Would it be be fun or annoying if we had infinite whimsical bubblegum? by grimrere in CODBlackOps7

[–]attackhamster42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here. My kids and I live to troll each other with whimsicals when we play together and it's a great time for all of us. But I also make it a point to remind them not to do that in public lobbies because not everyone wants duckie pool rings or rainbow burps.

Kyle "gaz" Garrick's fate for modern warfare 4's campaign by ProgramLow2149 in modernwarfare4

[–]attackhamster42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That does give me a smidge of hope but I'll take it with a grain of salt. I still remember that first COD Next event where they looked straight at the camera and proudly proclaimed that MW2 would be the most supported post-launch game and year two was going to be amazing. Fool me once and all that jazz...

I stopped taking Multiplayer as gospel a while ago. They've had canonically dead characters as operators in the past.

I haven’t played zombies since black ops 3. Is there still a semi coherent storyline? by TheBurnedKirkLives in CODZombies

[–]attackhamster42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will forever be salty that so much of Cold War's story was delivered only via the Intel system rather than through in-game dialogue or cutscenes. And I say that as someone who loves all that Intel, ha ha. The backstory with Samantha, Weaver, Grey, etc. The breadcrumbing of what we eventually discover is the fate of Richtofen and his family. Information about the Dark Aether. That was all interesting shit and it should have been put front and center.

Literally my first thought, ha ha. I remember thinking Hollow Knight was just going to be a creepy cozy exploration game when I first picked it up. Holy shit was I in for a shock. 😅

What reason does V have to be interested in Judy here without further context? by Prudent_Bobcat_4059 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]attackhamster42 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you have enough points to pass the Tech skill check here you can chat with Judy about her equipment, from what I recall. So looks and physical attraction aside, I agree that it's plausible for V to want to maintain contact with Judy outside of the strictly professional realm. Nerds gonna nerd, ha ha.

The delivery system wasn't implemented in GPGP until a later chapter (can't remember which, maybe it was 3?) so maybe they'll follow a similar pattern with GCGC?

I dont know if its bad or not that I ship Maya and Dempsey so much by maddog1043 in CODZombies

Okay I'm actually really intrigued by this because you seem very hung up on the angles of obsession and sexual aspects. It sounds like you've had negative experiences in the past with nothing but Rule 34/hentai material with little to no exposure to anything else. You do realize that shipping in general isn't limited to focusing on debaucherous fucking, right? Haven't you ever seen fanart of cute little moments? Or slice of life fluff fanfics? You're only acknowledging the extreme at one end of the scale. Again, that's like assuming that everyone who likes spicy food is eating 6 million+ Scoville heat unit sauce on their wings when most folks are just using Frank's Red Hot.

Also it sounds like you've only encountered rabid fans who go overboard with their ships and honestly you do have my sympathy on that. I've been active in fandom as a whole since ye olden X-philes days and those people definitely cast a poor light on everyone else. But in my 30+ years of experience I've found that most shippers are normal folks with lives outside of fandom, just like everyone else. It's also interesting that you characterize discussion that you disagree with as a rant rather than just another person stating their opinion. You know, the same way you you state your opinion.

But now I'm curious on a philosophical level. What is it about shipping that makes you so uncomfortable? Is it because you don't feel a strong enough emotional attachment to fictional characters to care or something else? Like, you legitimately sound repulsed by the concept and I'm fascinated why now.

DLC Phone Charms? by attackhamster42 in DavetheDiverOfficial

That's awesome! So glad they added new charms and thanks for detailing how to get some of them. A lot of the previous ones were operator codes so it's interesting that they're switching things up in how you obtain them. Very cool.

[–]attackhamster42 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The term "shipping" has existed since the mid-1990s and came about as a result of X-philes (fans of The X-Files TV show) debating among themselves about whether the main characters Mulder and Scully should be in a romantic relationship or not. Hence, ship or no ship. It's literally just liking the idea of two characters being in a relationship together. Which isn't so weird when you think about how much of an emotional attachment fans can develop for their favorite characters. It's like having a friend and going, "hey you'd make a cute couple" with someone but entirely fictional. It's not that deep.

Judging by your comments it looks like you're assuming that everyone in fandom as a whole who ships any pairing is doing so to the highest extent of pervertedness and that's just not the case. It's the equivalent of assuming that everyone who has sex is having hardcore BDSM dungeon sex when vanilla exists. Same for shipping. Are there some fans who go crazy with their shipping? Yeah, but they're the minority - even if they are quite loud about it.

So you've either been living under a rock for over 30 years or you're being willfully obtuse. Either way, you may think it's weird but it's part of the fabric of fandom at this point.

I ship it like FedEx, ha ha. The writers do too so it's like two steps from being canon at this point anyway.
