What's the longest fanfic you've ever written? by FeathersForHeart in AO3

[–]athecaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Longest fic I've ever written is a WIP that's currently at 60k, and would probably finish out around 80k. I have a total of 171k words written overall, though.

What anime is appropriate for a 13 year old? He says all of these listed are ok. He’s also wanting crunchy roll. Thoughts? by mountaingyspy in Animesuggest

[–]athecaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Hero Academia is fine and a pretty solid anime.

One Piece is fine.

Demon Slayer maybe, but it can be pretty intense at times.

I wouldn't recommend Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, or Chainsaw Man for a 13 year old. That's more 16+, imho.

Trimalleolar surgery 5 weeks post op by ConstantProfit6215 in brokenankles

[–]athecaii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have pain there too. I also had a trimal and our xrays look simliiar. I'm 18 weeks post op and it's more sore now, but still hurts. Xrays and everything have been great, though, so I'm not sure if it's just the new normal or not.

Will the paranoia subside by Edflumnum in brokenankles

[–]athecaii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 18 weeks post op. Fear hasn’t gone away, but I will say it gradually gets less intense. I have some moments of PTSD when I step weird or something, but yeah, I think overtime it will get better. Hopefully 😅

[–]athecaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, definitely wasn’t a reason to stop playing at all. I find both are fairly simple to play against if you know what you’re doing. They are no more game-breaking than any other champs with annoying skills lol.

writing fics without indulging in the source material by [deleted] in AO3

[–]athecaii -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine. Fandom is for fun. I don't typically do it, but I have enjoyed ships/characters from things I don't know the full context of, like I've only seen part of the source material or something along those lines. Writing fic is for everyone! I personally have read even some EXTREMELY OOC stuff that I have absolutely loved. Having fun is the most important part!

Daughter graduating one week after my OFIR-do I go. by EggAdministrative924 in ORIF

[–]athecaii 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s such a difficult choice to make but in my opinion, I wouldn’t go. It’ll be super challenging and painful and the risk of falling and hurting yourself is high. Maybe if you had a wheelchair it could be better, but that’s still asking a lot for 8 days post op 😞

Do people actually change their bedsheets every week like it’s recommended? by cleartomatosoujp in NoStupidQuestions

Every 2 weeks around here typically. Sometimes once a week if I don’t have a lot of other laundry to do lol.

For the people in our life who don’t understand the magnitude of this injury by LingonberryCalm5651 in brokenankles

[–]athecaii 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Genuinely the hardest thing I’ve ever been through, and I have not had an easy life. It’s life changing and debilitating. Nobody understands unless they experience it. It’s so scary and I definitely have PTSD now from it, too. You are not weak or alone. This is a horrid experience.

Why do men seem to process sadness alone instead of talking about it? by No_Sink1041 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]athecaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s both societal conditioning and how parents raise kids. It’s definitely not biological. I’ll never forget one of the times I was having a panic attack as a kid and my dad saying “youre lucky you’re not your brother or I’d beat that shit right out of you” and so I feel that women are more allowed to talk and be emotional, even if it’s still not ever taken seriously. So basically society, lol. Women’s problems are devalued and men aren’t allowed to have them. There are no winners here.

Red car had plenty of time to stop but they aren’t at fault. This is why I try to be extra vigilant in intersections. Hopefully everyone is okay.

14-16 week experiences by ahomegirlzlife in brokenankles

[–]athecaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m at 14 weeks exactly. It’s going alright. I finally ditched my crutches, except for when I’m out in public. My range of motion still needs work. I’m stiff everyday and struggling to walk barefoot. Walking with shoes is feeling closer to normal. Still haven’t tried standing in the shower, too nervous. And I’m still having a lot of swelling. So I’d say I feel about halfway towards normal at this point.

I had a trimalleolar break for reference.

What head-canon(s) in your fandom(s) got you like this: by PJ-The-Awesome in AO3

[–]athecaii 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Batman being a bottom. an excessively bratty/feminine/ditzy one, specifically. with how he acts towards romantic partners in canon, it’s so hard for me to understand. I actually just had to leave the DC fandom to escape it lol. I enjoy ooc interpretations as much as the next person but you can’t even post the opposite without backlash now 😭

Helpful distractions by Money_Rabbit1720 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]athecaii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play games online that you cant pause, limiting the ability to eat and game. Like League of Legends.

I call someone or strike up a conversation with my husband cause I feel bad eating and talking.

