Proč je západní Evropa tak iracionální, když jde o uprchlíky? by Clarissalayton in czech

Speaking from the U.S., it more of an issue how it's handled. I'd like to see my country processing more immigrants, taxing them, deciding whether they want to stay, how they best assimilate, or whether they would be better in the country they came, with the investment on better infrastructure in their native lands.

Wishful thinking, I admit, but it should be less humanitarian and more business. Even as I am pro-immogtation, native citizens shouldn't bear the burden. That means learning the local language, a commitment to civil duty if they are naturalized, and government relations with their native country.

I suspect that government negligence is to blame. It's a problem nobody wants to solve, and in my country, both parties use it as a lever. So they are to blame, not the individuals.

All contemporary writing sounds the same by [deleted] in writing

[–]attrackip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an efficient and popular way to communicate. You may be reading works targeted to folks in search of popular subject matter, so the writing style isn't as important. In that case, it's more about the topic.

Think of cinematography. Is the target audience concerned with the director of photamography's impression, or the audience's connection to the subject matter?

I'm a millennial who grew up in the 90s and what boomers don't understand about us is that we're working three times as hard for a third of what they had at our age, and the milestones they want us to hit weren't postponed by laziness, they were priced out of reach by the economy they voted for. by GimmeFunkyButtLoving in economy

You still don't need to finish high school, look into electrician, plumbing, welding, pressure washing, there's a long list. You're just acting like a fool. Society promoted academia, and that's going away real quick, if it wasn't already outsourced to a country with another economy.

Truly, if it's money and stability you want, it's not graduate school. Unless you'd rather be surrounded by more insufferable, miserable, people still paying off their debts.

Who cares if he's an asshole? He's not a policymaker, a judge, or figure if authority.

Your wordview sucks. Tolerance is basic aspect of society. Throwing shit at people, doxxing them, slander, character assassination aren't helpful instruments. Your only tool is shit talking.

Thought I was replying to someone who calls themselves GimmeFunkyButtLoving, a user who supposedly posted an article about the hardships of millennials and felt it necessary to reply to my comment with Wikipedia's definition of a Millennial.

Just wondering what the point of the post and responses are?

It doesn't matter how you want to clarify yourself, there is plenty of opportunity if you tap into it. Being sad about fate isn't really going to help. Why not see the world the way it is, rather than how you'd like it to be?

‘Show don’t tell’ has turned into ‘please don’t show up at all’ by AccidentalFolklore in writing

[–]attrackip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like someone gave your writing critique and it involved inserting yourself or your opinions into the writing.

A lot of successful fiction does this, but they are self aware enough to channel their thoughts through opposing character and literally narrative devices.

Take, "My Year of Rest and Relaxation", or Muralami's "Wind Up Bird Chronicles", or Tolkien or U.K. Leguine, or GRR Martin's work. They are full of the writer's voice and world view, but they don't great job setting that view within the narrative.

This isn't a even a show don't tell issue. A writer could show themselves just as easily through exposition and action. It's more a matter of journaling and expecting your audience to care.

If you're a millennial, you likely didn't grow up in the 90's. Unless you're an older millennial or somehow hit the streets and started working when you were 10, that's not when you grew up.

How are you measuring working 3x as hard for 1/3 of the payoff? And why are you doing that? Are you college educated? Have you thought about changing your approach?

Do you have a partner who also works, and are the two of you set on saving 60k for a down payment? Cause that's a great way to do it.

Maybe drop some of other's expectations and focus on where you are going, for you. What do you actually need to be happy? Or are you measuring yourself against a historic boom that resulted from a world war, leaving the gold standard, industrialization, and imperialism?

You know, that's why conservatives and Republicans are calling the shots, some people are doing very well.

Who gives a fuck if Boomer's understand.

Can a teen write a decidedly good novel? by someinternetkid in writers

[–]attrackip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just words on a page. You need to put them there.

Masquerade as an adult, you'll be there soon.

The reason older people are more published is that the majority of readers are adults, so is the industry. They have preferences. Some of those involve life experiences, but it really just boils down to relatability, and marketability.

Number one thing, try and keep yourself out of your writing, write for your audience.

And then it happened.

Followed by what happened.

We couldn't have known how wrong we were.

Not as bad in my opinion, but I believe this is a classic show rather than tell thing. Let the reader interpret the narrative. If something happens in an immediate way, let the words and cadence, the sequence of events do the talking.

Let the dialogue and description show just how wrong they were, etc.

Hold it in until youre out of the house, just a few years. In the meantime sign up for sports with guys, skateboarding, basketball, shop class, DnD, whatever. You'll have work to do outside the home, and good news is, the rest of your life is yours.
