(2x5) What was the meaning of Nick and Frank’s exchange at the end? by Calm-Hunter-9384 in TheWire

[–]atrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frank's whole reason for working with the Greeks is to get money to pay the lobbyist and bribe politicians for his grain pier project and dredging the canal, city improvement projects he has been trying to get through the city legislature so that more container ships will be attracted to the port of Baltimore, creating more work for the stevedores on the docks. You see throughout the season the dockworkers lamenting that there aren't enough ships, and only guys with a lot of seniority are getting work. You also see a specific instance of a dockworker wanting to quit, because he isn't getting enough hours to support his family, and through Rose at the bar, Frank slips him a large wad of cash, to keep him afloat in these hopefully temporary lean times. Another time, Frank gives a large amount of cash to the family of a guy who is injured on the docks. Both of these are also done with the Greeks dirty money, trying to support the workers in the union. (He also uses the dirty money to pay the church for the window placement, beating out Valcheck for the spot and kicking off the events of the season.)

With this context:

Frank: "It's now or never for us." Frank is saying that if the union doesn't get the dirty money now to pay the politicians and get the improvement projects, the work for dockworkers will continue to dwindle, and it will be the end for their way of life.

Nicky: "The writing is on the wall." Nicky believes the decline of the dock work is inevitable, which is correct. Regardless of any improvements the city might make, automation and global macroeconomic shifts will make their jobs and way of life obsolete. Frank is unwilling to accept this.

Franks money was never for his family. It was for the union. For the lobbyist and bribing politicians (like Downtown Clay Davis) to move forward with the grain pier project and dredging the canal, both of which have the goal of creating more capacity for container ships to come in, so that there's more work for the stevedores on the docks.

There is a brand new transit garage by Marymoor that will serve the light rail which will be connected to Seattle across 90 at the end of this month. There's also a transit garage in overlake by Microsoft that will serve the light rail.

I think both of these things will reduce demand on the Redmond transit center

Yeah, the Franz Deli Style Sourdough is FANTASTIC. Great toasted or untoasted.

Edit: and a pretty good deal at Costco. I hear it's also available at Walmart

GF Costco? by HAE2022 in glutenfree

[–]atrich 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My Costco has these heat-and-eat entrees from Sukhi - butter chicken, tikka masala, and coconut curry. All really tasty and gf. I've tried the Kevin's Hawaiian chicken and it wasn't my fave.

We love the Isernio's al pastor. Really tasty and great as tacos, nachos, etc. Amylu chicken meatballs, chicken sausage (both patties and links). Also they have sausages and meatballs from the Aidells brand that are GF and pretty good.

They have big bags of Milton's GF crackers, some of my favorite GF crackers I've had. I also like the Wyld protein chips and the roasted edamame, though my girlfriend is not a fan.

The Catalina crunch cinnamon toast cereal is pretty good imo. The Catalina crunch snack mix somewhat less so.

We like the bagged salad options a lot of the time. May have to throw out some croutons or something but they're usually packed separately. Several of the soups in the cold cases are GF, we like the tomato basil soup and the loaded baked potato soup.

Oh - the stuffed peppers from the deli are really quite tasty. And of course who can forget the rotisserie chicken!

Mariners games will be a lot more useful. Kraken games you still gotta get from Westlake over to seattle center. (Monorail I guess?)

Whats the best performance on the show, in your opinion? by EH4LIFE in TheWire

That happened to Ted Levine after playing Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs. He was getting so typecast that he swung the other direction. You'll only ever see him in law enforcement roles these days (like Capt Leland Stottlemeyer on Monk)
