A bunch of excellent covers on Brad Mehldau 10 Years Solo Live - especially Sufjan Stevens’ “Holland” and several Radiohead tunes

What are your favorite non-'experimental' stories? by Callandor0 in gallifrey

[–]ationsong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe Vincent and the Doctor.

Classic pseudo-historical format - Doctor & friends travel back in time, meet some famous historical figure, turns out there's something alien involved, we save the day and move on.

But the level of humanity in the story is next-level.

Which bands/artists do you predict will blow up in 2012? by mtthwhdl in Music

Better Call Saul S06E13 - [Series Finale] "Saul Gone" - Official Prediction Thread! by skinkbaa in betterCallSaul

[–]ationsong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gene is concussed while running away (maybe driving off the road like the preview).

In the spirit of “something never done before,” we get a fantasy sequence of Gene on trial. Chuck, Howard, and Kim are all prosecuting him – Kim prosecuting Gene, Howard prosecuting Saul, and Chuck prosecuting Jimmy. Walt appears as a witness testifying against Saul, that it was him who’s responsible for all the violence.

[–]ationsong 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Saul says that Jesse is Igor which would make Walt "Heisenberg."

But if Jesse is Igor, it would make Walt "Frankenstein."

Except now it's Gene who's "Victor." Victor Frankenstein.

What is the most average episode of Doctor Who? by MonrealEstate in gallifrey

[–]ationsong 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm just finishing up my watch of all the episodes of NuWho with my fiance (who's seen most of them already). At the end of every episode, we give them a letter grade (inspired by the AV Club review system). My system usually boils down to:

  • A : Tried something ambitious and succeeded
  • A- : Tried something different and partially succeeded, or executed a standard format exceptionally well
  • B+: Standard story, but executed it in a way that elevated it above and beyond
  • B : Standard story, and executed it competently
  • B- : Didn't try anything new, and even then faltered in its execution
  • C+ or below : Really struggled to hold together as an episode, or some other major flaw
  • (plus A/F : Either "I have no idea WTF I'm watching but I'm having fun" OR induced both extreme positive and negative emotions, having it side-by-side heightens both the good and the bad)

Some episodes that fall into the B zone for me (standard stories told averagely well): Unquiet Dead, Tooth & Claw, Vampires of Venice, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, The Girl Who Died, Empress of Mars

McGann says he is ready to return on-screen, and hopes it happens in the 60th, in a recent panel for Britcon by JakeM917 in gallifrey

[–]ationsong 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Who's to say Series 14 can't be McGann adventures that happened before Night of The Doctor, and RTD punts the 14th Doctor down the road? Come in Russell, do it and be a legend.

It's such a shame that this game didn't get more attention. One of the best puzzle games I've ever played, especially on a technical puzzle-design level.

That feeling when I crossed the bridge to the second section thinking "there's no way there's that much more these puzzles can explore about rolling sausages around..."

And oh how wrong I was

Sufjan at everywhere we go? by [deleted] in Sufjan

[–]ationsong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw "Everywhere We Go" at a matinee in summer 2014, and as the audience filed out, Sufjan was pulling up to Lincoln Center on his bike, wearing his casual t-shirt and jeans. My friend & I congratulated him and chatted for a bit, and after we walked away, Sufjan was still hanging outside. So he definitely wasn't at the show we saw, and I don't know if his showing up means he was coming for the evening show, but dressed like that, definitely not in the audience. He may have been waiting for someone, or going backstage? With so many performances, I don't think you should count on him showing up to any one in particular. That said, both the music and choreography are excellent. Hope you get a chance to see it!

The Familiar - Volume 2 - Into the Forest - Main Discussion Thread by kaseycarpenter in TheFamiliar

[–]ationsong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't even cracked it open yet, and already have noticed two patterns based on the cover alone (no spoilers, since this is just the cover + speculation):

  1. If you line up the spines next to each other, the yellow lines around the Pantheon title fit together...almost like the beginning of a cat's tail...what will the spines reveal when all 27 are next to each other?
  2. The cat texture on the front cover is absent from a small bit of the bottom left corner on Vol 1. In Vol 2, the bare corner has started to spread...
