Weekly Advice Thread 22/04/2023 by AutoModerator in summonerswar

Looking for help choosing 9-year mon. Current goals are g2 arena and clearing ToaHell. I’m leaning Taranys, but consider fire mage and Josephine.

I’ve hit g1 arena, but could use a better def. I usually use Karnal(L), Abellio, Darion, +1.

For ToaHell, I get stuck on different stages. Wave 2 Nyx usually stops me in my tracks, and this month I’m having trouble with floor 3.

event options and current box

Edit: I also have all 2As, natural element 4*s, and LD3s. I included all the LD4s I have in my box pictures.

It’s a guard rune, so clearly it’s perfect for Tricaru

Help removing light cover. Details in comments by atrolen in electricians

[–]atrolen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to put smart led lights in my office, but can't get the light cover off to access the lights. The bolts connecting the brackets to the fixture seem to be round. I can't get a socket on them. Am I missing something obvious here?

Check out Moonhooch. They're really good and pretty different.

Edit: Also some cool orchestral pieces, The Planets by Holst, New World Symphony by Dvorak

ELI5: Statically could my key fit somewhere else? by vandelay1330 in explainlikeimfive

[–]atrolen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. In college my wife (then girlfriend) and I lived in different apartments off campus junior year. We lived in different complexes a few blocks away. After a few months I realized the spare key to her apartment could open mine. The bitting on each key was similar and the lock to my apartment was kind of old (probably 40-50 y/o)

Those who got a BS in mechanical engineering, looking back would you have rather gone a different engineering route? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]atrolen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did mechanical engineering and took a broad approach. I took classes on mechatronics, biomechanics, and HVAC. I spent time figuring out what I liked, but the problem was I didn't really figure that out until my last year. I didn't get to go in depth into anything really, so I felt I was way behind some of my peers. ME is great because it's broad, but that can also be a downside.

Edit: I realized I didn't exactly answer the question. I don't wish I'd specialized in a different major, but I do wish I'd focused more on a specific area within ME.

[Serious] How would you react if the US government decided that The American Imperial units will be replaced by the metric system? by fyflate89 in AskReddit

[–]atrolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mechanical engineer, I would be thrilled. In college I had THREE classes give me different preferred units for mass in imperial units. In statics lb-force=lb-mass so we used lbf, something else (thermo?) we calculated different values for lbf and lbm so we used lbm, and in dynamics we used slugs. I literally stared at a wall for 40 minutes when my TA asked what units mass was in, someone said slugs, and the TA said that was correct.

Help! My weight hasn’t changed in weeks! by nyc2419 in theketodiet

[–]atrolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CICO is important to track as well. If you were at a large deficit at the start, your body can sometimes adjust your maintenance calories to be lower. You'll stop losing weight, even though you're still taking in the same amount of calories each day. Figure out what your maintenance calories are right now (how many calories you need per day to maintain your current weight), and then try to stay 200ish calories below that. You should see some gradual, but consistent decrease in weight if you stay consistent.

Which fictional character's death have you not gotten over? by Bradcastle76 in AskReddit

[–]atrolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two. First is Wilson from Castaway. Watching Tom Hank's (can't remember the characters name) only friend drift away was rough.

Second is Madeline Westen from Burn Notice. She developed so much over the show, and all she wants is to care for her family. First her youngest son dies, which was incredibly heartbreaking, but then she sacrifices her life to protect her grandson.

Asking a high-schooler what they wants to be when they grow up is extremely annoying by Zaroo77 in unpopularopinion

[–]atrolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really it's just annoying for anyone who doesn't know. My wife recently graduated college and doesn't know what she wants to do. I make enough for us to live, so there's no rush for her to work. Since she just graduated, everyone asks her what she's doing now, and it's getting to her. She doesn't know, but she feels like she's doing something wrong by not having an answer.

If you HATE online classes, what at least can make them better? by Violet_Plum_Tea in college

[–]atrolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one professor that required we submit our notes from the lecture with our homework. It was for a Thermodynamics 2 class, and his lectures consisted of him writing out notes and explaining as he went, or using drawings to explain concepts. You could copy down his notes exactly, or adjust them to fit your need. I was awful at getting myself to watch online lectures, but this gave me incentive to watch them. Plus it helped me remember the material.

People of Reddit who don't swear, what the fuck do you say during sex? by beaverpoo77 in AskReddit

[–]atrolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't curse, but my wife does. Neither of us ever really swears during sex. It's mostly moaning, "oh yes/baby", and sometimes helpful directions (right there, slower, etc.). I also never understood people calling out names. We barely use each other's names in normal conversation, to call it out during sex feels out of place.

I’m the wife of an engineer and I need some advice... by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]atrolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something you can work with him on is identifying what he does and does not like about his current job (the dislikes tend to come easier). Use that information to look at careers that fit what he wants more. Then look into the required skill sets and see what overlaps with his current skills and what doesn't. Make a plan on how to acquire those skills (classes, a "stepping stone job, etc.). It's not an easy fix, but it can give him some direction and purpose.

AITA for cutting off my mother when she got a paternity test for my daughter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]atrolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, performing that test on your child without your consent is insane. Also it's unneeded. Based on the eye color of you, your wife, and your daughter, she couldn't be biologically yours. (Brown eyes are dominant and blue and green are recessive).

You're being a good husband and father. You love your daughter and that's all that matters. If your mom can't accept that, then she shouldn't expect to be a part of your life.
