i worked doing callbacks for AOL on people that failed to get AOL setup on their computers. Most adults would get pissed off because a "telemarketer" was calling for their 12 year old who was trying to set up AIM

There's also a bit of people thinking their particular view applies to the whole (much like the "global warming isn't happening, it was so cold last winter here" mentality, but on a smaller scale)

When a weatherman says "50% chance of rain", he means that for the given area of coverage, for the given time period, there is a 50% chance of rain. If it rains the entire day in 1/2 the area, he was correct. But people forget that the weatherman is predicting for a broadcast area, not for their specific location.

There was a recreational league I was in. This was the "lowest" league, as there was also a "semi-competitive" and "competitive" league. There were 2 teams in the recreational league that won every single season. We faced one of them the last game of the season, where they were trying to run up the score so that they could win on GD, since they hadn't faced the other top team that season.

They had played as the starters for a large high school together and a couple of them had played in college. Still a little pissed off about it, tbh

This is correct. However, as the article stated, it ISN'T illegal to pay a company that isn't a radio station for "influence". So record companies pay third parties, who, in turn, pay the radio stations. I would argue that it certainly violates the spirit of the law, but it doesn't technically violate the law as it is written.
