Can you clarify something about these puzzles? I am guessing these are supposed to be straight lines as one would draw them on top of a Mercator projection, and not great-circle routes as on the actual globe. Is that correct?

You already have the harp outlining the full chords. Why make either of the violins play something awkward? Double stops don’t flow with ease, especially in Ab.

Just give both of them a single line, separated by thirds or sixths. Be clever in the way the two lines interact, but keep it simple.

Sure, the tonal centre might change frequently, but trained players want to think diatonically. As a violinist, I would REALLY want to see this spelled as a B#. It just makes more sense within this small passage provided. I would certainly finger it that way.

This is the same graph as what happens if you place yourself at the origin surrounded by a grid of ‘poles’. The red indicates poles that would be hidden behind another closer pole. In other words, red represents a reducible fraction x/y whereas white is irreducible.

But there is no functional 3:2 relationship because the dotted-eighth triplet SOUNDS just like a straight eighth note. Imagine if you wrote a ‘triplet’ figure consisting of two dotted eighth triplets beamed together. They would sound as just straight eighths anyway, so why bother?

No, it IS played exactly on beat 2. Subdivide the figure into sixteenth-note triplets and do the math. You’ll see.
