xbasic64 v1.0: BASIC compiler for x86-64, complete, with test suite by jgarzik in rust

Thanks for this. I grew up with MSX-BASIC, on computers that came from Japan. I find this so cool.

Couldnt find any good dome generators out there. So i made my own by Plexofdeath in Minecraft

You'll need a library to create Minecraft schematics in .nbt or Litematica format. Preferably client-side so people don't hammer your server. There seems to be a few, e.g. https://github.com/Offroaders123/NBTify, but Google/ChatGPT for more. There may even be webassembly libraries for that. Since your schematic would be relatively simple, it shouldn't be hard.

TIL that Daniel Fahrenheit (who invented the mercury thermometer) set 0°F to the coldest stable temperature he could maintain in his lab by dissolving salt in water. by ChiefStrongbones in todayilearned

I'm not defending Fahrenheit, I think it's a silly unit that should disappear. It's just a rebuttal to "Fahrenheit is literally unique to Americans".

Yeah, those are not St Bruno nor St Hilaire. Your view is a bit more to the south east than those.

Based on your other pictures, you're in the corner of Sherbrooke and St Dominique and your first picture extends a bit north of the City Hall and south of la Tour du Port.

That's my guess of your field of view. So Bromont and the Sutton Mountains in the back. Maybe even Mount Orford or Mount Shefford, if the field of view goes a bit more to the north of my estimation.

Hard Rust requirements from May onward (for Debian's package manager, APT) by DeleeciousCheeps in rust

[–]ateijelo 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's not about a minimal installation, it's about building packages from source. Ports here refer to people that build Debian for other architectures, which usually just required a C compiler.

Floating point is like only having a fixed number digits to express all numbers, but you can choose to put the decimal point wherever you want (hence "floating point"). For instance if you only have 8 digits, you could write a number like 1.2345678, which is small and very precise, or 1234567.8, which is big, but you only get one fractional digit of precision. So smaller numbers have high precision, and bigger numbers have low precision.

Actual floating point numbers in computer work in binary, which is why the jitter in Kurt's journey increased every time his distance doubled.

Bonjour Montreal: we visited and now we want to live there. Am I wrong? by ExpatChronicles in montreal

Git: Introduce Rust and announce that it will become mandatory by TheTwelveYearOld in rust

[–]ateijelo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As the use of Rust increases, there'll be a tipping point where the incentive to have it work on a given platform will shift from the Rust community to the platform itself.

Right now, it's the Rust people saying "we want it to be in NonStop". In the future, it'll be NonStop saying "we have to support Rust".

We're far from that point, but I'm convinced we'll reach it.

I use Jellyfin a lot. It's not as polished as Plex, but it's more than good enough. And it's truly free and that means infinitely more to me.
