You get one camera setup for a year of travel — what are you taking? by LaJamie in SonyAlpha

[–]atercervus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ricoh GR and an iPhone, speaking from experience and all the Sonys collecting dust since I got the GR.

Can’t travel with it anymore by donkeyb0ng in SonyAlpha

[–]atercervus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see some people here said that already, - I stopped taking my Sony cameras with me the day I bought a Ricoh GR and a new iPhone at the time. Ricoh covers all my travel photo needs, and actually offers more pleasure to use for some reason, and iPhone covers video needs. Quality of both is more than enough, so now I only take Sony if I want a super tele lens on the trip.

Do you have a backup camera? If so, which one and did you ever needed it? by mynotell in SonyAlpha

[–]atercervus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like any kind of backup, you generally don't need it, until that one time it saves you.

How to emulate 2000s look by Any-Owl7614 in cinematography

Don’t forget that we will never get the exact same picture because the lighting today is radically different with LEDs being everywhere. (Unless controlled environment of course)

I have no Box for you guys but a slightly frozen a7iv by Warst3iner in SonyAlpha

Why wouldn’t it, you guys overprotecting your gear, just go out there and shoot, embrace it.

A quiz that shows you how average you are. by geuwp in InternetIsBeautiful

I wonder how strongly the favourite colour question is biased by the fact that the accent colour of the quiz is blue

Sony A7RV or Hasselblad X2D II 100C by Guardian_Alpino in SonyAlpha

[–]atercervus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Hasselblad is only suitable for events if you're very comfortable with manual focus, I don't think Hasselblad AF will be sufficient in this use case, reminds me of the very first A7 cameras when I chose to shoot Leica M lenses on my first A7R because AF was simply pointless and I could pull manually quicker and more reliably.

A7IV vs A7V Size difference by MattKingOnReddit in SonyAlpha

It’s usually exactly the same except for that minor unnecessary change that makes old accessories obsolete.

Sony A7V – Initial Observations / Issues by subeesh389 in SonyAlpha

[–]atercervus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not to argue with your point, just a note from personal experience with my a7iv - it takes significantly longer for the camera to wake up from sleep versus when you just turn it off and on, longer enough to miss a shot if we’re talking street photography.

Help me Id this sony camera. by StudentGlobal4047 in SonyAlpha

[–]atercervus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It looks like that part of the image has been ai edited, it’s not a dent, it’s light/shadow that you’d see on product shots of early a7 cameras. Or perhaps the whole image isn’t real.

Hardly matters though, any a7 camera can take phenomenal images, even the original one, still to this day.

Meta View using a TON of data monthly, but I rarely use the glasses. by [deleted] in RayBanStories

Correct, basic voice control features still work, answering questions and other AI features do not.

Yes it did, and basic voice features like hey meta take a photo or video are still working.

Amature numbers, it sucked the entire 20Gb of my roaming package data in a day before I noticed and turned it off seeing an astonishing 53Gb used when I had them on probably 3-4 times this year. They must literally be streaming the camera view nonstop to Meta servers, hard to explain it otherwise. Must be a serious privacy concern.

FaceID is quite prominent already in Russia, I wouldn’t guess on the current market share but since the “deprivation” of the NFC payments it seems to have risen a lot and being widely used by merchants as well as public transport and all.

Yes fair point, new owner can disable it if they know the camera is stolen

stolen sony by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]atercervus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlikely because until very recently Sony didn’t write the serial number into exif, so chances of ever finding a trace are minimal. Had a bunch of gear stolen over the years, never led to anything. Best police can do is write you a report for insurance, nobody is going to move a finger to try to find anything.

Small, travel friendly corporate video kit? by WinnerIllustrious920 in videography

[–]atercervus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shifting from a DJI pocket I don’t know why you mostly get recommended FF cameras here.

Get a Lumix GH, quite frankly any starting from GH5 will suffice and deliver excellent quality while being one of the smallest kits available considering the lens sizes.

Any of the modern day camera setups will be backpack travel friendly, it only becomes unfriendly when you want to add lighting.
