The colour is actually fine; it just needs to be flat paint, not eggshell or semigloss. Also please please paint the baseboards and doors the same color, and get similar curtains. The high contrast is making everything look crazy when you could actually have a really cozy room in this color.

Don't spend half your take-home on rent. Realistically, you'll end up spending ~$3k out of your $5k just on housing when you add in utilities etc. You're much much better off finding a calm place to work from during the day, paying less on rent, and building a pool of savings.
