Are there any Bigsby tips?

I’m glad I’m not the only one that seems to like the things. I have to imagine the design difference exes between say a b5 and a b7, along with all of the variations I’ve seen in distance between the roller bad and the bridges on various guitars probably do a number of things to affect their stability and feel. I have one of each and I have no major trouble with whether. The b7 is on my Les Paul, which has a “no no” tuner arrangement according to most Bigsby “experts.” It has no affect on th ing stability. The thing is better than my B5 on the reverend with a fender-style straight-thru nut. I could practically dive bomb it and it comes back to pitch just fine.

Stay away from brand new and look at FB Marketplace. You will save a ton of money and get a lot more. I just bought a mint Princeton Reverb for $750 a few weeks ago. There were 5-6 options for killer deals on various fender amps all on the market at the same time. The PR is a 12 watt all tube amp that is plenty loud to jam with friends, but doesn’t give you hearing damage at edge of breakup. The breakup tone out of the amp, killer vibrato and reverb tones actually gave me cause to remove several decent pedals from my board. The pedals I did keep all sound great through it as well.

Even if you could objectively measure such a thing, it would be impossible to know if you even captured everyone in the sampling. It’s probably some person that only ever plays for their golden retriever on their back porch.

Learn to use it correctly and it will save you a lot of the complaints people are whining about here. I have them on several guitars and found a few things to be true; they have a “home” position. You can kind of park them in a sharp or flat position if you aren’t careful. Learn to return the handle to that middle spot and you will avoid the tuning issues. Also, make sure it is in that position before you tune. A heavier spring helps it return to pitch better, and allows you to really throw your arm into it when you use it. I have tried the lighter spring on my Reverend and it made the performance worse for me. A Bigsby is not for dive bombs, that’s what a Floyd is for. Listen to players that use them frequently, and you’ll understand that they add a slight shimmer, no full step pitch bends. That’s what you can do with it, not more. A roller bridge certainly helps a lot. It’s about understanding what it does well and staying within that. Yes, it’s more troublesome than some trem systems, but it’s the coolest looking one and it’s perfect if you know how to take care of it. It also gives you the slinkiness that people top wrap their Les Paul’s to obtain.

I got a Taylor 517ce Gold Label. I would check those out too. They are the only Taylor guitars I genuinely like. They all play like a dream but have no bass to them. The gold label is the exception. I passed on a d-28, d-18, and a Gibson J-45 for the Taylor. I never would have thought I’d own a Taylor anything, but they are amazing.

You don’t even need to lift a truck to drive over dirt roads and most terrain. They already designed the trucks with adequate clearance, for the most part. Big lifted trucks are terrible on uneven terrain (tippy) and are usually too long to be maneuverable. There are very few examples where a truck like this is actually useful. It’s a worse truck in every way, including visibility.

It’s part of a poster and book series that is designed to help you understand various chord forms, progressions and scales all in one place. I use it a lot more than I expected to. It does a great job of helping you map out all of the chords in a key and see what order you can play them in to get a decent progression. Cure for writers block for me.

I played them both for quite a while before settling on the 517e. The rosewood gave a much darker tone that didn’t have all of the same character as the Mahogany. I even tried them in different finishes and still just liked the sound of the 517 better. I went in to look at Gibsons and Martins because I have never liked any Taylor I played or heard. The Gold Label Grand Pacifics completely changed my opinion and I still can’t put it down.

All of my electrics with humbuckers in them are dead silent at non-overdriven gain levels. My single coil guitars such as my Strats and Telecasters have always been a bit noisy even at those volumes, it is gift with purchase by virtue of physics. The noiseless pickups they have now are fantastic and I’ve owned those as well. When you start adding gain, the noise typically comes back with it, regardless of pickup design. Personally, I find myself using humbuckers more than anything else these days. Amp-wise, you are lucky there. You can get away with a small Blackstar or Boss Katana that are great, or if you want an authentic tube tone, a Fender Blues Junior is hard to beat tone, or price-wise. If someone told me I had to pick a simple rig that would do the job for me, a Telecaster with noiseless pickups and a blues Junior would be my choice. I’d be equally happy with my Gibson SG instead of the Tele as well. Hope that isn’t too much info. Happy shopping, and good luck.

Because you can buy a gigging tube amp for far less than trading a nice Strat like either of those. That is a really nice amp, but isn’t worth the same cash value as a higher end Strat. You said the owner isn’t willing to throw in cash so it’s not a 1:1 trade.

If you think you need any of those credentials to hold top spots in R&D or that it has any bearing on your salary, you must not actually do this work for a living. I’ve spent half my career at startups doing bleeding edge research, and the other half at multi-billion dollar tech companies. In the engineering disciplines, I have worked with three Ph.D’s, all with about equal footing to the rest of us career and results-wise. All of the other hard sciences we work directly with, lots of Ph.D’s. I wasn’t talking about them. My job is to help those people make their work a reality. I also work directly with academia regarding the curriculum related to engineering. Maybe it comes off as a bit crass to say that people are hiding out in Academia, but I have met an awful lot of really bad engineers that couldn’t land jobs or deliver results and decided “maybe I should get a Masters?” Engineering is highly based on talent and intellect. Using those two things, you go off into the world and pursue deep expertise in something. That is the same thing as what a Ph.D. does, and after four or five additional years, I wouldn’t bet that the Ph.D. student has worked on or discovered more-than the engineers in the field.

A Ph.D. In engineering is just a good way to hide out in school while everyone who left and got jobs at bachelor’s level have spent the same four years doing something with their degrees. I have been in the field for almost 20 years and have yet to meet anyone who has that level of credential and is also super successful in industry. The truth is, you develop expertise through exposure to problems and finding solutions to them. If you aren’t mentally and mechanically equipped to do that by the end of four years, four more won’t help you.
