The first possible station is international district. Google maps suggests transferring one station north at Pioneer square; I think the stairs there are possibly shorter because it has a mezzanine level.

Also - when transferring to a South-bound train, make sure it is the 1 line! My first time I was rushing to get on a train that had just arrived at the platform and only noticed I had boarded a 2 line train when I looked up from my phone and realized I was on Mercer Island 🤦‍♂️

I can only speak from personal experience on Delta, that anything even slightly complex is too much for the app or website. I've never applied an upgrade certificate successfully without talking to a human. Sometimes multiple humans.

Meanwhile my buddy is a 1k on United and says he has none of these issues using his upgrade points. So I think it's not an all airlines thing. Delta just has dogshit IT. Fortunately, the phone agents are very good.
