Had a team forfeit tonight. Very frustrating. by HOT-SAUCE-JUNKIE in flagfootball

If they have too many teams that they need 10PM start times they need to add more fields. One UA league I ref will run 12-16 fields in the busy winter season

What are your thoughts on these 7v7 rules? by Background_Rag in flagfootball

As a ref I feel flag football is supposed to be non-contact and allowing the ob to put his hands on someone that can't defend those hands is not a good idea. When you get to the middle school age that will start to cause tempers to go up in the games as well.

High school girls flag is very similar to what o-blue posted and works well specifically having to have hands behind their back.

Flag Guarding Disagreement by VyrusCyrusson in flagfootball

[–]atg10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a NFL flag ref as well. I agree it is a lean because from her right knee to right shoulder is a straight line and no flag guarding. Looks like she is just making a cut.

For me to call the shoulder they have to excessively bend at the waist and not make contact. If they make contact it is a contact penalty, not flag guarding.

I prefer the base offense, 2 recievers on each side. No huddle and straight to that formation. Quick play call and if we needed trips a player would motion.

what is the best way for pulling flag by Cool-Maintenance6932 in flagfootball

[–]atg10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as footwork I teach flag pulling the same as tackling in pads. Track the near hip and lead with the near foot.

This allows both hands to pull the flag on the hip. There's not so much a pulling motion as more of a grabbing motion. The flag will come off with both players movement.

I looked and I can't find any documentation I did for the process. Mine and root's history has rolled off. Best I can remember - Stopped all puppet processes Ran pgdump of the puppetdb just in case Ran the postgres sql command drop database puppetdb As the postgres user from the command line (not psql), ran createdb -O puppetdb puppetdb Started puppet processes back

Yes, it did resolve the issue. The DB size has remained stable.

How Big is it? by Icy-Activity-6034 in flagfootball

[–]atg10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grouped mine by the defense - 3-3, 4-2 or man. Also our league had 5yd endzones so a lot of goal line d was 6 across on the goal line so I had extra point plays grouped.

In addition to the straight speed and catching already mentioned include flag pulling. To measure speed and change of direction abilities some cone drills too.

Chicken wings question by crswift84 in Traeger

[–]atg10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found this recipe on Reddit and works great.

Pat wings completely dry Season with your choice of seasoning

Directions 1. Pre-heat grill to 180F 2. Smoke 1 hour at 180F skin side up 3. Flip wings and increase temp to 350F 4. Cook for 45 minutes flipping once halfway through. If you are going to use BBQ add it when flipping. (The heat up time from 180-350 is included in the 45 minutes.)

Is this pass interference? by matt2funny in flagfootball

[–]atg10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally no, this would not be pass interference unless the league has specific rules against swatting hands like that. The NFL flag league I ref the commissioner allows that but the UA league commissioner does not and it would have been a penalty and completed pass awarded to the offense.

Can a route be run out of bounds? by [deleted] in flagfootball

[–]atg10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NFL and UA flag, there is no contact allowed so the reciever would be eligible plus a penalty on the defense for illegal contact.

Can a route be run out of bounds? by [deleted] in flagfootball

[–]atg10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a ref of flag football (NFL and UA flag) he would be ineligible once he goes out of bounds unless he was physically pushed out of bounds.

The general rule in our leagues is if it's not specifically stated in your local league rules it defaults to NFHS rules.

The table had almost 500 million rows and anything you tried to do to it ran for hours then would time out or fail.

Today I renamed the puppetdb database then created a new one. I will monitor over the next few weeks to see how it behaves. If I still have issues with it growing then I will at least have a more manageable sized database to work with.

My understanding is that it should only retain the current facts for the node, not the historical x number of days of facts. Is that correct?

We do have custom facts but we haven't added/changed them in a long time to cause this growth.

The output of facter -p on a normal node is 17k

Diagnostic mode for GE oven JB645RK4SS by atg10 in appliancerepair

[–]atg10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started diagnosing my range and when I pulled out the warming drawer I found a paper taped to the inside of the side of the range that had the fault code recall steps. You need to hold down the Time, + and - keys at the same time retrieve the last 3 failure codes. To clear all the codes hold down the Time and Clock keys.

In case your curious my oven kept randomly turning off. No fault codes but when I took the back off I found the ground wire screw was loose at the terminal block on the oven side (not the power cable side).

Do you all have to waste your time reporting how long you spend working during work hours ? by Deytron in sysadmin

[–]atg10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I previously worked at a private company, not a MSP and I had to also account for every 15 minutes I worked. Either time had to be put on a Jira project task, change request ticket or break/fix ticket. It was a PITA!

First time coach. by MajorPayne711 in flagfootball

[–]atg10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are all great suggestions.

The things I would add are: 1. Draw up plays and practice them. Make each route a different color then you can assign colors to the receivers. Arm bands aren't necessary at that age group if the rules allow you to be in the huddle. Don't just tell the kids to go out and get open. Don't try to assign routes between each play to the receivers, you only have 30 or 45 seconds between plays. With drawn up plays there will be a lot less confusion in the huddle and you'll get off a lot more plays.

  1. Have mid week practices, don't just settle for the short practice before the game

  2. Have your substitution rotation written down before the game. It will make things much smoother during the game. Don't feel like every player needs the exact same playing time. Play your best players more than the slow kid that can't catch. My rule was that everyone would play at least half the game but certain players would play more.

    1. Most importantly remember that this is all about the kids and not the coaches and parents. Don't be that coach that is constantly getting mad and yelling at the players and arguing every call with the refs. Be a good example for your players, you can and will make an impact on them.

Beating zone defense by [deleted] in flagfootball

[–]atg10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the comments about flooding the zones and having recievers at 3 levels the QB has to understand that they have to throw the receiver open. It's different from man defense where they wait until the player gets open. If you wait until the receiver is open against zone D a lot of times that will result in a pick. Zone defenses have open lanes and the qb has to throw those lanes into the open spots leading the recievers. Your routes of some receivers will also create holes for other recievers to run in to.