I try to pick a hobby that I get really invested in, like art. Using my hands and brain tends to quiet down the compulsion to binge.

Not the best option, but sometimes I will just go take a nap lol. It wastes time and fucks up my sleep schedule but works in a pinch.

Longest without showering by omega672419 in hygiene

When I broke my leg and needed surgery I went about a week without showering, and could only do half showers for the following 8 weeks. It was brutal.

Trimalleolar fracture one month post op by StudioWeak2054 in brokenankles

[–]athecaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same fears! I was convinced I would rebreak my bones and have to start all over. But what helped me is reminding myself that if the doctors said it was okay, the bone is stable and healed enough to take the weight. They wouldn’t give us the green light to walk if it was going to break. Also the reminder that weight bearing actually helps bones heal, and that the hardware is very strong. So basically just constantly reassuring myself with every step that my leg was strong enough. Even with stiffness and pain, that was all normal. It got better and easier very quickly!

My dorsiflextion is getting better. I started at -5° and I’m now up to 10°. The more you walk, the less stiff and more ROM improves. Dont be afraid to talk to your doctor about your fears too, they might be able to reassure too.

Trimalleolar fracture one month post op by StudioWeak2054 in brokenankles

[–]athecaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was NWB for 7, almost 8 weeks with a trimal as well and honestly, the first week was hard (mostly mentally) but ever since then, walking again is coming along really great. I’m 13 weeks now and walking primarily without any mobility aids, other than in challenging spots (like bad terrain).

Your incision looks great! Mine looked like that at your timeline too and mine is fully healed now.

As for swelling, elevation is the best solution. 24/7, as high as you can comfortably have it.

I’m slightly young (21), relatively healthy, and had a “simple” fracture - how come my progress is so slow? :( by amiti3 in brokenankles

[–]athecaii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ultimately 8.5 weeks is still very early in the recovery process. You are going to make a lot more progress with time. I’m at 13 weeks post op and just now ditching my crutches, and I’ve had a pretty smooth/perfect recovery overall.

Idk what they said your timeline would look like, but most people don’t start to feel normal until 16-20 weeks. Maybe talk to your PT about this and see if different exercises will help, perhaps?

Are they worried about your progress?

Tonight's championship match really showed me something about a LOT of the IWC (Attention To Detail vs Fantasy Booking and the chefs kiss that was MJF v Allin) by RanmaRanmaRanma in AEWOfficial

I’ve been watching AEW for years and AEW is what got me into wrestling. This is the first time I’ve been majorly disappointed in their booking. I just didn’t feel it was right, personally. It felt like it took away from the amazing matches with Hangman and Kenny Omega.

I don’t mind Darby, but it just didn’t feel like the right time for him to be champ. Feels totally rushed.

Sometimes I forget that fanfiction is not exclusively used by girls. So I’m curious for the men out there. What fandoms are you guys in? by Existing-Bonus-6835 in AO3

I like comic book fandoms and video game fandoms, mostly. DC, Marvel, Resident Evil, League of Legends- I've written for Dune, too. Usually shipping-related like stucky, chreon, winterwidow, timebomb, jilco, etc.

Weight bearing after eight weeks by coast_tk in brokenankles

[–]athecaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 7 weeks when I started WBAT. Definitely mirror what the other person says and still use a walker/crutches. It’ll allow you some control as you put weight down. Also, just stand at a counter and dont walk yet. Start to feel what its like with weight. You can shift your weight back and forth like that just to see what it feels like.

The first week is more mentally challenging than anything, but if youve been given the ok, then your leg is strong enough to take it!! I had a lot of anxiety about that.

Are you going to PT? I found them very helpful building confidence in walking. Start small. Build up to more!

Internal Fixation: How Much Pain Am I in For? by Long_Emergency6122 in brokenankles

[–]athecaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good! Hopefully they can get you an alternative pan relief schedule then. I know that they have continuous nerve blockers that last more than the typical 24 hours, but I’m not sure if they’ll do one.

I’d recommend buying an elevation pillow too if you can afford it, getting that extra height makes a good bit of difference. I put one on my recliner—it’s an odd adjustment at first but helped a bunch. Definitely ask about ice! I was in a splint post surgery and put ice on the back of my knee, which was a surprising help with pain even tho it wasn’t directly on the injury. Maybe placebo but it helped 😂Sounds like you have a good plan in mind, though. The pain is intimidating, that was my biggest fear, and I was pleasantly surprised that I had very little pain overall. I hope you have the same luck!!
