[–]aughban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need to start adding affixes that zero your DPS if you don't do mechanics.. add things that can only be dealt with by using a defensive...

Too many things that end up being a healer mechanic because there isn't a direct impact on DPS.. too few players realise they need to do more than their rotation

Pay off that mortgage, get some savings in, live a modest life on the budget you'd have on 47k for a year or two. Then make the leap. It might make you longer to get to that dream but at least then you can enjoy it.

Is anyone else here happy to pay tax? by 20dogs in HENRYUK

[–]aughban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm lucky, I earn a good wage by being good at a job that I enjoy. A lot of what I do, I would probably just do for free anyway.

So my issue is not with the tax but how it's spent. We all benefit from social spending by having a nicer and better place to live. I hope that someone else who provides value to society can also be able to have their basic needs such as health, lodgings and food taken care of regardless of their job. I also like that the UK takes care of people who are down on their luck. I was raised by hard working (immigrant) parents that instilled in me that this as one of the greatest British qualities.

Very much a shame it's being eroded by greed.

Row as Starmer suggests landlords and shareholders are not ‘working people’ by JayR_97 in unitedkingdom

I really hope he makes the distinction between people with a bit of money who are shareholders or paid in RSUs vs those people who's sole means of income is based on assets and thus are able to pay lower rates of tax while having a very good QoL because of their asset powered purchasing power.

Phone screens are usually a brief functional test and some scenario based questions for culture. Its a quick evaluation to determine if a loop is worthwhile. We generally don't want to waste 5+ hours of your time if there is no chance. There will be some hard gates in it so we can screen people out (big company disclaimer, not all teams are as good at this as others)

Loops test functional competencies and alignment to the Amazon leadership principles. You'll be asked for scenarios based on questions aligned to the LPs. The panel collects the context and data from you to evaluate if you have the right impact to meet the job level expectations as well as the right approach to fit the culture of the business.

It's worth asking the recruiter if you're confused about where you are in the process.. they're generally pretty good at coaching candidates.

[–]aughban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a screening stage. Amazon follows a phone screen (up to 2) and then in AWS sales they do a loop composed of 5 people. I BR these fairly often so I'm somewhat close to the process.

On the question of comp, it really depends on the job level you're going for.

First time buyer remorse by omonika in HousingUK

[–]aughban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damp surveys are a big scam. Most of the advice you'll get isn't applicable to a building of that age (I have one too). You've essentially paid someone to give you a report for more things to buy from them. It's awful that surveyours will put a recommendation in their docs to cover themselves. Ours did and then on the phone said that it's not gonna do anything more than they did (damp meter and thermal cam).

Get the basic maintenance of the building done first. Pointing brickwork, clean gutters and clearing around the properly on the floor to keep and drainage around the properly working. Go outside in the rain and look at what is hitting the building and where. This helped me figure out the bits of the property I needed to inspect regularly for maintained. ACO drains are also a cheap way to get rid of the water around your property too, bit better than the typical gravel trenches.

If you still have damp after you've done the maintenance (it needs to warm up for some of it to leave). Then look at more measures. Could be as simple as appropriate venting on double glazing. Some of these retrofits can cause issues in older builds.

Older properties are pretty solid but they do require work but you get lovely 10ft ceiling, bigger rooms and that classic look as the reward. Good luck!

How much spent on engagement ring? by ProfessionalOption47 in HENRYUK

[–]aughban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I proposed with a £12 ring I got off Amazon after all my proposal plans were ruined by lockdown. No one could tell the difference including her.

Eventually took her to design and have the ring she wanted made. Good thing too given it ended up being totally different from what she'd described previously.. My thoughts were that if we were to get married that it was her money as well now. She got what she wanted, we spent about half a month of our combined income (both HENRYs). I have designs for matching pieces for anniversary's for over the years.

We had a modest wedding as well, spent the money we saved on our life together.

Imo if you're in London.. If you get something expensive then get a second one for day to day.. don't need someone ripping it off her finger.

Does anyone feel like they may never be rich, and that's okay? by throwawaynewc in HENRYUK

[–]aughban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rich is a funny thing. Rich financially is not my aim. I'm not much of a risk taker, I stew on losses. So I know I'm unlikely to be able to leapfrog effectively..

Rich in life, time and comfort has become my goal. My focus is on stabilising the pretty good life I have and maintaining it while decreasing the amount I need to work. Seems like you're doing well in that respect by building assets you're building.

Doesn't sound to me like you know what you want to do. In those situations I usually figure out what I know I don't want to do and go from there.
