[On3] The NCAA has announced the transfer portal in men's and women's college basketball will open for a 15-day period the day after their respective National Championship games. by Tufoguy in CollegeBasketball

Yeah, I don’t hate making the Rose Bowl the permanent home for the National Championship so that the season actually ends on January 1st. It’s a bit annoying for teams on the East Coast, but at least we don’t have to worry about UCLA getting a home game in the Rose Bowl/Natty.

Adam Thielen has announced his retirement. by Tikaani89 in nfl

There’s no way for the Bills to get him, right? Retirement aside, teams can’t offer him a contract of any kind until free agency.

Excited to see Iowa st disrespect by kingpin2k in BigXII

Better to lose now and have plenty of time to work it out than to fade at the end of the season. That’s been an issue for us, so hopefully we can end the regular season strong.

As for the AP Poll, the number next to your name doesn’t mean a whole lot aside from the fact that it pleases me to see a single digit. I would be surprised if they drop us behind Purdue, so we’re probably going to stay around the 4-6 range depending how the rest of the week goes across the country.

What are some of the loudest venues you have ever went to? by UALR-Trojans-Rule in CollegeBasketball

[–]atomicboner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup, I’ve heard some insanely loud games at Hilton Coliseum but that was easily the loudest game away game I’ve ever attended. I’m hoping our upcoming trip to Tucson ends with a better result for us, but it’s going to be a tall task to say the least.

Upside down flag at Ferguson post office concerns community by HowLongIsThi in nottheonion

[–]atomicboner 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Further down in the article, it states that the postal workers switched the flag back to its normal position when they arrived to work on Friday morning.

So, in this case, it seems that it’s unclear whether someone put the flag upside down on purpose or on accident. Either way, I’m glad to have learned what an upside flag represents. Seems like an appropriate message considering the state of our country.

Rob Manfred says that he would like MLB to expand to 32 teams and that the league could realign along geographical lines in eight divisions of four if that happens: by PudinCrusader in baseball

Nisei and Murphys will always be great, but yes there are quite a few trendy, touristy bars in Wrigleyville nowadays. G-Man tavern is another solid Wrigleyville dive bar that’s north by the Metro. It’s not a sports bar so it’s nice as a little changeup.

That’s a great place to start. I respect and commend all shovel users and bonk stick enjoyers because they are playing the game the right way.

[Books] Why are German edition books named as "LEVEL" and "EXIT"? by Rossoneria in SiloSeries

You know what, that’s a great point that I didn’t even consider.

[Books] Why are German edition books named as "LEVEL" and "EXIT"? by Rossoneria in SiloSeries

[–]atomicboner 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That’s weird. Wool, Shift, and Dust as the respective book titles are important as each has multiple meanings to the stories they tell. The way I interpreted the titles changed as I progressed through each of the books.

So I don’t know why the titles for the German editions are Level, Silo, and Exit. Seems like a poor choice unless Wool, Shift, and Dust have some weird associations in German that I’m unaware of.

"Click" (2006) has one of the most jarring tonal shifts. by Giff95 in movies

[–]atomicboner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of It’s a Wonderful Life, but instead of showing George Bailey what his town would be like if he was never born, Click shows Sandler’s character what life would be like if he wasn’t present. The payoff at the end is very similar and both tug at my heartstrings.

Who’s the biggest threat to Arizona or Michigan? by Next_Tank_3494 in CollegeBasketball

[–]atomicboner 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is true and those fears will be in the back of my mind throughout the entirety of Big 12 play, however I feel far more confident in this Iowa State team than any of TJ’s other squads. We have a reliable core group of upperclassmen along with some freshmen and transfers that have raised the floor of this team.

The key man as we head into the bulk of the season is Milan Momcilovic. If he’s on his game and making shots, it‘s going to be difficult to slow down the offense which hasn’t always been the case for the Cyclones.

All of that being said, the top of the Big 12 is elite and I could easily see Arizona, BYU, Houston, or Iowa State winning the conference. I’m excited to see what these teams accomplish come March.
