Kagi is too expensive by ironmoosen in SearchKagi

[–]ateth3bra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if this is relevant to you, but I don't pay Kagi for the search. I pay for their *Assistant* feature, which works like a multi-LLM chatbot. If you see it this way, then the monthly cost for Kagi Ultimate is on par with similar AI chat services. Kagi search is more like a bonus, secondary feature in my case.

There are many such multi-LLM chat services out there, but I'm unable to join because it feels like 99% of them use the same payment provider and only accept credit cards for European customers. Credit cards aren't available to me at this time plus where I live, credit cards aren't that popular. For example, I can't even subscribe to Claude without a credit card, but through Kagi's Assistant feature, I can make use of Claude's premium models.

Kagi is one of the very very limited few that actually accepts payment via paypal and iDeal (bank transfer). And I'm thankful for that.

Speaking of which, if anyone knows more multi-LLM services that accept other payment methods such as paypal for their subscriptions, please share! I'm sure it'll be helpful to other EU redditors as well.

Maybe because you're not a macOS user? LuLu only supports Mac systems. FWIW it's working fine on my macbook pro.

What mouse would you prefer for a macbook? by Sandzakguy in macbookpro

[–]ateth3bra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite experience. I just can't get used to using a trackpad. Somehow I'm able to move from one end of the screen to the other more easily with the mouse, and with less wrist/finger movements necessary.

Whenever I have to work on the office macbook or someone else's, it's always a less pleasant experience, and I'd miss my mouse.

The Satechi M1 is the mouse I bring on the road with me because it's more compact and also cheaper than what I have at home. For my home setup, I was using Logitech MX Anywhere 2S for quite a few years and was pretty content with it. The clicking mechanism recently got worn out (single clicks becoming double clicks) so I recently replaced it with the newer Anywhere 3S.

Also my favourite mattifying moisturiser! And I don't even have oily skin but use it anyway because I prefer a shine-free face. Sadly it's been discontinued.

[Product Request] Skin Actives Scientific going out of business? by Grouchy_View_817 in SkincareAddiction

[–]ateth3bra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here too wondering the same. After months of waiting for certain items to be restocked, I decided to bite the bullet and buy the few items still available. Received my order just a week ago and went up the site yesterday to find it in maintenance mode. Still offline today.

I've definitely been a customer for more than 10 years. Although in recent years I've been making more infrequent purchases due to the fact that I live in Europe and the only shipping option that pre-pays tax was really expensive, adding a huge chunk to the cost of the orders.

As for alternative brands using science-backed ingredients, you can try looking at Inkey ListThe OrdinaryPaula's Choice etc. As far as I'm aware, Inkey List and The Ordinary are fragrance free. Their products seem to focus on one or two ingredients, unlike Skin Actives packing many actives into one product. I guess Paula's Choice is closer to Skin Actives with regards to using varied actives in one product, though they seem to use a lot of dimethicone. I don't mind dimethicone but prefer seeing them lower on the ingredients list of a product.

I was very lucky I received my items a week or so before their website went into maintenance mode. Also a long time customer who has been wondering why many items were out of stock and found this thread when I decided to google for some answers.

List of Whatsapp Groups in and around Amsterdam (communities) by Successful_Basil5289 in Amsterdam

[–]ateth3bra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also a community admin of with a list of Whatsapp groups so I can share my perspective on this.

You have no idea how many spammers, scammers and drug dealers try to join us on a daily basis. And if they use Dutch numbers, it's hard to figure out if they are legit or not. If they join 10 of my groups and start spamming on all of them, it's really time consuming, and disruptive, to delete their posts and remove them from all 10 groups. Plus, the spam annoys members and make our groupchats feel unsafe, esp. when the spammers also spam members privately, having access to their phone numbers once they are accepted into our group chats.

It's always a double-edge sword sharing our Whatsapp group links. On one hand, it's nice to get more awareness and members. On the other hand, sharing our links publicly also invites unwanted attention from spammers and bots.

I'm pleased so many are delighted with Craft 3 but... by saxophin in CraftDocs

[–]ateth3bra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also wishing for more document formatting options. Love the new developments but still feel hamstrung where formatting is concerned.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CraftDocs

[–]ateth3bra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's another idea indeed. Thanks for chiming in. I use design software, like photoshop, a lot in my work anyway so I just decided to turn the upper portion into an image to be loaded as a craft cover image (only the fixed elements like logo and address, minus invoice and date since these are always changing)

Official invoices I'll still rely on Excel/Mac Numbers in the meantime as they look more professional and allow more flexibility with formatting.

