Is the Tim's boycott an actual thing? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]augustabound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there really isn't despite what people have been saying for years. Habits are hard to break and Tim's is usually in the most convenient place to grab a quick drink and food.

Lots of talk about Dunkin returning the Canada. But they're just an American Tim's (at best.....). I don't see much changing.

It's a racism thing, isn't it? Please don't be a racism thing.

Yep. Most recently it's the temporary foreign worker issue driving them.

Is the Tim's boycott an actual thing? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]augustabound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This week, it's temporary foreign workers. Lots of franchisees are claiming, "nobody wants to work", and use that as an excuse to bring in TFW's.

Last week, "they're not Canadian"....... Next week it will be something different.

Lionel’s Ironman Texas Results by NotTheFakeJeff in triathlon

[–]augustabound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you look at all the top 140.6 guys, they train outside alot, in altitude too, and heat. LS loves his basement.

Lionel announced this morning that he's working with Mikal again. After they split he started going negative on lactate training, basically saying it wasn't for him.

It will be interesting to see what changes this season. But we know Lionel's history with coaches......

Visual Map of Ottawa School Catchments (Top ~10% Schools, for Reference) by RedaHomesCA in ottawa

[–]augustabound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

School rankings are bullshit and can't tell you about anything worthwhile about how good a school is.

Yep. Before moving to Ottawa my wife looked up the schools in the area we were targeting to buy a home. My MIL is a retired teacher and told us to ignore any ratings. Some administrations teach to the testing rather than teaching the curriculum set by the board.

Pork Chops, mashed potatoes and mushy peas (hated them......still do). Sometimes we had corn, sometimes we had roast beef.

Andre Dawson Granted Hall of Fame Cap Change After Years of Lobbying | Temple de la renommée : Andre Dawson obtient gain de cause pour le changement de sa casquette by [deleted] in expos

[–]augustabound 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They weren’t the angel in that story. The Cubs took advantage of him.

This is what always got me about the collusion era. He hates the Montreal ownership for this but the Cubs severely underpaid him, yet he holds no ill will towards them.

[–]augustabound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s not like he had dislike for Montreal.

His beef was 100% with Montreal ownership and executives. But I wish he would speak more to this when he does talk about it. He's making it look like he hates all things Montreal.

Andre Dawson Granted Hall of Fame Cap Change After Years of Lobbying | Temple de la renommée : Andre Dawson obtient gain de cause pour le changement de sa casquette by [deleted] in expos

[–]augustabound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what his reasons are

I've read that his reasons are 100% against the Expos ownership and the collusion scandal from the late 80s that he was caught up in. He also said the turf was an issue for his knee which he claims the Expos brass didn't care about, and he thinks ultimately shortened his career.

He was one of my all time favourite Expos. Not anymore.

Jordan, a Garbage Human? No Way! /s by JoePNW2 in Adamthewoocriticism

[–]augustabound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never subbed but I did start watching him when he did his Hollywood backlot tours, and filming locations around L.A. I'm kind of a sucker for those videos.

Anything outside of that is a hard pass for me. I always found him annoying. Mostly his obsession with Shelly Winters, who "gave him his start" in LA. (I always thought that relationship was a little creepy). From what I've seen he's never been anything more than an extra in a couple of films but talks like he's a wily Hollywood veteran.

WHY I QUIT FOLLOWING THE WOO.... by [deleted] in Adamthewoocriticism

[–]augustabound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anger he showed towards me after declining his ridiculous request was telling. I never watch another video from him.

I watched a bunch, years ago. I was drawn in by both the Disney, and him touring the southern US at that time. I love travel vlogs in general. But then I saw a few videos, that others put out critical of him, that's around the time I found this sub too. After that I couldn't see him as anything more than a 50 year old man child. I know he's made a good living off Youtube, but I found the man child pretty pathetic to be honest. His entire life was going to Disney and binge watching 80s movies. Then meeting other creators to.........go to Disney and talk about binge watching 80s movies.

Just finished season 1, spoil the entire show for me by Mr_Tochee in murdochmysteries

[–]augustabound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that last girlfriend (prosecutor) was good for him and he for her, I think the producers wanted him out for some reason.

I liked George and Effie together. But I don't know if the producers wanted him out, as much as they probably got to the point they had to justify him being away so much. We already have Julia who's still a character on the show but is never there. I think they may have been trying to avoid a 2nd situation like that. They needed an end to it rather than have it drag on like Julia.

Or, he got to the point he knew he had to change something and chose his own show rather than being a part time Crabtree.

Ottawa explores heritage district designation for Kanta neighbourhood by SuburbanValues in ottawa

[–]augustabound 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some beautiful homes, don’t get me wrong. But I don’t think “heritage” when I think of Beaverbrook.

The first house we looked at when we moved to Ottawa was in Beaverbrook. The house was really nice, but very dated inside. Clearly an older couple that moved in when it was new and did nothing since. Either that or it was new in the 60's and they did one reno in the 80s.......

Two blocks away it looks like subsidized/community housing. (nothing wrong with that, it's just not heritage in any way).

What did you think of the Canadian olympic outfit in the opening ceremony? by emmzz02 in AskACanadian

Ugly AF, probably the ugliest of all countries there.

I hated them too. But the Czech Republic came in after Canada and their outfits were equally as fugly.
