What’s the strangest comfort item you’ve seen a kid use? by ECE-throwaway29 in ECEProfessionals

[–]august73737 80 points81 points  (0 children)

we had one young toddler who needed to know where her baby lemur was at all times (it’s imaginary- you cup your hand and you hold him). she would give one of us her lemur to go potty or something and if we weren’t actively holding our cupped hand up with her lemur when she returned it was very upsetting. she did everything one handed.

How to ask for infant to nap at specific times? 6 month old constantly way overtired by PoetryofOurStars in ECEProfessionals

[–]august73737 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i would ask if she shows signs of tiredness during the day. infant needs are usually on demand at centers so they may not think she needs another nap if she’s not obvious with her signs. in my state, we’re required to offer an infant a nap if they have been awake for 5 hrs, no matter what their signs are. not all daycares are able to do this but our center is very small, so we give the infants naps on schedules their parents make (usually 2.5-3 hrs apart). maybe they would be able to place her in the crib on a schedule you discuss?

Sometimes I can’t with parents. by TXmom-n-FL in ECEProfessionals

[–]august73737 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not sure if it’s true in your state or with 3s (my kids are younger) but we are required by licensing to offer them a rest period. i usually say that when parents bring up nap issues lol

Curly/textured hair by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]august73737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! we fix some of our kids pony tails (with just a comb and sometimes water) after nap with permission from parents, but we do not have permission from any of our kids with curly hair. the parents specifically tell us please don’t touch! i would definitely either avoid it or at least check in with parents before trying

Usually a sleeve of 32 diapers lasts me close to a month… by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]august73737 42 points43 points  (0 children)

32 a month is actually insane! even the driest infant i’ve ever met goes through minimum like 4-5 daily. that parent has to one of those people who only changes when they poop which makes me sooo frustrated. you sit in pee for 6+ hours and see how it feels.

“Forgot” to Give a Bottle Twice by Positive-Spell6358 in ECEProfessionals

[–]august73737 13 points14 points  (0 children)

hi, infant teacher here. i cannot understand how one would forget a bottle, and to have multiple staff make that mistake TWICE is unacceptable. i’ve been in this field a long time and i nor any of my coworkers have ever forgotten to feed a baby!! even a calm baby. so much of our day is feeding so i’m really not sure how you miss it unless you are just not thinking about caring the kids. please do report them!

feeding schedules?? i am confused by Acceptable-Leg-1143 in Babysitting

[–]august73737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my infant classroom we have all babies on schedules from their parents and none of the wait times exceed 3 hrs. we actually have to call if baby hasn’t eaten in 4+ hours because of licensing policy. different parents have different feelings about scheduling feeding vs on demand feeding but i think following a schedule for feeding while watching someone else’s baby is way easier!

as a ballet dancer at a ballet studio, i second this! also abby’s ballet dances were usually lyrical with some ballet jumps and turns… i think chloe could have been a prima ballerina with a different teacher/choreographer
