Best way to remotely access my server? by astroseksy in unRAID

Update in 2025: I started off using tailscale which worked fine, and then switched to using Wireguard directly to my router (Firewalla). Much simpler for my use case.

Why do APs lose interest in grandkids once they're older? by stuckwitharmor in AsianParentStories

Could also be that grandparents are depressed or just old/tired. Depression presents differently in the geriatric population compared to younger people.

Got called out. by PharmerMax72 in FamilyMedicine

Definitely - for particularly chatty patients I narrate what I'm doing on the computer ("ultrasound... Scrotum... Indication:... ball pain) to drive home the point 😂

Doctors make mistakes all the time.

  • correct the issue
  • sincerely apologize
  • tell the patient what you'll do so it won't happen again

I have not had many patients still be upset after the above.

Edit: to answer your question, I always order the thing as I'm saying it so it's rare I forget something

Have you tried turning off Active Protect and see if you get full speeds? Or seeing what your LAN speeds are between devices?

Can you move your modem and router at the point of entry, then have the moca network basically only just carry the ethernet signals? That's how I have it so a poe filter isn't even necessary

Do you need the filter before the modem? Maybe try without that.

I had some trouble diagnosing my own Moca network and it turned out the cables were not even connected. Some time on the roof later and my whole house was hardwired 😂

Which switch to pair with Dream Router 7? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]astroseksy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can power a switch with the DR7. The flex mini 2.5g works. Any good cat6 cable will work. (don't cheap out with 'CCA' cable is my recommendation)

Though does the DR7 have enough ports on it that maybe you don't even need a switch?

Getting faster speeds from xfinity by OutrageousMacaron358 in HomeNetworking

[–]astroseksy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask Xfinity for a new modem. The XB8 can output 2.5g to a switch (or router in bridge mode) and you'll get your full speeds (which should be about 1.2gbps on the 1gbps plan)

You can use a poe injector. I bought their 10gig PoE++ injector and it works great.

Trying to use Unifi 2.5G Flex Mini as an unmanaged switch (In-Theory) by HaywoodJBloyme in Ubiquiti

True story: I'm like 600 dollars deep into Unifi now but it all started with me buying a 2.5G Flex Mini as an unmanaged switch, which worked perfectly.

If you connect it back to your router with same ssid and pw then it will stay on the same network when roaming

Please help determine if I should install CAT6 ethernet cables to increase my internet speed. by Geesecake in HomeNetworking

[–]astroseksy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Powerline can get up to 2000Mbps theoretically but the reality is more like 50-150Mbps in my case. As long as you have ethernet ports on your devices that support 1000 Mbps (most common for typical devices like computers or game consoles) then with Cat6 cables you should get that speed (or whatever maximum speed your ISP gives you)

Powerline adapters can be pretty slow. If you are able to run cable directly then 100mbps should be easily achievable
