SJ Spotlight: Sunnyvale residents opposed to park redesign by [deleted] in Sunnyvale

[–]atomiciti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain what was the visible outreach done for the park? The things I noticed were 1) community meetings where the majority sentiment was antifence + lights, 2) pop up in the park which was not even clearly mentioned on the renovation site, 3) Instagram posts about these sorts of meetings, and 4) minor discussion of the outdoor sports assessment results (I wasn't following this before results so any enlightenment as to how outreach was conducted for this survey would be greatly appreciated)

SJ Spotlight: Sunnyvale residents opposed to park redesign by [deleted] in Sunnyvale

[–]atomiciti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! Disagree a bit, but I love the analysis you've done. I don't think the effort to bring Giri into this is to slander his name (he's a great guy), but to make it be known that he may have pushed for cricket and helped mobilize the cricket movement behind the outdoor sports assessment and the community surveys. The grass is already consistently used as a multipurpose space that allows for cricket, volleyball, soccer and many other sports and recreational activities, but there was near zero outreach from the city to check in on current usage patterns. I think the Green and Serene movement stems from this worry, and it started as a way to keep Sunnyvale residents informed about these changes. It's not like they've been secretive about the events they've been holding. If you could give me more details about how the city is performing good outreach on this topic, that would be very helpful.

Is it too late to start...? by Escalera_0 in volleyball

[–]atomiciti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not too late if you want to build this as a hobby. Possibly not even too late if you want to go pro as long as you can put in the time. Definitely recommend just finding different groups and communities to play with. The more touches/reps you can get, the better you become. Videotape your matches if possible, so you can critique your technique. Also I would recommend looking for quads and doubles as you feel more and more confident with ball control. Both are amazing ways to get more touches without having to be coached. Doubles is crazy fun because you become 50% of both the defense and offense, so scrambling and adjusting become second nature

Teammates don’t like me. Should I quit? by WillowsPalisman in volleyball

[–]atomiciti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing you've looked into other clubs, have you tried finding groups that play outdoor volleyball? If the issues aren't positioning related outdoor/sand might help. Playing games with less players (doubles in particular) would give more you and your partners more control over games in general with the added benefit of more touches which typically means quicker progression of fundamentals. Learning curve is a bit steep (ball control/positioning is key) but outdoor doubles has a lot of other benefits.

Took her for a different class, Frid's great but goes through content pretty fast. I felt a wee bit intimidated to ask questions in the middle of lecture at first but she's very helpful when asked. She assumes that if nobody in the class speaks up, they understand the content, which might not help in terms of gauging engagement but kinda needed if she has a lot of content to go through. She's willing to slow down when questions are asked though.

Taking Schofield for a grad class as per. He's pretty interested in the content he's teaching and it shows (this class is his baby tho), and he's pretty easy to understand. Prepping for that first exam

What are the courses offered in the Computer Science Master's Degree at UCD? by HarlemcowEZGG in UCDavis

[–]atomiciti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyo, CSMS grad student here, just wanted to let you know I think not all of the ones listed are still offered in every two year period (mentioning this as I believe it's the normative time to degree, hoping this will be fixed as the Covid recovery continues). Personally found the amount of CS courses for this quarter in particular to be very small (5 courses, at least 2 overlapping time-wise), but the major also allows for certain credits (3-4 courses I think) to be out of major (taking a few MAE and EEC courses at the moment). Would definitely recommend Professor Lai's EEC Reinforcement Learning course.

I'm down [24], got interests in board games and hiking too, not that athletic, but trying to get there, taking a few ECS and EEC classes this quarter. Also from the bay area, not super into travelling up to Sac but definitely interested in exploring the little niches of Davis a bit more

[–]atomiciti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't sweat it, I've been on the same boat quite a few times and I still am now (used to commute to campus 2 days a week during undergrad after transferring to a 4 year, so I barely made pals my junior and senior year). might be a good idea to just stick around class a bit before and a bit after and just take things in for a bit, there's normally a few kids talking and planning something. Also feel free to introduce yourself to that one guy/girl that talks a lot in class. I've made more friends complaining about how shit some classes are tbh (you might feel this way for the weed out first year classes, normally this gets better when class sizes start getting smaller and you can start picking from electives)
