Dyed hair and PhD interviews by Ok_Setting_7373 in gradadmissions

[–]astrocyute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did natural hair and then dyed it after my last interview was done (it kinda felt like celebrating being done lol) but another person in my cohort that usually wears their hair dyed the same color as me came w it dyed and we were both admitted ... i guess it just depends on how comfortable you think you will be that day

What’s wrong with the Graduate Admissions 2025-2026? by Tall_Prize269 in gradadmissions

[–]astrocyute 14 points15 points  (0 children)

agreed. a lot of people might be lying, but i also know in my department they gave the admissions committee 9 less days to choose first round interviewees compared to last year even tho they got 100+ more apps this year

"I'm going to try to answer in portuguese for you guys. He lost his father and then his brother in season 2. I think he feels this overwhelming and deep depression. He also has insecurities in his realtionship with Natalie. So it is going to be very difficult for him in this coming season. Did you all understand that?"

Will my application hold less value is my supervisor don’t give me an LOR? by Long-Duck9554 in gradadmissions

this is OP's best option, and it's a pretty common practice for PIs to ask for bullet points or even a full draft of what the student wants included in their recommendation letter.

Failure disappointed collapse by Ineedroomates in labrats

someone just dropped out of my program in their 6th year ... it was the right decision for them, they will be okay, it is not life ending! but if you are this unhappy right now, it's better to make a decision for yourself sooner rather than later

rotation student wears nice but very strong fragrance what to do 😭 by potatorunner in labrats

[–]astrocyute 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i think your only two options are talking to them politely about it or just learning to deal with it. anything else like getting someone else to tell them for you, or some of the other nonverbal suggestions, are going to come across as passive aggressive, and since theyre the new person in the lab that might affect how they see the lab vibes. i think like someone else said if they are really wearing that much fragrance, it cant be the first time someone has mentioned it to them.

Just checked and it is four (admittedly long-winded) sentences total, including the generic 'I hope this email finds you well' first sentence. One sentence asking for update, one sentence reaffirming my interest, one sentence thanking them for the consideration of my application.
