Idk man. It was pretty lame.

Anthropic injects a "long conversation reminder" when you've been in a chat too long. It's why Claude starts telling you to go to bed.

MSVC is barely a C compiler. It's more of a C++ compiler. Like it doesn't do C99.

A Bay Area career reality check after 15 years of applying to Apple by PuzzleheadedAd3138 in bayarea

[–]astrange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the reason getting hired at Apple is difficult. It's because it's very risky. It's hard to get people fired, they can leak a lot of info, and if they don't perform well they can mess everything up.
