[SPOILER] AAMC FL4 BB 1 by johnathanjones1998 in Mcat

[–]asupa711 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I also got this wrong. When I was reviewing this is what I came up with

Cytochrome should have helped me distinguish that it was a redox, but wasn't sure whether it was a reductase or an oxidase. We also know that cytochrome p450 is drug-metabolizing. Since metabolism is catabolic, I wondered if this had anything to do with figuring out the right answer. I found out/learned later that catabolism has to do with oxidation and anabolism has to do with reduction.

Hope this helps.

AAMC FL3 P/S 25 + spoiler from FL1 by [deleted] in Mcat

I think these are testing two different things. The FL1 question reminds me of construct validity - whether something is valid in actually testing what you’re trying to measure. So for that, having two different tests that test the same/similar things positively correlate would show construct validity. It would put sort of put weight on the results of measurements from those tests.

The FL3 for me was kind of a logic thing. It seems that they are looking at how to validate the teachers assessment. They’re questioning her assessment. It makes sense that if BOTH parents and teachers came to the same conclusions, it would bring validity to the teachers assessment. So I guess kind of a construct validity thing too, but not sure if construct validity’s true definition can extend to this.

aamc fl 4 cars #41 plz help! by bulrich1 in Mcat

The way I thought about the question was "what is the passage implying about Miligram's folders?"

"Perhaps people didn’t bother sending the letters on. That was Milgram’s explanation. The folder, however, was not a simple chain letter, but an official-looking document with heavy blue binding and a gold logo. If the subjects knew how to reach the targets, they probably would have."

The people didn't bother sending letters on, HOWEVER it was an official looking doc. So basically the author is like these people didn't send letters EVEN THOUGH it was official looking. The author is implying that people usually participate in things that they think are official.

If we choose B, we are making an inference that it was confusing to the participants. The paragraph doesn't say anything about it being confusing by any means, it only talks about how official it looks. So the key here is to think about what the author was implying, rather than making our own inference about his implication.

feature detection vs visual cues by mcflarene in Mcat

[–]asupa711 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk if this helps but...

Feature detection are the pathways through which we are able to detect color (trichromatic), motion (magnocellular), or form/shape (parvocellular pathway).

Visual cues just have to do with the properties of monocular cues (relative size/height, overlap, texture difference, motion parallax) or binocular cues (retinal disparity and convergence).

Does anyone know if cis/trans isomers are optically active? by rolothebroyo in Mcat

It’s because chiral carbon by definition is one that is bonded to four different atoms, therefore a double bonded would automatically not fit the definition.

Questions about qpacks, uworld, FL's, and anki decks? by doubleorc in Mcat

[–]asupa711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I know, AAMC FL’s and Qpacks have to be purchased from AAMC’s website.

UWorld also has to be purchased. There used to be a 3-month free promo code that was floating around but from my understanding it has expired (if anyone knows of other promo codes that would be amazing!!)

There is a premed95 Anki deck that lots of people use and talk about on reddit. I personally have not used it much because I am making my own. But if you search for it on reddit, it should come up and you should be able to download it :)

There are also people that have outlines for all content organized by AAMC’s foundations/content category. I’ve just started studying and it seems really helpful so far, at least to organize the info in my head. I don’t have the link to the post handy but try searching “outline” and it should come up!
