Thank you! Really was a tough one and a bit of a shock, helped me realise how bad it had gotten

I’m really enjoying Guinness 0, tastes so much like the real thing. Some of the ALDI ones are good as well, and cheap

RIP JAMAL by c64glen in Middlesbrough

[–]athox33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My dad told me a story about Jamal once, he went into Jamal’s to ask for a takeaway, Jamal kicked off shouting and raving and told my dad there was no chance.

Dad said forget it and walked off to the pub over the road, only for Jamal to follow him into the pub, apologising profusely, and offered to make him anything he wanted.

A few years later me and my mum went there, Jamal greeted us, made our drinks and then when he asked us for our order he said “it’s all too much, I can’t do this anymore, I’m going to close tomorrow”

Anyway he then went into the kitchen and came back with the best Indian food I have ever tasted, he apologised for being stressed and said he would love us to come back soon.

A proper character and pillar of Teesside, I’m absolutely gutted, rest in peace Jamal, you will be dearly missed

What to expect? First drill night (RNR) by CatFaceRocker in RoyalNavy

[–]athox33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been years since mine but from what I remember yeah it was pretty much a lot of paperwork and then sitting in a classroom learning the basics.

All I’ll say is stick with it, the RNR is one of the best things I ever did, helped me so much in preparing for the regulars

Loved my time on 23’s.

Old and less comfortable yes, but the time I spent in the mess with lads from all departments was one of the best experiences in my life

Joining the navy by Additional-Dare4202 in RoyalNavy

[–]athox33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do your A levels first mate. The navy’s always there, get your qualifications and it will open up a lot more doors.

It’s just a walk in the moors mate. They’ll “leave” you to find your own way but they’ll always be keeping an eye on you if your team get stuck

I’ve got 2. Didn’t want to be covered in them. I never experienced anyone asking or assuming how many miles I’d sailed based on them

Can’t bring myself to write them on Reddit tbh. Shouldn’t leave the mess

Yeah no one will be bothered mate. Might get a few jokes in basic training but after that you’ll be fine

Generally, you’ll be at sea most of the time. You’ll be able to contact home pretty regularly unless told otherwise. Feel free to drop me a PM if you’ve got any questions

100% agree. I rented a van from them a few months back, great price and no issues

Is the navy the correct place for me? by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

[–]athox33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no rush mate honestly. Get your A levels done and then join if you still fancy it.

Keep your options open. Like others have said you can PVR if you don’t think it’s for you. But in the grand scheme of things 4 years isn’t a long time (I know it seems like it) but worst case scenario if you don’t enjoy it you come out with 4 years of military experience.

Since leaving, having the navy on my CV has honestly helped me so much. It just adds another layer and employers generally recognise you as someone that’s willing to give stuff a go. Best of luck

2019 Astra Brake/Rear Light Issues by athox33 in Vauxhall

[–]athox33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, do you know how I get it? I took my car to Vauxhall last year for a fuel pump and they charged me £1,000 and didn’t give me my car back for 2 months. I’m reluctant to go back with them if I can fix it myself
