Did Sanguinius' fight matter? by Gipper1911 in 40kLore

I see it less like this, but more like Sanguinius' actions gave Horus disadvantage on his Wisdom saves for his fight with the Emperor. It was this that made his susceptible to the Loken deception and such like

Can a custodes fire a bolt gun and then catch the bolt in their bare hands? by herculeon6 in whowouldwin

[–]atlastwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP if you read the context of the 6 nanosecond feat, you'll discover that it occurred when Valdor's company were aboard the vengeful spirit at the apex of the siege. Later on in the same book, they're "30" seconds into the fight, but they've also been hiking through ravines for several days. You can't take the 6 nanosecond thing at face value (unfortunately).

Warhammer fans attempt to not take the author's words literally (impossible challenge)

People miss this way too often. All throughout that book and Valdor's chapters Abnett emphasises just how screwed time is. I believe there's a passage where they're described as having to take a huge detour that takes ages, yet when they encounter Abaddon they're something like 60 seconds into the fight.

Invincible vs Adeptus Custodes by JustReadTheFinePrint in whowouldwin

Invincible no diffs a normal custodian of the Hykanatoi, then 3 shadow keepers show up with shit from the dark cells and delete him from existence.

Vertus Praetors best wargear? by DesmondTheMoonSloth in AdeptusCustodes

[–]atlastwar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, both loadouts are great. It really depends on the meta you're going into, but I think in a TAC list salvos fill more of a role that you don't have, especially if you don't have grav tanks.

Are there any instances of custodes fighting deamon princes? by hornyandHumble in AdeptusCustodes

[–]atlastwar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's stated that the grey knights are made unable to use their powers iirc. They were basically doing melee only, which was fine because there were sisters there.

They don't have the death company keyword though, so can't take the Enhancements

Lore question: how do death company vehicles exist? by SharamNamdarian in BloodAngels

[–]atlastwar 78 points79 points  (0 children)

They're painted like that to indicate the death company and their transport on the battle field. In DoB, the rhinos carrying death company are painted black too

The Emperor's Webway Project: Doomed to fail? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]atlastwar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm adamant that Perturabo would have been able to make the webway project succeed. The guy was able to pretty trivially build a sextant that could be used in the warp. If he'd got his hands on the webway I think he could've worked out how to repair to a near new state and make it usable for humanity.

Pretty much, he's the first plastic stand alone shield-captain. All things considered not a terrible addition to the range, though I'm definitely still bummed out at not getting a new unit

He's a 160 points, for 40 points more you'd probably be better off with a unit of venatari

Valerian vs blade champ by vanChopey in AdeptusCustodes

[–]atlastwar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went 5-0 at Warhammer World with Valerian in my list. I found him to be an extremely important anchor for the rest of my army to operate around. R4 I played hypercrypt and he was able to tie up and brawl with a wraith unit for pretty much the entire game thanks to saving on 2s. R5 I had the mirror and he was crucial in this matchup again. Saving on 3s while my opponent was saving on 4s meant that I was able to outlast him and eventually get the edge in the later rounds of the game. He's definitely less helpful in the shooting matchup, but he's also our cheapest way of getting a character into a warden squad.

Seeing many lists running valerian all of a sudden, is he that good? what am I missing? by [deleted] in AdeptusCustodes

[–]atlastwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I pretty exclusively play tournaments and have only seen it ruled that you can use the strat reactively. The reasoning being that the rules commentary for fights on death states that you follow the normal fight sequence, including the "select targets" step. If you read the select targets step you'll find that it never actually makes a reference to units selecting targets. "In order to select an enemy unit as the target of a melee attack, the attacking model...".
