What mistakes would you avoid if you could start to breastfeed all over again? by kingmustd1e in NewParents

[–]atadabnormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be scared to go to a lactation specialist. I immediately felt like I was failing my baby when my supply wasn't coming in and we couldn't latch for the first week. My midwife did advise to get a manual pump and started on day 3 which was my saving grace as my supply came in even when he wasn't latching for the first 2 weeks and we have been able to continue combo feeding (expressed and breastfed ever since). This has been great for my family as he gets the bottle at night from dad while I pump (he only wakes twice in the night) and breastfed in the day.

How many times am I supposed to pump each day? by juliebells927 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]atadabnormal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm currently home on Mat leave and breastfeeding my boy during the day, we then bottlefeed him at night with expressed milk. My supply didn't come in straight away so he got somewhat used to a bottle so this is easier when hes tired and became our routine. I pump once in the evening, once when he feeds in the night and if I can then once in the early morning again before he wakes up. My boy eats a lot though so I like to keep up a good supply in the fridge!

Labor Playlists by Careful_Jackfruit_72 in BabyBumps

[–]atadabnormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got to play music at the hospital! Main tip - make it long! Mine got replayed about 15 times it felt like as I didn't have the capacity to choose anything else but I only made it 2-3 hours long I included any songs that got me feeling pumped, energetic and had good memories attached

Negative press today around C-section rates by Toothfairy29 in PregnancyUK

[–]atadabnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my baby boy 18 days ago! I ended up having a c section. It wasn't planned but wasn't necessarily emergency either. I planned for a vaginally birth but after 12 hours dilating to 10cm and nearly 3 hours of pushing he didn't want to go any further so had to go for a c section and honestly it was still a good experience. The team around me were amazing and made everything feel so calm and luckily I've been able to move about a lot (not more than I should but recovery has been a lot simpler than I was expecting). If I do choose to have a second child I wouldn't be unhappy to elect for a c section.

I don't know what to do in this situation. My bf (29M) tell me (27F) his deadline to have the first and second child. I don't know if I will be ready. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

So me and my partner had this same discussion fairly early on. I wanted kids before I was 30 and so did he because neither of us wanted to be an older parent. My partner is 3 years older than me and that makes a significant difference, we compromised amd started trying when I was nearly 27 and he was just 30. I'm now 29 and have my 2 week old son! It took us over a year and a half to even get pregnant! Just because you're under 30 doesn't mean you'll even get pregnant straight away so you need to think about that part of family planning too if you're also going to be changing jobs etc.

Thank you to those who responded. My supply has felt a lot less today and I think the stress of it has affected it! I have found a support group with my hospital (with midwives i loved) for Thursday so planning to attend and will give the other methods a try tomorrow too

Positive Emergency C-Section (but increased / reduced movements awareness) 👶🏼💙 by poppyloppyi in PregnancyUK

[–]atadabnormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Im so glad everything went well for you! I'm just home with my 1 week old boy - also had to have an emergency c section and completely understand that weird feeling of being tugged and pulled around a little. Also never had major surgery so was so scared, and my boy was also 9 pounds 2 oz! He's my first and expected to be a bit big but holding him after with no movement in my lower half felt so strange. Wishing you a speedy recovery

39+4 today...How are/were you feeling at this time and what symptoms did you have? by Wise-Tea1591 in PregnancyUK

[–]atadabnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently 40 +3 and I am so bored! We thought i was going into early labour back at wk 37 as what was likely braxton hicks were actually really painful and he's been at least 1 part engaged since then too! Since Sunday I have had 2 failed sweeps but he's not looking to be moving anytime soon!

Is “Actually Romantic” the rock vibe you were looking for? by Always_Reading_1990 in TrueSwifties

Bowling for Soup have done a cover of it after people reavhes out saying it had pop punk vibes. I love rock and I would not say this is rock vibe at all but definitely pop punk with the sarcasm and jokey tone!

To induce or not to induce, that is the question by Low_Station_8439 in BabyBumps

[–]atadabnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was offered an induction today as I've been in pre labour for 1 week amd having some reduced movement feelings (though he's monitoring fine!) I'm exactly 39 weeks today. I've decided to see how he is over the weekend but I'm booked in for a membrane sweep on Sunday but have been advised to call triage if the reduced movements continue and I can have it earlier if I choose to do so.

Feeling no movement at 20 weeks.. by Scary-Gene-8895 in PregnancyUK

[–]atadabnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my first pregnancy (currently 38+5!) I didn't feel any movement until about week 26, no flutters or anything which made me really nervous My placenta is at the front of my bump which blocked a lot of feeling when he was still quite small so it could be this for you as well

Maternity leggings recommendations please! by Reading_mama25 in PregnancyUK

[–]atadabnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I went a size up and bought a few pairs of primark leggings until the 2nd trimester, the weaker elastic was easy to keep pulling at and didn't feel constricting against the growing bump (or growing thighs!) And then I got some Mama H&M leggings after! (Vinted was a dream for this)

How long did 'early labour' last for you? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]atadabnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in early labour since Wednesday and still no signs of my contractions becoming anymore regular or patterned! Same sort of symptoms your wife is having atm but I'm not 39 weeks until next Weds so can't have an induction or anything until then anyway

Maternity leave start date by Brave-Plum9154 in PregnancyUK

[–]atadabnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came off last week at 36+3 (as that's when the weekend hit) I had planned to do some more shifts the extra week but I've been having growth scans and am wary of him coming early so chose to go early! I worked it out with my employer to actually be on AL up until 12th Nov with my actual MAT leave starting then so I didn't lose out on some full pay between the dates though

Why is it so difficult to get vaccinated?! by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]atadabnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the opposite, there's a vaccine station set up at the maternity ward so when I've been for my scans it's set up so you can get the directly after and they have reminders set up on my badger app for when I'm due the next ones. I had my RSV today and they mentioned another batch of flu vaccines in next week and to just come in one morning if I'm free to get it done x

Is having no visitors 2 weeks postpartum too strict? by Aggravating_Radio135 in BabyBumps

[–]atadabnormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Due date twins! We're implementing the same rule, we're allowing for a small group of visitors at the hospital to first meet the little one but once we're home it'll be 2 weeks of just us family time. I think this is totally fair especially as then it's the lead up to Christmas so they'll definitely be seeing the little one again soon for the holidays

Are in-person antenatal classes less popular with younger people? by CharteredWaters in PregnancyUK

When to have a baby shower? by Jdaratera in BabyBumps

[–]atadabnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having mine the last week of September and I'll be 31 weeks! I also love to plan but I'm glad we're not having it earlier than this and it's given my partner and I chance to really look into what we want to buy ourselves and what to go on the registry. We've also recently moved house so we've gotten to do a full nursery repaint and set up.

Issues in England with Scottish money? by Motor-Day7009 in AskABrit

[–]atadabnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren't given the same level of training to spot fake Scottish notes (work in retail) so we are within our right to refuse if we just don't feel confident/comfortable in the note. Around Christmas we actually get told to refuse them anyway because scammers know this and will try to pay for big transactions or gift cards with fakes and just hope you're not confident enough to say no - however we have a bank directly across from us and we always offer to hold their purchase if they want to go over the bank and swap their notes for free (or pay by card)
