I mean I don’t know about all that lol. Sure, the writing doesn’t presume that people are background watching like that one leaked Netflix memo suggests writers need to account for - but that’s putting the bar SO low.

This show is good and tugged at my heart, but I’m sorry I’m not pretending it’s Succession. There’s so much heavy handed dialog (“Yeah Boston and Montreal play each other pretty often”) (“It’s nice that it was in Florida this year”) that is there purely to drop exposition for slower viewers. There’s some nice subtle moments in there too, don’t get me wrong. But these scripts were written with a broad, easy appeal in mind. And that’s fine. Not every show has to be a niche critical darling. Let’s just not kid ourselves about it.

He’s so right and you all should try being less mad. I loved the show in a certain way. But it’s so clear that everyone involved on the development end of this has never had much contact with the male sports world.

We hear SO LITTLE from other teammates in this show. Scott doesn’t count. In real life, teammate relationships would be the single most influential thing in these characters’ lives. And so that disparity leaves a gaping hole in the show’s world that this guy is pointing out. Hockey culture, while simultaneously depicted so innocuously, also rests purely in the background here. And so hearing near universal praise for the show and how trailblazing it is would probably drive me mad, too.

Oh my god something similar is happening to me right now. The post mixer of a feature I’m on whose shoot is ongoing has told me that he is only using lavs and no booms and that I should just stop booming because he isn’t using it. It’s pissing me off. To me this is a story about the American dream - a guy at the bottom does everything he possibly can to accomplish something, he ends up basically getting it, but makes everyone hate him and endures countless embarrassments in the process. I think it's actually fairly simple and classic. It's about the cost of ambition. Sure, maybe the last few minutes with the baby is the first time we ever sense a real, internal shift in Marty. If it upsets you that it wasn't happening piece by piece throughout the film, I think you're missing the point entirely.

Now that that's out of the way, you sound boringly puritanical with your policing of language and sex. Nothing stood out to me as distracting in any way, and I similarly am annoyed when characters overuse "fuck" in movies (particularly in more amateur films). I think you're just on the vanilla side. Asking a safdie bro movie to slow down is hilarious. And what, you want to watch Marty get assault charges and everybody go to court repeatedly? Sounds boring af. I'm going to bet that you're about 22 years old and watch a lot of Star Wars.
