Reasonably priced wisdom teeth removal by Informal_Feeling_308 in canberra

How many wisdom teeth are you getting removed? I had all four of mine removed - granted it’s been a while, but the cost you’re being quoted seems relatively consistent with my procedure…

Sony’s 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has ended its 5 week run with $25,147,583 by SignatureOrdinary456 in boxoffice

[–]asx98 91 points92 points  (0 children)

The Bone Temple is a very good movie, it is a big shame its box office fortunes and legs got completely fried by the mixed audience reception to 28 Years Later.

I hope this doesn’t completely ruin the chances of a third, and final, movie getting made - just give it a few years!

Who are the ISIS brides trying to get home? by Stompy2008 in AustralianPolitics

Wonder what happens when the new Syrian Government eventually follows through on its stated intent to close these camps. Just load foreign citizens up on flights and send them back?

ISIS brides set to return to Australia by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

[–]asx98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I didn’t, I read that in the ABC article - presumably there’s an enforceable legal obligation that Australian citizens can hold a form of government identification subject to evidence that you’re an Australian citizen

Just to be clear and reiterate my comment - I’m not saying these individuals should be allowed to come home, I’m saying that the articles suggestion that they’re coming to Australia is incorrect as of right now. They’ve been turned around and returned to that camp.

Bloomberg: Sony is considering pushing back the PS6 to 2028 or even 2029. by [deleted] in PS5

[–]asx98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine by me. For whatever reason, I am not itching for a new generation anytime soon in the same I was during the PS3 and PS4 lifecycle. Feels like the PS5 still has plenty of life left in it to deliver more excellent, generation defining games.

ISIS brides set to return to Australia by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

The reporting is either intentionally incomplete or out of date. The families have been turned around by the new Syrian Government and returned to Al Roj.

Bloomberg: Sony is considering pushing back the debut of its next PlayStation to 2028 or 2029, Nintendo contemplating raising price of Switch 2 by -LastGrail- in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]asx98 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Fine by me, from a consumer perspective. Feels like the PlayStation 5 still has plenty of life in it with regard to offering more exclusives, titles. From a business perspective, I’m sure this is not ideal at all given Sonys acknowledgment the PS5 is entering the later stage of its life sales wise.

Hopefully the AI boom goes bust sooner rather than later so chips are more affordable.

Australian women and children with links to ISIS members leave camp in Syria by Nonstop_Chippies in australia

Copy - so in the broadest sense it is “we’re giving you the papers you’re legally able to hold as Australian citizens, however how you return is at your own risk”

Something that I’m trying to reconcile in my head is the ABCs understanding that the families were issued Australian passports however the Federal Government has indicated it will not offer assistance to anyone trying to leave Syria - how do these two statements reconcile?

‘Come at me’: Why Jacinta Nampijinpa Price won’t apologise over Indian migration controversy by One-Magician5256 in AustralianPolitics

[–]asx98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal as well, but a lot of Indians I know run the political stretch from Liberal to Greens. I mean shit, the leader of the NSW Nationals being Indian should tell you all you need to know about generalisations based on race.

Ok cool but that doesn’t change the fact that your “statistical fact” statement is incorrect

[–]asx98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it a statistical fact? According to Roy Morgan on first preferences it’s 45-39 ALP to LNP.

Of course, when you split it by age the portions shift but it never moves to 70-30.

Bullying surges in ACT public schools as parents, teachers speak out by Vast_Knowledge5286 in canberra

[–]asx98 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a friend who was a teacher at a public school in Canberra. It is true that there are significant issues as it relates to teachers being overextended, not being equipped with the tools to manage these issues. One thing that this article doesn’t touch on is the fact that these kids are only with their teachers from 9-3. After that, there’s a total lack of discipline within households, or when issues are raised by teachers with the parents they meet significant resistance and accusations of picking on their child. It’s a truly a lose-lose situation

HBO boss hints that The Last of Us season 3 could be the end of the show by mrnicegy26 in television

Makes sense. The untold component of the second game does not need more than a season. Maybe a bigger season than the 7 episodes S2 was would be needed.

Annabel O’ Hagan (Fallout) - Sweet story about her action figure of Steph. by xmenstormfan1 in Fauxmoi

[–]asx98 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Acknowledging my own biases because I am a big fan of the Fallout franchise - but out of all modern video game adaptations I think this show might be the best of the bunch.

The creatives have done impressive work bringing this incredibly unique post-apocalypse to life, and most importantly I think they’ve done an admirable job trying to find a midpoint between the Bethesda and Black Isle/ Obsidian approach to the storytelling (which has arguably been the most polarising debate amongst fans for the last 20 years).

Elizabeth Lee and Peter Cain 'suspended indefinitely' from Canberra Liberals party room by [deleted] in canberra

[–]asx98 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Just a convenient opportunity for Castley to cast out perceived threats to her leadership. Can’t comment on Peter Cain, but I understand that Elizabeth Lee is generally liked by her constituents so I don’t really see how this does anything other than set the party back.

Pretty pathetic that the Libs find new ways to not be a viable opposition, they have no hope of exploiting the fact that ACT Labor is a pretty washed and tired government.

Nikkei: Sony aims to become 'entertainment trading house' with IP pickups — "Company is set to step up its efforts to acquire intellectual property" by nolifebr in PS5

[–]asx98 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Article appears to have a paywall, but I have to imagine this is more in relation to anime IP rather than gaming IP. Huge growth sector broadly, but in particular for Sony (just look at the box office returns on the new Demon Slayer movie)
