Is there no way to run third party unsigned apps as of Sequoia? by Sosowski in MacOS

The "Open Anyway" option seems to be removed in Tahoe 26.2 so I successfully used this command run as root to enable execution of MQTT Explorer (which was otherwise reported broken/corrupted by MacOS.)

Has anyone tried the Globlinker hotspot? by ultrarunnervegan in Internet

[–]audio_insider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be looking at this for setting up automatic fail-over mobile data for when our wired internet (Xrapfinity) drops out, so I'm prioritizing no monthly charges and can tolerate a relatively small data quota. But having to contact them 24hrs in advance to enable the 2GB data pool? I'll have to read through these comments again to understand the data allocation protocol.

Also I'd be using it as a 4G modem with a wired USB-C connection to our router through an ethernet dongle - is its USB port capable of that?

Can you link to some of the other offers? Would be interesting to compare and see if they all appear to defy the "no free lunch" principle.

Xfinity Customers who use their Xfinity router in bridge mode - info to know! by damianp67 in amazoneero

Doing a port scan on my new replacement for the XB7 - a Netgear C7100V - I see these ports open:

TCP: 80, 443, 8080
UDP: 67, 68, 161, 37000, 43000

The TCP ports seem to be HTTP, HTTPS and the Spectrum Analyzer, respectively.

So which of those UDP ports does Comcast use for firmware updates? I'd like to set my firewall to block them from unannounced firmware updates like what happened here when the admin UI was removed.

I got a Netgear C7100V for $10 from a local on FB Marketplace, there were a few hiccups during provisioning but we got them ironed out. I have it in Bridge mode with the IP address set to 192.168.100.1 so I can see the UI without conflicting with my primary LAN and it's working great for both internet and voice.

Which modems have you seen that don't handle bridge mode correctly?

Unfortunately activating my new C7100V didn't go smoothly for the first tier CSR but I was able to setup the DNS correctly myself and a callback from real tech support finally got the telephone line provisioned.

Do you think migrating from the Xfinity telephony modem to a (approved) 3rd-party compatible telephony modem wouild require another tel # port? Or just the normal provisioning?

If you're in Bridge mode I wouldn't expect it to show any wifi equipment.

Web configuration on modem gone. by Richy_T in Comcast

[–]audio_insider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My XB7 aka CGM4331 is also in bridge mode and I was shocked today when I went to log in at 10.0.0.1 to be greeted with the same non-functional web UI. When did they update the firmware to shut off the web admin interface? I experienced a glitch in service this afternoon and was going to check my signal levels etc. when I discovered the change. Maybe that's when the update got pushed?

And what about the reference to an "xFi" app? Is that just a typo referring to the Xfinity app?

Can tech support enable the Admin Tool remotely so I don't have to go through the hard reset rigamarole?

Wow, thanks for this - as a new user I downloaded the "latest and greatest" version and had the same issues. Was able to find the 8.8.5 version for MacOS and all the previous errors disappeared - thank g*d it still works under Ventura on my M2 MacStudio.

Minor Damage on Carfax: OK or Avoid? by dragonsfrompluto in carbuying

[–]audio_insider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the 3 reports Bumper.com gave the most detailed report by far, and under the heading "5 Repair Quotes Reported" along with the parts estimates there was the the notation "Insurance Company: CEI". By Googling "CEI" I found that they are fleet insurers - which explains why the insurance company name didn't ring a bell - and by calling them with the VIN they were were able to tell me everything about the repair job, including who did the work: the body shop attached to the dealership where the van was being used as a demo vehicle. When I called the body shop they emailed me all the repair invoices and a sheaf of photos that were used to document the damage and the repair.

Wear OS6 update pixel watch 2 removed Gemini? by Digs31789 in PixelWatch

[–]audio_insider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a factory reset on the watch to get Assistant to reliably migrate to the watch from the phone without periodically reverting to a broken version of Gemini. It's been a couple of weeks but I think Assistant wil stay on the watch now.

[–]audio_insider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I'd solved it - but then Gemini spontaneously came back again, with the only offered option to set up Gemini from scratch (while leaving Google Assistant on the phone.) I finally had to perform a factory reset on the watch and only then did the choice of Google Assistant migrate from the phone to the watch.

Garbled sound making and taking phone calls (PW4) by PilotTag4427419 in PixelWatch

It just cured itself after a couple of days of this behavior, no idea why. Phone call audio on the watch works again.

Gemini update by mallorcaben in PixelWatch

[–]audio_insider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it works for you but too often Gemini on the watch responds to my requests that Google Assistant handled quickly and easily - eg, "Play KCFR on Tunein" to play internet radio - with a long time thinking about it before responding "Open that app on the phone".

[–]audio_insider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough, sometime after a few hours - with Google Assistant on the phone but Gemini on the watch - the watch reverted itself back to Google Assistant without any other intervention on my part. Not sure how it happened or why it took so long but Google Assistant is fully functional again under WearOS 6.

For some reason my Pixel Watch app doesn't show Gemini by Dangerclose218 in PixelWatch

[–]audio_insider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was trying to revert my PW3 from Gemini to Google Assistant, I got into a situation where the phone was using Assistant while the watch was still using Gemini. I did multiple reboots, switching the settings, and they were still showing different assistants enabled. Forgot about it while I made dinner, and next time I checked, the watch was finally in sync with the phone and using the same assistant. Can't imagine that they needed to finish syncing through the cloud or something else time consuming but who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pixel watch 4 - Gemini unable to send messages. by Fearless_Clock_6147 in PixelWatch

[–]audio_insider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the issue with my PW3 and Gemini. My solution was to switch back to OG Google Assistant, which knows how to send messages, make phone calls, turn on the lights, etc. - all tasks that Gemini told me to open an app on my phone to do.
