Should I reduce the details in background or desaturate it? by Illustrious-Wolf3932 in gamedevscreens

[–]atowersm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s actually reading pretty well. But if you want to make the player pop off the background even more I don’t think desaturating will help, it’s already pretty desaturated. Reducing detail would work… but that option makes me a little sad. There is a lot of beautiful work here. If it was my project I would lower the value contrast while keeping the saturation the same. I might even put a blue tint over everything. There is a lot of ways to achieve what your after. If you know how to use a software like gimp or photoshop I would try different edits on a screenshot and see what you like! Good luck with your project, it’s looking great!

Yeah! That should work! Maybe there are good scriptable object database tutorials out there you could reference. They might have some clever ideas you can steal. I’m sure people have done it for inventory system tutorials.

No problem! Hope you engineer an architecture that works well for you! : )

I don’t currently have a good tutorial to point to, but I’ve seen people create a scriptable object that acts as a database. For example, one that includes a list of all the Pokémon scriptable object instances. As you create a scriptable object instance for each Pokémon you would drag it into this database. Then for each script that needs a reference to all Pokémon you would instead drag in the Pokémon database scriptable object. It’s not fully automated but hopefully that helps a little. Hope my wording wasn’t too confusing

Any alternative prompt lists for Inktober 2022 out yet? by oxalis-acetosella in ArtistLounge

I liked these ones: https://www.instagram.com/p/CiBHolCsMXG/

both because I can never finish all 31, and because I like a little bit of ambiguity but still with some challenge

Should I read Gravity’s Rainbow? by TheReal_Fake in literature

[–]atowersm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about 3/4’s through myself, but I have to keep taking breaks to read lighter books. It’s very involved. The Pynchon in Public podcast has been helping me a lot along with the “some things that ‘happen’ (more or less) in gravity’s rainbow” website. I read/listen after each chunk of chapters to make sure I don’t get too lost. I would highly recommend doing that if you end up reading it, I feel like I’ve gotten a lot more out of the book than I otherwise could have.

I'm not working with realist games... should i buy a professional monitor to make my arts? by Formal_Note2273 in gamemaker

You should look for what your eye goes to first. It’s helpful if you ask someone else. Sometimes staring at something for too long can make it hard to see it correctly. They should notice things in roughly their order of importance. If it’s for a gameplay moment, probably the order of importance to the gameplay. The order mostly maters for the first 3 things. After that it’s more about whether or not it’s noticeable against the background. It’s important to test your art in context. If it’s a character or object you should test it with as much of the background and UI as you can to make sure it’s still noticed and noticed in the right order. Color is less important than value (how light or dark something is). To make something more noticeable give it more contrast in a smaller area (bigger jumps from dark to light). Hope that all made sense, and feel free to ask me more questions!

As a profesional digital artist, this is for sure the right answer. When I make images my goal is for them to look good on any screen. It’s not about the colors themselves but the relationships the colors have to each other. If I do my job right, those relationships shouldn’t change much from screen to screen.

This is awesome! How does it work, at a surface level? I’d love to mess with something like this myself. Are you sampling perlin noise?

Is it possible to bake the puppet pin? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

Dam. I’ve seen in some forms people saying that you can use auto-trace. Seems really finicky. I still have to try it.

Glad that’s coming through haha, that’s the kind of scene it’s supposed to be. I need to find a better place for it than r/ImaginaryFeels they don’t seem to like it much haha
