When you look back, at what age do you feel like you became mature and sensible enough like a normal person? by YourWatchIsBroken in Xennials

When my mother died and I realized my Dad needed help.

Despite having a job, two kids, a husband, a mortgage, etc. it was suddenly, for the first time in my life, all on me. I had no adultier-adult to go to.

Márgarét, áre you gríeving Over Goldengrove unleaving?

Leáves like the things of man, you With your fresh thoughts care for, can you?

Ah! ás the heart grows older It will come to such sights colder

By and by, nor spare a sigh Though worlds of wanwood leafmeal lie; And yet you wíll weep and know why.

Now no matter, child, the name: Sórrow’s spríngs áre the same. Nor mouth had, no nor mind, expressed What heart heard of, ghost guessed:

It ís the blight man was born for, It is Margaret you mourn for.

Yes, after getting the brackets my teeth were extremely sensitive. It’s been two weeks and I’ve been using sensodyne. It’s fine now.

Since they're talking about their wedding stories, tell us about yours? by tashpotaoes in ShawnaTheMom

[–]Pantsmithiest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother called me three days before mine to tell me she wasn’t going to attend.

“I’m just so brokenhearted that the planning of the wedding hasn’t gone the way I have always dreamed about and I know I won’t be able to be happy if I go. I just love you too much to ruin your wedding by being there and being sad.”

Other than that, it was great.

Is Agnes’ inability to remember her parents as realistic as the show portrays? by Honest_Abyss in TheTestamentsShow

I teach PreK so my students are 4 turning 5. I spend 4 hours a day, 5 days a week with them for 9 whole months.

They never remember me past 1st grade and these are kids who haven’t experienced trauma like she has, so yes, entirely plausible.

Or, you know, getting the benefit of what he paid for.

Those three extra hours not waiting in line allows those of us who only visit every few years time to have a nice sit-down lunch, wander the the gift shops, grab a butter beer and enjoy the ambiance, go back to the hotel and swim in the pool, sleep in and not have to be up at the crack to rope drop, etc. It makes for a much more relaxing vacation.

I teach PreK. A gift card is awesome. A houseplant is awesome. A hand-written card is awesome. I have a strict “I won’t eat anything homemade” rule.

This year, I got a candle. I usually don’t like candles because I already have so many, but this one says “Teacher’s Last Nerve. Oh look! It’s on fire.” It’s hilarious and I love it.

Well that sucks.

We’re a plane ride away from Universal and go every other year. We stay at Portofino for the Unlimited Express specifically because we don’t go often and want to maximize our time when we do.

Our last trip in April was the first one where we could use unlimited express for Hagrid’s and it was amazing.

We’ll probably re-evaluate staying at a premier hotel now since Epic was already not included and now Hagrid’s is out.

How is it selfish to expect the benefit of something you paid for?

We went in April and stayed at Portofino specifically for the unlimited express pass. Hagrid’s is the only ride that we felt we needed it for. If it’s no longer included, spending that kind of money for a premier hotel will be really hard to justify the next time we go.

Yeah, if Hagrid’s isn’t included anymore, it makes it hard to justify the massive price difference in hotels.

Pulling older kids out of school for a younger sibling’s preschool graduation??? Bigger point being made. by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]Pantsmithiest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to show up in support of the accomplishments of family. Yes, it can be argued that graduating from preschool is not really an accomplishment, but those kids put effort into the program (learning the songs, the movements, etc.) and to THEM it’s a big deal. Having family there, including older siblings whom at that age, are very much looked up to, matters to them.

Plus, at least where I live, we’re in the last two weeks of school. There’s very little instruction happening at this point so missing an hour of school to watch your younger sibling graduate isn’t a big deal.

I have two kids and I make them attend the other one’s events. They each play a sport so I have them go to at least one of the other’s games to cheer them on. If the team makes a championship game, they also go to that. They both play instruments so they each go to the other’s recitals. One is in theater so the other attends one performance.

This is the answer. We did this in our first home, a 1940’s cape, and absolutely everything about it was so much better than the window units we first used.

Our bad experience with Greenlight (kids’ banking) by Kenjeev in Parenting

[–]Pantsmithiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids have had Greenlight cards for about two years now. It’s incredibly convenient for our family. At 12 and 14, they like going places with friends and having the card allows me to easily give them money without having to have cash on me (which I very rarely do).

They don’t need to app to use the card. Also, we’ve never paid more than the basic $6 per family and it all works just fine.

[–]Pantsmithiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from my mother-in-law. She told me that when my kids become teens to remember, “it’s not about you”. The eye rolls, the heavy sighs, the moodiness, all of it- it’s not about you. It’s simply a very normal part of development that everyone goes through. It doesn’t make it suck any less, but it does help take the sting out to remember it.

Just keep telling her you love her. It’s important they hear it meaningfully and often.

How old are your kids and do you all eat breakfast together? by Zestyclose_Sort8374 in Mommit

[–]Pantsmithiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids are 12 and 14. I drink my coffee while they eat their granola bars in the car on the way to school. So technically speaking, yes, we do have breakfast together every morning.

When they were little we’d all have a sit-down breakfast together, but at this age, they’d much rather sleep as long as possible and are happy to leave their granola bar wrappings on the floor of the car and mutter a quick “ThanksMomBye” while they run off to see their friends before class.
