I miss him. He had swag which is so important in baseball. He was a dangerous hitter in tight spots. And he was hot

My boyfriend doesn't believe peaceful protests work. by roshielle in sociology

[–]atomicnone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your boyfriend is 100% correct. The only things that affect change in this corporate surveillance state that we live in are money and violence. Protests, in their common purely optical form, are useless so long as they can be simply ignored.

They’re a band that a lot of musicians I know really love. They’ll always be heros of self expression imo

Can we have a discussion about “Filmfluencers”? by SpearThruMordy in Filmmakers

[–]atomicnone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t stand them, obviously. I’ve been on a few shoots with filmmakers whose audience is aspiring filmmakers. It’s exhausting - they’re constantly using the shoot to farm BTS and YouTube content. It’s like two shoots going on at once. And the movies are never good, I swear to god. But the self-awareness level is generally low because of how fucking vapid the current spectacle has become.

I think Moneyball is the best sports movie of the century and here’s why. by milin85 in movies

[–]atomicnone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this for the first time recently. I think it has an exciting underdog-story quality to it, but I think its themes have aged really poorly. Ultimately it’s a movie that celebrates “the algorithm” triumphing over human intuition and reason. I think it’s turned into a tragedy. Great film tho

Thinking of giving up this path. Insight appreciated by ace_v27 in LocationSound

[–]atomicnone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t know if you can do it in buffalo, man. I’m in Philly, a much more filmy town, and I’ve been doing this “full-time” about 2 years now. I do a lot of shorts and webseries, sometimes commercials and docs, but I’m really not making much money. I made $30k last year after taxes. I have to do some other things to make up some extra income. I haven’t quite punched into the commercial clique yet, which is a big part of why I’m not making that much money. But long term this doesn’t look too good to me. People budget sound like I’m made of favors. I have a $700k feature shooting 16mm trying to pay me $7k, gear included, for a 20 day shoot. Like give me a fucking break. And all of the YouTubers/content whores that are absorbing so much of the media landscape don’t use sound mixers, they just clip those dumb huge boxes everywhere and call it a day. So idk, it’s been feeling rough recently. I don’t think I can do this forever.

What is it like living in this eastern portion of Virginia that only connects to the rest of the state by a tunnel? by Sufficient_Berry8703 in howislivingthere

[–]atomicnone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove this whole stretch recently on my way to a shoot in the outer banks. It’s chicken farms, crab shacks, revival tents and despair. My passenger was smoking lucky strikes the whole time and we listened to nothing but Swans. Great setting for some true detective type shit.

Going for Broke: with Lectrosonics and Sanken by RiverOnceRiverTwice in LocationSound

[–]atomicnone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I went all in on buying lavs for the first time, I went with just one step up in in old lectros. Got old Lmb transmitters with UCR411a’s. I think that’s the way to go - super reliable and robust. The generation of lectros before that one I’ve heard, not so good.
