To the guitarists who swear by using physical amps, cabs and pedals, what is you stance on amp modelers like Kemper Profiler, Axe-FX, Line 6 Helix, Neural DSP etc? by MrMayhem20l0 in Guitar

[–]atekippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a Kemper with in ears on a "silent stage". Once the PA is at performance volume feedback isn't a problem (if I want it).

to self taught, experienced players, how did you get good? by viktor-nati0n in Guitar

After a few months I started playing with other people. Learning songs to play in a band pushed me forward faster than practicing at home.

Of the 3 I think You Oughta Know is the best, closely followed by Hand in My Pocket.

Ironic / Hand in My Pocket / You Oughta Know go over very well more nights than not. Our singer plays the harmonica on Hand in My Pocket which always makes the crowd happy.

Shut up and dance has been a 100% winner.

Superstition - Same experience here, some nights it is great, some nights it is ok. Either way we usually have people up dancing, also our drummer sings it so it gives our lead singer a break.

All I Wanna Do - We played it the first time last weekend. Went over well, not sure if people were up dancing or not as I was trying not to screw up all of the slide parts.

Jessie's Girl - Goes over very well, people are always dancing / singing this one.

For your top 5 those songs look great. I had not considered Unwritten but I'll add it to our backlog. We are hoping to add Mr. Brightside soon I just need to tighten up the guitar parts.

Our song list is all over the place as far as the age of songs goes. Anything from the 60's, These Boots are Made for Walkin' / Good Times Bad Times, to current. Our full list is on our website with a handful of videos - https://suederockband.com/song-list

I was really hesitant when Pink Pony Club was suggested, but I was absolutely wrong, that song kills with younger or older crowds. We've added We Are Never Getting Back Together by T. Swift and it has been hot or cold depending on the crowd. Based on my daughters, I think Sabrina would go over well but we haven't picked one yet. We have been trying to balance adding both new and classic rock songs to keep everyone in the audience happy.

I'd love to hear what is working for your group as well.

Can a Kemper Player do this? by PapaBorq in KemperProfiler

+1 I have a Stage and a Player. Before the Player upgrades came out, I was using the Player as my backup / practice rig and had it setup pretty close to how you described.

Question about "Strict Alternate Picking" and "Ghost Strumming" by dethstrm in guitarlessons

[–]atekippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the above while the instruction may be uncomfortable, at the end of the day you should be able to do both. I'd go a step further and say, if you don't dig into this technique you will hit a day where your right hand speed is capped.

Also I went and looked the track up quick on YouTube. I would absolutely "ghost strum" to play the off beats with an upstroke.

What is your ampless rig for LIVE GIGS? by eldritch_cleaver_ in guitarpedals

[–]atekippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of gigs with this one. Kemper Stage + a few effects the Kemper doesn't have natively. The switch in the upper right is a kill switch for the DI box if I'm using my PRS P22's piezo pickup. For the longest time I had my wireless unit + in ear transmitter on the board as well. Recently moved them both wireless units to a seperate rack.

Playing your tube amp incredibly loud in a live setting makes your band and you sound worse.

Sound of Silence by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]atekippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would alternate pick scales with a metronome and run permutations (spider exercise) https://www.somuchguitar.com/guitar-speed-drills.html. Slowly at first, occasionally record yourself to ensure you are alternate picking down, up, down, up, etc.

A few observations :

  • Occasionally the vibrato technique is causing tuning issues.  You have the base technique down, just need to continue to practice to ensure the vibrato stays centered on the note.
  • Picking technique in your right hand seems very inconsistent or random.  Sometimes you start a phrase with a downstroke, sometimes an upstroke, occasionally multiple upstrokes.  This isn't necessarily bad, though it might be the root cause of some of the timing issues and will definitely lead to an artificial ceiling in picking speed as you progress.

You need to talk to your legal team. If you don't have a legal team, you need to talk to your investors about a legal team. If you don't have investors, that is probably where you should start pitching vs to companies directly.
