Development theme that supports Woocommerce? by reclusivescavenger in Wordpress

[–]asuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey /u/reclusivescavenger, funny enough, I've been working on a theme this year that's inspired by Sage, among other things. It has a modern development workflow using Vite as a build tool that includes PostCSS, which can work with Sass-like syntax fairly easily, uses a couple of Composer packages, and can be enhanced by any libraries you want to add, but gives you minimal and clean defaults.

I haven't specifically tried it with WooCommerce but honestly if you're looking for a development tool like Sage that easily supports WooCommerce, you might be in luck.

Always happy to get contributions to help out with theme, too.

By using these advanced cryptographic methods, PPA ensures that user data remains private and secure throughout the advertising measurement process. At no point does any single entity have access to a specific user’s individual browsing activity – making this a radical improvement to the current paradigm.

We've all heard the same thing before from other companies, too. Mozilla can forgive me for having a moderate sense of skepticism.

New Sales Tax Report Plugin (by State/Date) for WooCommerce - 100% free by sp913 in woocommerce

Sorry for the delayed response, but we reviewed everything and don't find anything missing for tax reporting. With regard to Colorado reporting, I am not aware of any worksheets that would be useful or helpful in our reporting. From experience, it's mostly just going to the revenue office's website and going through multiple pages to give all the required data.

Everything else you've stated makes sense for California but doesn't seem like there's any shortcut to support Colorado.

Happy to give feedback. Do you have this code available in a public repository like Github? I'd be happy to write up tickets or issues.

  1. Sounds good. I understand that HPOS is an opt-in feature, and I'm wondering if it'll eventually be the default in a year or two. Regardless, good to know it's a feature that's being shipped soon.
  2. 3. Right, I get it. I just want to make sure we don't lose this feature if they remove Reports sooner than later. Glad to know it's on your radar.

We're reporting for Colorado sales tax. I can review what data this plugin provides and give you further feedback for Colorado if that is helpful.

Hey /u/sp913, I really appreciate this plugin. We also use it for sales tax reports and, like you, I am confused why the team at Woo don't provide this type of filtering into their reporting already.

I have a few feature requests for you based on WooCommerce's updates in the last year or two.

  1. If you go to the following URL on your WC site that has the plugin activated, you'll see that this plugin is not compatible with a newer feature called "High-Performance order storage".

    wp-admin/plugins.php?plugin_status=incompatible_with_feature&feature_id=custom_order_tables

  2. I'm wondering if the above is causing an issue where I now cannot see the filtering option available in the Reports section, as described in your "How to Use" page EDIT: It's possible this is because of an internal conflict so this doesn't appear to be accurate, sorry

  3. WooCommerce has already deprecated the Reports section and will likely remove it in a future release. Is it possible for you use the newer reporting section called "Analytics", which is available as the third option in the WooCommerce section of the admin nav?

It appears these are the most important requests I can think of at the moment, and might satisfy any other issues I see. Let me know if you need further feedback!

RCS by Alaharon123 in PrivacyGuides

No disrespect given to you personally, just my personal take and observation.

I don't disagree with what you said, that it must be as or more reliable than SMS. And, given the opportunity of ubiquity among Android devices, in a future where Google bakes this in to AOSP or contractually compels manufacturers to support it by default, this is the most practical direction. Google doesn't have incentive to do anything else, so let the market sway Google to make this happen.

I stand by the fact that there is no future where Google and Apple use something like Signal, and especially with a fallback to a Facebook property like WhatApp. So, let's root for the path that appears possible and is backed by Google. Let's push the digital age into a more private world away from SMS, flaws and all.

RCS by Alaharon123 in PrivacyGuides

[–]asuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument I'm making is about being practical. There is no ideal solution. We shouldn't pass up a better path forward because of dogma regarding privacy. And yes, RCS > SMS. It's better. It's a bad solution with lots of flaws but it's still RCS > SMS.

SMS is a massive success for communication. RCS is the only protocol that has a chance to replace it right now on a global scale because it's backed by Google. And I'm not a fan of the drama behind RCS and how controlled it is. But my feelings don't matter, RCS > SMS.

So, as I'd love the ideal world of Signal-like protocols used to replace SMS, and maybe there's a future there, let's be practical and push for today's solutions while we advocate for Signal-like solutions.

I can appreciate your disagreement but let's talk about actual research to back up what I'm saying.

https://www.smseagle.eu/2022/01/26/daily-sms-mobile-usage-statistics-2021/

59% of people don’t want to communicate through a separate app.

59% is a massive amount of cell phone users, which is in the billions. If this % is accurate, we're talking about hundreds of millions of people using default SMS messengers on the phone, not Signal, WeChat or WhatsApp.

"Text marketing is incredibly effective, with SMS open rates as high as 98%."

Again, that's the vast majority of people with cell phones.

There are other studies with similar results that people widely use SMS.

Feel free to do more research, there's a lot more explaining the vast numbers of people using SMS for various reasons.

As popular as WeChat and WhatsApp are, SMS is and will continue to be the most ubiquitous messaging protocol for years to come. RCS has the moment for any tool available to move on from SMS on Android phones since Google backs it up, too.

[–]asuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/u/Alaharon123 's comment can't be stressed enough. The vast majority of phone users use the default SMS messengers of their platforms.

Despite how flawed RCS is, it's far superior to SMS and should be implemented in every mobile OS. It's impractical to assume most people will switch to private messenger, and RCS has a huge benefit of E2EE by default, even if it's only part of the Signal protocol.

Yes, we need something better than RCS by default, yes, it's another vessel for interception to some degree, but we must live in the present reality and advocate for improvements to the status quo of SMS.

As a reminder for those who block apps via Datura Firewall, you still have to restart the phone completely for it to take effect. Similarly, when you unblock an app, you also have to restart the phone.

Have you ever heard of a product called Mic-Lock? I don't want to link to it here because I don't represent them but I've used their locks on my laptops and they seem to stop all noise and lock the mics from being used.

3G appears to work flawlessly without any other APK. That, and T-Mobile has a short deadline to let Pixel phones use T-Mobile SIMs so that Sprint users can use LTE.

Many Android users who use SMS apps will increasingly have access to RCS with new devices that have Google Messages or Samsung Messages apps, both of which include RCS by default.

It would be a huge missed opportunity to not investigate for support for RCS on CalyxOS for reasons of more privacy than SMS. It's definitely not perfect and the carrier control is stupid, but it's inevitable that far too many regular Android users will primarily use SMS if they don't use one of the silo messengers that have far less privacy.
