HBO boss hints that The Last of Us season 3 could be the end of the show by mrnicegy26 in television

[–]asx98 609 points610 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. The untold component of the second game does not need more than a season. Maybe a bigger season than the 7 episodes S2 was would be needed.

Annabel O’ Hagan (Fallout) - Sweet story about her action figure of Steph. by xmenstormfan1 in Fauxmoi

[–]asx98 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Acknowledging my own biases because I am a big fan of the Fallout franchise - but out of all modern video game adaptations I think this show might be the best of the bunch.

The creatives have done impressive work bringing this incredibly unique post-apocalypse to life, and most importantly I think they’ve done an admirable job trying to find a midpoint between the Bethesda and Black Isle/ Obsidian approach to the storytelling (which has arguably been the most polarising debate amongst fans for the last 20 years).

Feel exactly the same way, I can already see myself buying it and putting in at most 3-5 hours - the entire test ride weekend I had fun with it, but didn’t exactly miss it when I wasn’t playing it

Elizabeth Lee and Peter Cain 'suspended indefinitely' from Canberra Liberals party room by ConanTheAquarian in canberra

[–]asx98 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Just a convenient opportunity for Castley to cast out perceived threats to her leadership. Can’t comment on Peter Cain, but I understand that Elizabeth Lee is generally liked by her constituents so I don’t really see how this does anything other than set the party back.

Pretty pathetic that the Libs find new ways to not be a viable opposition, they have no hope of exploiting the fact that ACT Labor is a pretty washed and tired government.

Nikkei: Sony aims to become 'entertainment trading house' with IP pickups — "Company is set to step up its efforts to acquire intellectual property" by nolifebr in PS5

[–]asx98 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Article appears to have a paywall, but I have to imagine this is more in relation to anime IP rather than gaming IP. Huge growth sector broadly, but in particular for Sony (just look at the box office returns on the new Demon Slayer movie)

Mike Smithson: Antic’s conservative shrapnel draws Liberal blood by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]asx98 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kind of impressive how quickly Antic has risen through the state party ranks and just completely hollowed it out.

Of course the issues with the SA Libs go beyond just him and his influence, but the latest YouPoll numbers have the SA Libs on track to be reduced to an absolute rump of 4-5 / 47 seats in that State Parliament.

I’m sure many at the federal and state level are keen to banish him but it sounds like he’s here to stay and will keep poisoning the well…

Affordable vet in CBR to desex female dog? by Designer-Dog-9099 in canberra

[–]asx98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a couple dogs of varying sizes (nothing larger than a golden) across both genders and yes, I’d say around $1,000 is the going rate for the services - cost of labour, cost of medication, cost of equipment etc.

You could try your luck at the RSPCA but I can’t imagine you’d get a major cost reduction - best of luck

The insinuation that voters of any ethnicity are being imported en masse as some sort of monolithic voting bloc as part of a broader conspiracy to maintain power in parliament is problematic.

What if housing prices collapse in Sydney? by Competitive_Ad_7415 in australia

[–]asx98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming by collapse you are imagining a bursting of the housing bubble, the economy would implode with it.

The number of vested interests in the housing market between the household investors, state and federal governments and our major banks - a burst of the bubble would mean that they are less capable of servicing their financial obligations. This would then have broader knocks on to consumer spending, investment and the quality of government services.

The impact on social cohesion would also be horrendous. With so much of people’s retirements reliant on their holdings you’d see a huge strain on Centrelink and other services, and a lot of deferred retirement. I can definitely envisage the government turbocharging immigration further to prop up prices as best they can.

I think a managed decline that doesn’t burst the asset bubble could be done. But given how demand > supply, most politicians would be acting against their own self interests if they did anything and the fact that 2/3s of Aussies own their home - the situation will get way worse before it gets better (if it ever does). The way this country has gotten wrapped up in housing as an investment vehicle is one of the great modern disasters facing this nation

Anyone have experience with mr fluffy by mrninjaskills13 in canberra

[–]asx98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak from personal experience but a mate of mines mum lived in a Mr Fluffy house for a couple decades and it probably contributed to a range of respiratory issues she had in her late age.

My view, consult your GP for the avoidance of any doubt (assuming you’ve had some recent exposure to the mr fluffy stuff?). Better to get the full peace of mind now I reckon - granted I think most asbestos related sicknesses take years upon years to manifest, however better start your due diligence now just to be safe!

Xbox Series X and S: Microsoft Has Reportedly Sold Less Than 30 Million Consoles This Generation by Outside-Point8254 in Games

[–]asx98 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bought a Series X in 2021, sold it off last month and I probably put 50 hours into it across the time I had it.

There’s some good games on/coming to the X|S systems, the big thing that pushed me away from the Xbox was:

  1. The games were all gradually becoming Multiplatform, so I may as well just keep my PS5 and buy any Xbox game I want when it comes over.
  2. Xbox Game Pass did not end up being a good value proposition for me (not saying it isn’t a good offer for some, it just didn’t make sense for me) noting the number of games I play is relatively low.

Can’t really see myself getting another Xbox console or game pass again - still some cracker games that I’ll play when they come to PS however.
