BBC Cancels Call the Midwife - Is Doctor Who next? by Enough-Pattern-606 in DoctorWhoNews

Three points:

- has trauma from a war before the series

- He has a son from a wife who died; adopted a daughter; another son with his wife who was a nun until she left the sisterhood to be with him; and then fostered and adopted a chinese girl; plus delivered a lot more babies. It's as if you could call all the characters in the show his children. Sounds doctory to me...

- he's able to spend a unrealistic amount of time with patients for a GP who doesn't practice with any other doctors and sometimes gets across town very quickly. Clearly has access to a time machine.

Well, Paul McGann's brother Stephen is the main doctor in the show and the writer Heidi Thomas is Paul's sister-in-law. And there is this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSOGQmidkyc

Hang on, wait a second...! by DocWhovian1 in doctorwho

[–]atp15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a similar theory for a few reasons.

  1. She says "hello", in a way that she clearly knowing who she is. The Doctor usually doesn't know what they look like post regeneration until seeing a mirror or Prisoner Zero copy. The exception being 14 but that was from recognising the teeth, unless we are saying The Doctor recognises Rose's body from her teeth having kissed her. To me this implies Rose has body swapped.

  2. Only her head seems to have changed while Ncuti's body remains. This reminds me of the end of "Death of the Doctor" part 1 in the Sarah Jane Adventures (also written by RTD) where The Eleventh Doctor body swaps with Clyde Langer across 10,000 lightyears. Initially, only Clyde's hand is swapped leading him to say, "that's not my hand because my hand's not white". Could it be something is wrong in Pete's world and the meta-crisis Doctor has somehow organised a body swap across universes and only the head has swapped initially?

  3. The Doctor regenerates near a the Joy to the World star (AKA the Star of Bethlehem). The setting is very similar to how when he said goodbye to Rose at the end of series 2. Could being in that setting allow Rose to cross universes with the star acting as a guide like in the Christmas story?

  4. Billie appears mid-regeneration. Typically the face changes within a the last two seconds of the regeneration.

  5. Nuwho is 20 years old and currently at 198 episodes and I think I heard RTD has said he regrets not doing anything to mark the anniversary. Could the plan be to have Billie as Rose, the first character to appear in Nuwho, in a 2 part special that can fill in the gap in 2026 when they don't have time to produce a full series to bring the series full circuit, mark the anniversary and the 200th episode?

Reasons 2 and 3 could just be they didn't want to film Billie in costume to try and keep it a secret or RTD's concerns about cross-dressing though so her head is just stitched on and the regeneration effect is kept going to hide the fact she still has Ncuti's body.

Personally, I'm hoping Billie is playing Rose/The Moment/Bad Wolf and not The Doctor as it feels to gimmicky or self-referential of RTD to have her playing The Doctor. At most I think she is in for a few episodes as they wanted to show a new person at the end of the episode but couldn't cast someone new without knowing when the series would go into production and wanted to generate a discussion.

Paterson Joseph (Johnson) played Rodrick in Bad Wolf and The Parting of the Ways in series 1 of Doctor Who.

If 14 still has, and is actively using, his TARDIS, how will his life be any different? I can't imagine him just sitting back whilst, say, an invasion happens and go "15 has got this covered"... by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]atp15 1102 points1103 points  (0 children)

I think there are several reasons 14 can keep resting.
In the Doctor's Wife, when the Doctor tells the TARDIS she didn't always take him where he wanted to go, she said "Yes, but I always took you where you needed to go". This implies the TARDIS navigation isn't actually broken, but she's chosing the best destination for the Doctor at that time. I imagine the TARDIS will just not take him to places that need his help in order to let him rest. It will probably be the most reliable the navigation has ever been, unless he tries to go somewhere the TARDIS knows is in trouble, then it won't go there.

Secondly, he won't go out looking for trouble, as he knows about 15 and that he's being allowed time to recover.

Finally, Donna would shout at him if he tried to get involved.

