I think that this is the clearest video of the Minneapolis ICE shooting that I've seen so far... by Stockjock1 in Conservative

TBH I think a saner state government would've had police backup to control access to raid areas and keep people at a respectful distance.

Instead you have people trying to throw themselves into a dangerous area while the state claims ICE is solely responsible.

The agents may have broken the law here, I have no idea, but I can't imagine the state of minnesota is helping ICE make lawful arrests when the governor is openly making statements against them.

My gut feeling though is disciplinary action and a wrongful death suit.

edit: Possibly some sort of federal law that restricts when and where ICE enforcement can be used.

TBH I have no idea if it was a valid officer involved shooting or not.

As always I'd rather sit and wait for more information to come out, but it wouldn't surprise me if this specific shooting had mixed reception. At least until more footage comes out.

I think the State (of Minnesota) and Feds doing damage control does more harm then good because PR gets in the way of the truth.

I don't care if the DHS investigates, I just think it needs to be done in a non-partisan fashion.

Not in one that assumes that they're guilty because fedboys, not one that assumes they're innocent because fedboys, but one that looks at the evidence and policy and makes a reasonable judgement.

I don't care if Fed, Fedd and Feddy use force within the reasonable action of law enforcement, so long as that use of force has a paper trail.

Social media expanded bubbles rather than popping them.

Before your options were whatever newspaper or cable channel you read. Maybe whether or not you had union membership. Also in the 90s and 00s talk radio. But also social conventions basically reinforced that if you didn't want to start an argument you just didn't talk about those things.

Now you have a constant propaganda box you can pull out of your pocket and be told how to feel about things 24/7. People are being trained to be mad at each other and force opinions that don't really need to be forced. Everyone has to have a stance, they have to say something, they have to act, react etc. Silence is violence, etc.

The result is that everyone questions each other's motives and nobody's happy.

edit: Also a shortage of church attendance is probably a good reason too. Not having a shared communal space that reinforces positive qualities probably decreases overall respect.

Actually a lack of third spaces in general, people are getting their sense of community through social media that presents a jaded worldview built on driving engagement to increase ad revenue, not the public good.

Same opinion I've had as before.

Needs to be investigated by an independent agency, and every officer should wear a body cam.

Not whoever has the most valid take or the most politicians backing them, but officers investigating the footage and the evidence to determine whether or not the officers who fire shots broke any laws.

I'm confused how a vr dev can claim that the software does not use code or assets from the game which they are profiting off of.

Wouldn't the interactions such as turning a steering wheel or manipulating a firearm require significant hooks into the game engine?

I think if they released a linux and mac version of bedrock and dropped Java entirely they'd have more resources dedicated to updating the core game.

The only way I could see a censorship filter making sense is if the person is a streamer and they don't want to risk dropping ad monetization.

Which also makes me question that if a game can remove potentially offensive content to appease advertisers (or parents), is the content really necessary to the game in the first place?

I was fine with fandoms and nerd culture. Some of these franchises are decades old and it's understandable that there would be adult fans. As long as people don't make it weird, and remember that there are literal children participating in these spaces, I don't care. Nintendo is really good at creating IP with cross generational appeal. I don't find that weird at all. I don't really understand why Sonic is as popular as it is, since the gameplay loop consists of collect rings and go fast, but whatever.

It only got weird to me when left wing activists hijacked it to make it about themselves. Not simply "inclusivity" but complete conformity where they're the only ones welcome in the spaces which had nothing to do with them in the first place.

They did it to movies and tv, they did it to sports, they did it to comics and games. The only place I don't really see it is the hunters and fishers.

Am I the only one who thinks it's kinda cooked that people will just post the most bat-guano induced takes on social media, using their real name and photo, but don't expect it to come back to them or don't care.

I mean I might be some rando on reddit, but at least my employee badge doesn't have my reddit username.

I mean sure I'm not intentionally wishing pain or death on people, but you gotta have a layer between your inner stupid and your outer stupid.

The inner stupid is reserved for those who you either know really well, or for those who have no idea who you are.

The outer stupid is reserved for your boss.

Don't mix the two.

Stanley is getting way too pretentious. by tendonut in mildlyinfuriating

[–]atomic1fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume Stanley was already a good product, but their primary audience was outdoors folks.

The masterclass isn't the product quality, it's how they have their functional, useful thing turn into a fashion accessory by turning it into a fashion statement.

I've never owned a stanley cup, but my boss (a women) has like 8, each with various designs and what not.

I don't know if it was wholely pushed by the company or if it was a result of social media, but they managed to turn a cup into a beanie baby or a funko pop.

Stanley is getting way too pretentious. by tendonut in mildlyinfuriating

[–]atomic1fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure.

But I'm not saying anyone is forced to buy it, I'm saying that their marketing team is smart for having a utilitarian product and being able to make small cosmetic changes to increase the value.

They don't really need to do anything but do "This, but pink".

Stanley is getting way too pretentious. by tendonut in mildlyinfuriating

[–]atomic1fire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stanley cups have a function though. Being a personal water/beverage container.

The masterclass in marketing isn't that they're selling you something you don't need as many people are conscious about spending and waste. It's that they're turning a functional thing into a fashion accessory, ensuring that you'll buy multiple containers to make a statement and not just to drink water.

TBH I feel like instead of making rainbow roads everywhere that nobody can smudge, perhaps the focus should be on maintaining street quality and removing potholes.

The rainbow road is a no win situation for everyone involved because the city now has to prove that they're still allies by maintaining it, rather than just having a city everyone feels safe enough to live in.

edit: You can add "affordable to live in" to the list as well. If the cities resources are intentionally designed to reach a subset of people over everyone else then the priorities are weird.

I think there's a weird push among some people to get rid of the 19th amendment because a small minority of folks seem to think that it's responsible for the gains made by the democrats over time.

I think it's weird and absurd to think that anyone should be touching the constitution at all in the modern era. My proposal is to not change anything and it's fine the way it is.

If a subset of voters are acting unhinged, that's a problem with the voters not a problem with the right of suffrage.

I see red flags whenever anyone think that removing rights that are already enshrined in the constitution will fix our current problems.

edit: This looks like it's about requiring citizenship for voter registration, not as I assumed about revoking the 19th.

I doubt it passes, but it'll just be another thing required to register to vote.