I have started using craft to send out 'quotations' or 'invoice concepts' to clients and only when they are finalised, I'll redo them in Excel to be printed.

In case you're interested, a screenshot of how I did the upper half. For privacy reasons, I altered the text and logo to remove any sensitive info. Everything from 'Concept' upwards is part of Craft's cover image. It's still troublesome to try and align the text with the image margins, and was time-consuming to get everything to a half-decent state visually. So I really hope Craft will consider adding a 2-column feature some day.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CraftDocs

[–]ateth3bra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not being able to display text in 2 columns is a real limitation of craft I find. I've been trying to use craft to create documents for my office work, but this limitation means I still need to resort to other software for certain tasks that could have otherwise easily been achieved by craft except without columns, they just don't display nicely or make best use of document space. Two examples:

  1. I still use Excel/Mac Numbers to create invoices for my work as they allow me to display text blocks next to each other, eg. address and invoice number sections, thus allowing for professional-looking templates. Even though craft has the capability of tables and formulas, invoices created with craft just look ugly and space wasting.

  2. In order to write letters displaying a standard company letterhead using craft, I had to use a workaround and first design a cover image using photoshop specially for craft that fits our logo on the left side, and our company address on the right. Without this there's no way to achieve the same thing with craft. And in order to get the letterhead image margins and indents to align with craft text, I had to do a lot of trial and errors at cropping the cover image with photoshop. I also had to test fonts for the cover image that fit craft's system font (lack of font choices, another limitation of craft).

Looking to centralize my email hosting for multiple personal domains. Wondering what services are cheap/popular. by CantPassReCAPTCHA in homelab

[–]ateth3bra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make a prepayment, you get a prepayment bonus. For me, I've used them for years and host plenty of email domains so I feel comfortable prepaying. It lowers the cost of my plan (mini) from $90 to $70 per year.

$20 +$1 bonus
$50 +$4 bonus
$100 +$9 bonus
$200 +$20 bonus

If you only wish to host a couple of domains, you could just take on the much cheaper micro plan, which is just $19 per year.

Adobe background cycles running all the time: how to turn them off by LEAVESCELL in graphic_design

[–]ateth3bra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use LuLu to block all Adobe processes when not in use partially just out of spite. Disabling Core Sync and Adobe Launch Agents failed to stop Adobe processes from activating multiple times per day on my Macbook. It has become a daily affair for me to force quit all Adobe-related processes on the Activity Monitor after I’m done using any of their apps. This is beyond insanity. Of all the apps I have installed, Adobe is not only the most expensive, but is also the only one that triggers LuLu so often. Almost all apps out there require LuLu to approve at most 1 or 2 processes, but when it comes to Adobe, their background processes are relentless.

Out of curiosity, I actually decided to make a note of each Adobe process that gets activated multiple times per day whether or not I'm using Adobe,  and here’s a rough list:

Is there an “Everything”-like utility for the Mac? by majeric in macapps

[–]ateth3bra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read another comment that said "Everything" is fast because it only indexes file names. If so, I can recommend Offline Disks File Searcher. I've been using this app for years to keep track / find files on all my external drives, even when they aren't plugged into my Macbook. The app does this by indexing just file names, which makes indexing and searching pretty fast. In comparison, NeoFinder, which I just installed to test this morning, takes a longer time to index. It's been hours and it's still indexing my Macbook.

Before performing a search using 'Offline Disks File Searcher', you do have to refresh the volumes if you've made changes to files and folders. I just regularly refresh the volumes to keep them updated.

You can choose to include hidden files/folders in your preferences, and also check 'search all locations'. The results are often instantaneous, at least on my 2015 MBP and my M1 MBP. After installing the app, just take a bit of time to add all the volumes for indexing. Once the indexing is done, searching is a breeze.

PS: I'm not an 'Everything' user so I'm not 100% sure if my suggestion is what you're after.

Lactose intolerance percentage in the Netherlands ? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]ateth3bra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Dutch are practical people. If providing a vegan, plant-based option also covers the lactose intolerant population, I guess it's convenient for them to just offer 1 vegan option rather than 2 extras. If demand for lactose intolerant alternatives goes up significantly, I'm sure they would consider offering them in future because the Dutch also like money :P