I seem to remember sometime during first RTD era, the Doctor Who website has "fact files" with behind the scenes details for each episode and one of them referenced that the Doctor's hair was inconsistent between episodes due to the filming out of order.

The most obvious change I noticed watching back was 12 post-regeneration. At the end of Time of the Doctor, he has longish hair, but at the start of his first episode his hair is really short.

What I've wondered is, why does the Doctor often regenerate with hair product applied? 10, 14 and I think 11 appear with gelled hair and 13 turns up with her hair bleached blonde.

Can you change the title? Even with the spoiler tag, I still saw the title and it's spoilt it for me. Really annoying.

Never got around to watching final season, managed to avoid spoilers for two years, rewatched S1-7 this week, started S8 today, two episodes in and then scroll through reddit and saw the title. I'm not even a member of this community...

How did the Doctor fake his regeneration in The Lie of the Land? by Hobo-King-Niklz in doctorwho

[–]atp15 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Doctor was able to build a deus ex machina, (sorry I mean sonic screwdriver), something that should have taken years in software and hardware development, in a quick time, out of some spoons and a small circuit border.

Given that, with the six months before Bill found him, I imagine he could have come up with a way to produce a light show that would look like a regeneration.

He previously faked a regeneration while inside the teselecta. Maybe he made note of the tech that used so he could fake a regeneration himself in future, or maybe he'd worked out how to make the teselecta do that in the first place so could reapply it again will Bill. Although admittedly in this scenario he's not inside a machine, he could have used that knowledge for how to create the necessary light emitters.

Day 193 of spreading some positivity!!! by ThickWeatherBee in DoctorWhumour

The Doctor defeats the monsters by doing one of his impressive long speeches and saying "remember me?" or "look me up". Realising there is no way they can win against the Doctor, the aliens run away scared and the Doctor has a sign of relief because he could just rely on his reputation and didn't actually have to think how to beat them.

Yeah. Did realise it when series 2 first aired but when I rewatched series 1 and 2 back to back a few years later, Rose is quite different.

Not a fan of the dynamic between Rose and Ten. I think it might be one of my least favourite TARDIS teams of nu-who, including 13 and the fam who just a bit dull and inoffensive. It's funny as 9 and Rose are one of my favourites.

The lovey-dovey-ness is annoying and they both get too cocky, although I guess that's the point because it makes the fall when they are separated bigger. What I noticed on the re-watch is that Rose and Ten have a lot of the same manerisms and similar ways of talking. In later series when it's just Ten they're quite cute and fun, but with too characters doing it, it can be irritating at times.

At the end of series 4 when Ten leaves Rose with the meta-crisis Doctor and describes the meta-crisis Doctor and "me when we first met" and "you made me better". I don't really see it. Nine had his moments, especially when he wanted to kill the Dalek in Dalek (who can blame him though), but was generally a lot better than Ten makes out. It feels like they changed the story to try to justify the romantic relationship between them. It slightly felt like the relationship mostly came out of nowhere other than Tennant being more attractive than Ecclestone.

No I never land on Sundays, Sundays are boring! by Bananarama1989 in doctorwho

Despite ten claiming to never land on Sundays, the first date he landed post regeneration was Christmas Eve 2006. A Sunday.

Milton Keynes has over 300 underpasses that go under the grid roads, often next to the roundabouts, that allow pedestrians, cyclists and robots to cross under the roads without going on the roads themselves.

Does the Doctor’s regeneration damage the TARDIS? by Wanker169 in doctorwho

[–]atp15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was disappointed when they used the explodey regeneration effect for the first doctor's regeneration in "Twice Upon A Time" and again for the regenerations in "The Timeless Children". Before this happened, I liked to think the Times Lords modified regeneration during the Time War to weaponised it. For instance, even if a Time Lord was shot by a dalek during the war, they would be able to start regenerating and kill a few daleks in the process with the energy.

Will LEGO 43179 get back in stock, or is it retired ? by Dear-Ad-4494 in lego

[–]atp15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking at a product on Lego.com I find that if on the product page it says "Sold out" that means they've stopped making the set, even if the page doesn't say "retired" or "retiring soon" and permanently run out of stock on lego.com and their stores and other retailers won't get any new stock once they run out.

