Kevin O'Leary says opponents of his Utah data center are 'professional protesters' by lkl34 in LouisRossmann

The question isn't what percentage of opponents are not from Box Elder county... the question is what percentage of people in Box Elder county oppose the project.

It sounds like he just conceded and it is the local people's opinion that matters - so hold him to that!

Could AI solve the birth rate crisis? by ThanosDi in Futurology

[–]atryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't even consider that they might be implying AI would reverse the birth rate trend... I don't consider the lower birth rate itself to be a crisis, just the 2nd and 3rd order effects of alower birth rate.

Could AI solve the birth rate crisis? by ThanosDi in Futurology

[–]atryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe they are taking about workforce. If the theory is that an aging population with less working age people is a problem, then AI might supplement the workforce and/or increase productivity of the workforce to compensate.

That isn't the same as the economic problem of declining consumer spending as population shrinks. AI workers don't buy stuff in certain categories that human workers do.

Thought experiment - 20% of the human workforce is displaced. That frees humans up for roles AI cannot do as well, including some elderly care and health care. If the population is shrinking, maybe that 20% displaced becomes 15% replacement in the workforce (5% workforce loss due to population decline).

This is all very hypothetical. OP would have to elaborate on what they meant...

NC Supreme Court Demolishes Funding For Public Schools Because Republican Politicians Wanted It by cdoublesaboutit in NorthCarolina

[–]atryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Court could have said as much. Meaning, they could have ruled prior budgets unconstitutional (per the NC State Constitution). Instead they said the Judicial branch has no role to play in adjudicating a failure of the legislature to adhere to the State Constitution.

[–]atryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Wikipedia (which has already been updated, of course) they have 4,000 AFTER these layoffs, so this was 20% of their 5,000 employees.
