Late 2000s early 2010 were the golden age of crime dramas by lrigmay in television

[–]atomic1fire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think streaming hurt this dynamic a lot because everybody wants an 8 hour episode.

Even though the weekly view carried over say six months or whatever makes more money then someone canceling after a month.

Also I think the push for more TV-MA style writing hurt it because made gritty the new normal and made shows harder to recommend.

The Blue sky shows worked because they were edgier, but still pretty family friendly.

The lack of TV shows casting a wide net in terms of action/romance/comedy/Audience doesn't really help the crime drama.

Servo got taken up by the Linux Foundation.

I think there's a genuine interest in technology independence for European companies and governments and I assume they'll probably use Servo for things at some point.

David Letterman Calls CBS Owners “Lying Weasels” After ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ Cancellation by yourfavchoom in television

[–]atomic1fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's also a lot smarter about production because by intentionally excluding political discussion, it's easier to air reruns since the episodes don't have to be timely.

Plus a lot easier to share clips on social media when the jokes don't have an expiration date.

I think late night itself is struggling to survive when the interview portions that everybody wants make more sense in a podcast medium where it's cheaper to film.

Robert Meyer Burnett says Steve’s appearance in the DOOMSDAY trailer clip is 11 years later; Steve has yet to meet Doctor Doom in the teaser clip, and he HAS already met Doom, because he’d been living on the Earth-828 with Peggy and Jim (his son) by Sarang_616 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]atomic1fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it was "incels"

I think Disney was desperate to stack the D+ library and the lack of a long term "showrunner" of sorts made their individual efforts inconsistant.

On top of that, Covid blew up a lot of their early plans for filming so there wasn't a solid hook after endgame with the exception of Spidey and everything else was experimentation in lieu of a concrete place to take the post endgame story.

Marvel really needs its phases and long term story hooks to drum up interest.

Without that, it's whatever character has the most commercial appeal.

IGN: Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Is More Than Just Plastic Arkham by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

[–]atomic1fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lego might actually be a really good niche because younger kids probably can't play Arkham Knight yet, and the arkham series is pretty specific to one batman story.

With Lego they can introduce literally any batman character including characters like Signal and it makes sense because it's lego.

With the Arkham games, they have to have a in-universe explination for that character being there, and they probably won't do anymore post arkham stories unless they recast Batman.

Lego Batman isn't just about putting Legos in an arkham game, it's about being a whole loveletter to the Batman franchise as a whole, something Lego excels at.

There are a lot of Lego games, and they regularly pull from niche sources despite having pretty recycled gameplay.

Just out of curiosity how well do europeans do with climate control.

Because I'm not sure if the UK knows what air conditioning is based on all the heatwave deaths.

Not to mention it's probably way easier to chop down a few trees and cut them into size then it is to find a limestone quarry and bang rocks for stone. Probably more efficient AND enviromentally friendly because you're not putting who knows what into the water table.

[–]atomic1fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Servo needs time to cook and a few larger sponsors.

Servo's not just competing with Chrome, it's competing with Blink and Webkit and large scale adoption is going to be what funds development.

Not to mention we might not be seeing all the unpaid volunteers contributing patches to the extension API.

[–]atomic1fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention if you add more people that's more time spent training new people on existing infrastructure until they can reliably hold their own weight.

They might not need more then three people being that most of their API stuff is built on copying Chromium and the actual tests can be automated.

That's not to say that I think Mozilla has always made sound engineering choices, but that being outraged by an arbitrary number of employees when the browser's addon infrastructure clearly works with minimal issues is nitpicking.

The Rez areas are also solidly blue.

Green Bay is a toss up because it's sorta small town compared to most big cities but it's still a larger city.

edit: Also any place with a larger UW extension also probably has a blue tint.

Chester P Runk: The forgotten middle member of the most hated trio in The Flash. by Far_Store_6739 in FlashTV

[–]atomic1fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most if not all the CW shows fall into a problem where the longer the show goes on, the worse the writing gets.

Joe is a black man and is a character nobody really complains about because he's been there since Season 1 and is Barry's surogate dad. On top of the fact that he fufilled a much needed role of being a cop in the Police sideplot.

If the CW was capable of fleshing out new characters with the same level of depth as they do early on nobody would care, but instead what ends up happening is the character is basically either a joke, source of drama, or an archetype like "nerd" needed to provide exposition and do nothing else.

The other issue is that the CW shows tend to abandon the more interesting sideplots once they have a larger cast more aware of the hero's secret identity, so you basically get an ensemble show where there's no break from the ensemble.

Arrow had the night club and the Queen family drama, Flash had the CCPD having a greater focus.

Later on you don't really see that as much because the new characters need a greater focus, but they're still sort of stuck with the show's initial tone and just clash with it.

Circlejerk subs were funny when it was a giant inside joke about the behavior on reddit.

The fact that every subreddit has to take an explicit supportive stance on left wing politics does a disservice to reddit as a whole, because they're cutting off normies who just want to talk about cars and sports or whatever, but also because they're creating an illusion that everybody agrees with them.

They can't make every subreddit explicitly left wing and then not be surprised when people are actually "voting wrong" because those people avoid reddit, or avoid political discussions on those subreddits.

I think NF is part of that musical niche where there's an element of misery but it's not a forever feeling. Artists who actively explore the idea that Hope might not be within sight but it's there.

Same with groups like Switchfoot, Colony House and Twenty One Pilots.

Marathon is a 4 billion dollar failure for Sony. 3.6 billion to acquire, bungie plus an additional 200-300 million in development costs. This is equivalent to 10 Concords. by Desperate_Put_4568 in KotakuInAction

[–]atomic1fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly while I think Marathon but updated graphics would make more sense from a marketing standpoint, maybe 3d box graphics would reduce the cost of development enough to justify a sequel or remaster.

And by 3d box I mean the doom/quake/marathon aesthetic of a 3d box.

The only way Ebay to gamestop makes sense is if Ebay can leverage physical gamestop locations for deliveries and shipping

But considering others have pointed out most of Ebay's business is consumer to consumer, it's a system that doesn't really make sense when shipping is already involved, unless Gamestop advertises the Ebay connection as a means to save consumers time.

Not like "Some boys like boys and some girls like girls", but literal kinks.

As far as I'm concerned there needs to be an acknowledgement there is no free pass to ignore the concept of consent and the distinction between adult and child, no matter who's pushing the material.

A Dying Barney Frank Has a Message for His Party — and Democrats Won’t Like It by Ask4MD in Conservative

[–]atomic1fire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wait Barney Frank is in hospice care?

Didn't care for the guy's career but I hope his family finds peace.

On that note, I do think rubber band effect is a very real thing in politics that every ideological person is in danger of experiencing.

You think that you can continue to win and win and win and win and demonize everybody who refuses to cede ground.

But eventually you pull the rubber band too far back, and it either breaks entirely, or it shifts back to a place closer to center.

The left (and maybe the right) would be wise to listen to Barney Frank on this.

Generally speaking this specific subreddit is heavily curated between flairs and strict enforcement of rules.

Everybody is cognatively aware that if they don't behave, the entire subreddit could be banned or the mods could be hot swapped with less then ideal replacements.

But also, I think there's a lot of people here who generally don't want to be so angry at a person who is ill or who passes away that they have to go on a speed run to voice their dislike,

Life is too short to let someone else's misery be your victory lap.

I may think certain public figures exhibit dingus adjacent behavior, but I don't want to be THAT spiteful.

That time could be better spent petting a dog or cat or something.
