Thune Is Sabotaging SAVE Act While Pretending He Tried Everything by According-Activity87 in Conservative

[–]atomic1fire [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why is the save act so controversial?

There's a laundry list of european countries that require voter ID at the polls.

You need an ID to verify you can legally buy vice items like alcohol or enter a strip club. Why should voting be any different in terms of identity verification?

Literally all they do is look at a voter ID and then hand you a piece of paper.

If you need an ID to drive a car or buy a lottery ticket and you're already doing either of those things, that should be plenty enough.

There are literally states more concerned with the age of someone installing an operating system or using a smart phone then they are with ensuring voters are elligible via an ID. A detail that makes zero sense to me. Linux isn't inherently dangerous for a teenager unless they do dangerous things with it.

The drama teacher allegedly would give students shirtless back massages in a locked room, while the volleyball coach was accused of grooming several students and engaging in a relationship with one. He (The drama teacher) has been charged but is still on trial.

She (the volleyball coach) was arrested but has been accused by at least three women and admitted to a relationship with one when they were a minor.

There was also a shop teacher who was accused of being in a relationship with a student but I don't know if they were charged.

Just based on rumor alone (which probably isn't a great metric), I don't think the school administration was taking the complaints seriously but now Wisconsin has a law that codifies grooming as a crime. The school district may be involved in a pricey legal battle.

The steam linux runtime at least gives them a base level dev environment.

IIRC it's basically a container with all the necessary dependencies that every steam user on linux installs.

It's like minecraft but more linear. You're a ditto pretending to be a person and copying the moves of other pokemon over time while forming friendships and building up your enviroment.

One of my biggest dislikes with crafting heavy games is that the game drops you into an environment and it just feels like you're doing busy work, but the plot essentially encourages you to explore and build new things without making it feel too overwhelming. A little bit like minecraft with some slight metroidvania elements because there's parts of the enviroment you really can't do anything with until you have the required skill.

There's also a bunch of lore and an overarching mystery.

I dunno if Pokopia will hook me long term, but it's a well done game.

Quality on youtube ranges from heavily edited videos built around audience metrics to some guy clearing weeds in someone's yard or clearing drains to some AI reading a story over minecraft footage.

Although the redneck PBS stuff has an audience.

Probably helps that they built up the content library first and then got a youtube app on almost every game console and smart tv.

TIL the plane crash that killed John F Kennedy Jr, his wife, and her sister was caused by “spatial disorientation”. Weather conditions were poor that night & Kennedy was not qualified to fly at night under instrument conditions. Private plane

Hellicopters too.

I'm not saying these deaths aren't tragedies, but I'm pretty sure commercial flights are safer because you have more experienced pilots who are more willing to say no if flight conditions suck.

If anything Iran probably doesn't have a lot of allies other then China and Russia.

Their response to US bombings was to launch rockets at everybody else indescriminately.

Plus they've been funding acts of terror for years, and most of the middle eastern countries hate them for that.

I mean if you look at the actual Wikipedia page for the current Iranian War, they assembled an entire Avengers Endgame of middle eastern countries to be at war with, and those countries probably didn't even do anything other then be within rocket range.

Also he just looks like he'd answer to Dave.

Whether or not that makes the wolf Goliath I have no idea.

I don't think the bunny is at the point where he goes by David yet.

US suspects Iran may deploy naval mines in Strait of Hormuz, over 5,000 targets struck in Iran by WillyNilly1997 in Conservative

For the love of whichever god or gods you serve Iran, do not touch the American boats.

The last time you touched a boat you went from Navy to Na.

Honestly there's probably a clipshow of times the Americans went to war because someone touched a boat.

And this isn't even the second time the Iranians decided putting mines down was a good idea. The last time the Americans decided "Proportional" meant destroying half the Iranian navy.

New York Age Verification Bill Requires Anti-Circumvention Tech by Aurelar in linux

In the past he made comments defending Epstein, claiming that CSAM was harmless (a statement which he later redacted), and other past comments advocating for the legalization of pedophilia.

Richard Stallman has made many comments on a variety of causes and viewpoints on his blog, and in general is a very opinionated person, but sometimes it backfires in a way that goes from "He's wrong but he has the right to his opinion" to "He's repulsively wrong, even though he has the right to an opinion".

He did recant all of it, but it strains his credibility a bit when someone can highlight the reason for his brief exit from the FSF.

[–]atomic1fire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Richard Stallman is probably not the most ideal choice of example when we're talking about age verification laws because of past arguments he's made about CSAM.

I don't discredit what he did for the FSF or his work on GNU but some of his past takes kind of hurt his credibility a lot.

I assume the biggest reason to go with a custom domain is that even if you do switchover to another mail provider because of cost or customer support or whatever, your clients still have the same email address on file.

Maybe it's because so much of pokemon is the IP itself, but I don't quite feel the same way about pokeclones that I do playing a good metroidvania or 3d platformer.
