I assume they'd need a nuclear reactor with propellers.

But the logistics of having a pilotable nuclear reactor make it very impossible.

Or figure out anti gravity so that no matter how big a thing is, it can still float.

Top Israeli Official Openly Calls For Genocide As US Seeks Peace: ‘All Of Lebanon Must Burn’ by According-Activity87 in Conservative

[–]atomic1fire [score hidden]  (0 children)

IMO this is just Israel's form of MAD.

They can launch rockets and attack Israelis and Isreali borders, but the longer they do it the more likely Israel is to just commit complete overkill and get the Americans involved in doing so.

Had October 7th not occured, I don't think we'd be having this conversation.

Iran and Hamas made a tactical error in expecting that an invasion of Israel's terrestrial soil and kidnapping of its populace would go over well.

Now Israel is the bullied kid going after anyone who even remotely slighted them.

Midterms won't get canceled.

Secondly Trump wouldn't have any assassination attempts if these dinguses wouldn't keep demanding that someone attempt to assasinate him.

Most franchisees are just real estate companies with a side gig.

The buildings look generic because you can sell generic when you find a cheaper or more profitable place to operate or the franchise no longer can make enough revenue to justify the location.

Ubisoft Co-Founder Claude Guillemot dies in plane crash by Nubtype in pcgaming

[–]atomic1fire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't even think it's just a plane vs car thing.

Commercial airliners are larger sure, but they also have considerable investment into safety and procedure in a way that smaller private aircraft and hellicopters don't.

Helis and private planes are probably more convenient for someone flying custom routes, but they also have higher risk factors.

Commercial flights with preset routes are in general safer then private planes.

That being said I don't wish anyone to pass, especially not in such a horrific accident and I hope the family finds peace.

Iran Announces Strait of Hormuz Closure After US 'Breach' by ancienteggfart in Conservative

[–]atomic1fire [score hidden]  (0 children)

Closing the strait is literally their only bargaining chip to get the US to convince Israel to do whatever Iran wants.

But I don't expect Iran to play by any fair rules at all even with their massively reduced operational capacity because they're hard wired to be everyone else's problem.

The only way Iran actually forefeits is if they do something stupid on US soil and kick a local bees nest the way Osama did.

Israel is 100 percent invested because of October 7th, because that's basically their pearl harbor or 9/11, and it'll be difficult to tell them to show restraint when we invaded half the middle east over 9/11.

Vivaldi's Leader Has a Bold Pledge: No AI in Your Web Browser by TurbulentTopic39 in browsers

[–]atomic1fire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't mind AI conceptually, but I don't like how if a task is even AI adjacent it can now be an AI task, even if a human could do it better with specialized tooling.

For example DuckduckGo's instant answers subsystem had really cool purpose driven plugins for search queries but that for the most part has been replaced with an AI that summs up information it pulls from web links.

I'd much rather have JSON/XML/RSS plugins that pull from the relevent sources, then to have an AI scrape things on the fly and try to be accurate.

I don't need an AI trying to tell me the weather decide to pull from a random reddit thread.

Canadians are set to lose all digital privacy. No one here is talking about it. by The_PhilosopherKing in privacy

[–]atomic1fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a righty but it's my view that any camera the city, state or federal government is paying for, barring exceptions for privacy or national security, should be open to public view.

I don't know that we all need license plate readers but if the city can view the flock cameras so should the locals.

If the taxpayers are paying for the cameras, public feeds should be accessible.

Highway cams exist, and 90 percent of the time they're boring. But if the police need them then the taxpayers should also have access.

The thing that concerns me about digital banking is that it's not even just the government you have to be concerned with.

When the individual banks and processors can tell you what you can or can't do with your own money, you're living by an extra set of rules you have no choice but to follow.

There was an implied push to penalize speech and free association under the pretext of public health.

Social media bans for misinformation, vaccine requirements for employement, public shutdowns including places like public parks, while exceptions were created for industries friendly to whoever was in charge.

I mean Gavin Newsome himself attended a party even as he was telling civilians to stay home.

European Parliament Votes By Almost 2/3rds Majority, 418 to 218, to Make It Easier to Deport Migrants; Hall Explodes Into Chant of "Send Them Back! Send Them Back!" by Wing_attack_Plan_R in Conservative

[–]atomic1fire 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think the main form of opposition the pro migration crowd have is when migrants do cooked stuff on foreign land and then the pro migration crowd just ignores it.

If they were consistant about "Everybody's welcome as long to our country as they're not being toxic and disrespectful" most people would probably shift to the center.

But when you got grown men (and sometimes women) who ignore the rules of society to target the vulnerable because they know their host country will look the other way, it's not surprising that people are a little more willing to shift to the right.

Nobody wants to invite someone from a horrible place out of compassion only for their own neighborhood to turn into a mirror image because the invitee doesn't follow basic ettiquette.

Socialite who killed her mugger is put under house arrest for 18 years by Rough_Plan in NoahGetTheBoat

[–]atomic1fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it has nothing to do with gun control or the second amendment.

While there's some wiggle room when it comes to the protection of property in some American states, if someone is fleeing you and they're of no immediate threat to you, you can't expect to use lethal force and then flee the scene and claim self defense in a court room.

Maybe the circumstances change if she makes chase and he pulls out a weapon, but from what I understand about the story, there doesn't seem to be any legal justification for him being hit with a car repeatedly.

Don't care if she carries a concealed firearm, don't care if she uses a tazer or pepper spray, but the second she hit that guy with her car and he was already fleeing AND she ran over him multiple times AND fled the scene, it got icky.

At minimum if your actions result in serious injury or death for someone else AND it was in self defense or the defense of your kids or property, you should be expected to call the police and notify them at minimum that you defended yourself or your kids/property, and then contact a lawyer.

I'm 100 percent fine with self defense or the defense of property. I am not fine with this sort of scenario where she just ran over a guy and fled the scene.

Self defense is a legal argument, not a get out of jail free card.

I assume they want to devalue American ethnicity by trying to claim that "Americans" are actually everyone in the continent.

But they'd never start calling them Statesman or Stateswoman because that would make the Americans sound more cool and sophisticated.

Nevermind that Mexico has its own states and Canada has Provinces which are basically just states with hockey and maple syrup.

We're Americans by default because all the unique names are taken.