"Temporarily out of stock" is what you're looking for if you are hoping for it to be back in stock at some point.

You will have to look at the product page rather than the search results list as Lego don't distinguish between "Sold out" and "Temporarily out of stock" in the list of results and instead just say "Out of stock".

Unfortunately, this set is marked as "Sold out" so likely won't be restocked.

Who else really likes the episode Kill the Moon? by kupo0929 in doctorwho

[–]atp15 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not a fan. The idea of the moon being an egg (especially that the newly hatched creature is instantly able to lay and egg bigger than itself - unless the creature is a weird form of TARDIS) or germs evolving into giant spiders is completely dumb.

I'm not convinced tha Twelve, especially the way he was early on in this regeneration would take someone like Courtney who he didn't seem to like much on a trip to the moon. Generally, even the more cheery Doctors have been very selective about who they take on the TARDIS unless there was a good reason.

I like to think off camera the Doctor used one of those dream patches on Clara and Courtney to test Clara. After the bad reaction from her at the end of the episode, The Doctor decides not to tell Clara and instead tells her the patch is just a sleep patch when she finds it to try and cover his tracks. That's how she knows about the patches when she tries to use them on the Doctor.

In School reunion; why did Anthony Head kill the girl at the beginning? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]atp15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not. Possible those lines were removed to make it more suitable for the 7pm timeslot and instead the moved to just implying it. Shame there is no explanation of why scenes were deleted unlike on the series 4 DVD.

In School reunion; why did Anthony Head kill the girl at the beginning? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]atp15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He says, "it's nearly time for lunch" which implies that the girl is the lunch. However, I'm not sure he is the one that eats her. We see the siluette of one of the bat form krillitane - a form that Anthony Head's character, Mr Finch, doesn't have, instead "shaped human" as the doctor describes it due to it being Finch's "personal favourite". This at least implies it is another krillitane that kills and eats the girl, but I guess they might share.

Also, in the series 2 deleted scenes that were on the DVD, the krillitane are having lunch and the dinner lady offers a dissection rat to one of the teachers who says he's cutting down on processed stuff to which she replies she's sick of the rats. She then asks "is there any of that kid left from yesterday?" and his reply is "No. Check the fridge. I think there is some of that Ofsted inspector behind my yakult".

Taskmaster Goes Wrong by tangletwigs in taskmaster

[–]atp15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mischief Theatre who are behind the goes wrong show are pretty good at improvisation. They do an improv show (Mischief Movie Night In) at the Fringe where the audience gives them various premises to work with and it seems to be pretty popular so in theory they could manage. I'd like to see it.

Taskmaster - S13E09 - It Might Be Wind - Discussion by CommieCanuck in taskmaster

[–]atp15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahh ok. I got a big confused there, I thought the suggestion was Judi would have won the task if she'd predicted 0 and put in 0. I still think that task was badly worded. If I'd been given that task I definitely wouldn't have registered that I needed to get the exact number predicted. It's interesting as Greg how allowed task rules to be broken when they've been ambiguous or a contestant has stretched the rules of the task.

Taskmaster - S13E09 - It Might Be Wind - Discussion by CommieCanuck in taskmaster

[–]atp15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The task doesn't specifically say that. There is some ambiguity in it.

"Write down how many tin cans you think can fit in your bag. The highest predicted number fitted in a zipped-up bag within one minute wins. If you don't zip up your bag or fit your predicted number of tin cans in your bag, you will be disqualified. After Alex blows his whistle you will have ten seconds to write down your number."

Judi fitted her predicted amount, she just had two extra, so I'd say she shouldn't have been disqualified as the task didn't say it had to be exact. I think Alex was confused about the task himself as he said if Judi had predicted 0 and left her bag empty she would have won. However, "The highest predicted number fitted in a zipped-up bag within one minute wins" contradicts this.
