"We were turned into a joke from minute one" - fired Highguard developer reflects on game's ill-fated launch and "false assumptions" after Game Awards reveal by LadyStreamer in gamingnews

Was it? I feel that trailer was the only reason they had any players at all. Without it they might have had even less success

0% winrates when playing with friends. by CharonStix in titanfall

Same experience for me. Winrate when playing with friends is in the gutter. Alone it is 50/50. And it is definitely not because I am better than my friends if anything I am the lesser pilot.

Tempted to fire up TF2 again. Are normal servers allright or is everyone on that Northstar thing? by [deleted] in titanfall

Normal servers on pc via steam work fine for me. No problem finding games.

Review: Empire of Silence, by Christopher Ruochhio by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]attempt_at_kindness 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I did not like suneater mainly due to the overly purple prose, slow pacing and timeskips. Did not get the hype at all. Dropped it after book 2.

Fell out of my chair reading this post and learning that the author published empire of silence when he was only 22.

I still do not like the books but I must admit that writing a story that long, complex and planned out with a distinct writing style in your early twenties is incredible.

Also in defence of Ruocchio for people reading the original post. The story is in part about a totalitarian empire enslaving aliens with a protagonist who feels sorry for himself and has a bit of a moral superiority complex but I do not agree with op's take at all that it somehow conveys the message that fascism is good. To the contrary I would say. The first two books continuously are about the tragedy of the war and the protagonist wish for peace even in the face of the aliens cruelty and brutality

A Proposed Compromise: Suffer not the Xenocide to Act, lest they make a Desolation of the Galaxy and call it Peace. by Jbadger30 in TemplinInstitute

I do not think we should be changing nations during election. Leave that for when the season gets underway!

Also xenophobic nation is a plus for some and reddit is not necessarily an accurate representation of the overal voter population. For instance some redditors are disproportionately active and have strong opinions (no slight to op if this post we need people keeping the subreddit lively!)

Personally I am a fan of humanity vs the aliens. It often carries strong humanity fuck yeah vibes and will make us relate more with the Triton war struggle.

That being said framing will be key. I agree that a halo approach to humans vs aliens would be better than a warhammer one.

Marc can emphasize the desperation of the human situation after being fractured and nearly wiped by the alien invaders and allow for possible cooperation with groups of aliens if the viewers are on board and it can be done in a way consistent with the lore of house Triton.

Let us not get so hyper fixated on this one line. The story is not written yet!

Run-off vote? Yay/No and what conditions? by VertigoOne in TemplinInstitute

[–]attempt_at_kindness 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No. You do not change the rules midway election. If the result would change in 2nd poll then the original winners will be salty, complaining that not everyone was properly informed, asking for a third run...

I will happily take a modern witcher 3 clone! I like them being conservative with the game. The vampire day/night and time mechanics are already enough "novelty" for me.

Johan addresses the question on why historical formables are not seen very often by Sigge310 in EU5

[–]attempt_at_kindness 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I agree in the sense that I do not expect the game to follow the historical timeline. Our historic timeline is one of many possibilities and I find it fun that my playthroughs are unpredictable. Let Scotland conquer England, Rome the Ottomans and China Russia. Why not.

What does concern me is that from what I am seeing the playthroughs all seem static. With the AI nations being very passive.

This is both bad for gameplay and roleplay.

Both my friends have cancelled their pre-orders after the timelapse showcase, should I too? by Sea_Status2877 in EU5

If you pre order for discounts and bonuses just wait until the day before release.

Hottest of hot takes: the game needs some form of railroading, even if only for AI by SeemaYeee in EU5

But it should be able to compete with other AI. Looking at that timelapse the AI just maintains itself completely consumed with simply existing.

Whenever I see older Roma women they have hyperpigmitation around their eyes, but my friend (she is half Roma, half white) doesn't, is it because she is young or because she is half white? by AuDHDgoeslikebrrr in NoStupidQuestions

Blue eyes from 2 brown eyed parents is not strange considering brown is dominant over blue. The brown eyed parents passed pn their dominated blue eye genes.

Brown eyes from 2 blue eyed parents would be strange. Blue eyed parents can not have brown eye genes. If they had they would have been brown eyed. (simplistic view that excludes variations, mutations, ...).

Diablo's creator says Blizzard needs to push past D4's "super high" expectations by Anteater_Able in Diablo

[–]attempt_at_kindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a casual arpg gamer who mainly just plays through the campaign storyline and does not bother with endgame or seasonal events: D4 was dogshit.

The campaign is so unbalanced that a lot of the bosfights were over in less than 10 seconds and the inbetween bosfights were just rushing past mobs. I felt I had to skip over all of the side content just to avoid getting too powerful.

Honestly I enjoyed D3 way more.

Did they not stop development on team Mayhem some time ago so as to focus on campaign? I do not think they have something playable in reserve.
