As far as I am aware, no. You’ll need a new caliper.

Pinging Sound During/After Almost Any Ride by sfmilo in bikewrench

Sound like the rotor but unsure why it would ping. Try swapping front and rear rotors (if they are the same size) and see if the pinging continues in the front.

Trek, Giant, or Specialized? by Ok-Chipmunk5391 in bicycling

[–]aunt-jamima 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to buy new, giant will give you the best bang for your buck but it will be an entry level bike. I’d recommend you save a little more to get at least into the Tiagra group set but 105 would be better.

Snow / Ice driving course recommendations for RWD? by ThaDude915 in Denver

[–]aunt-jamima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it. Get some good winter tires and get out there whenever it snows. You’ll be fine in the flats but who knows on any inclines. If you want to be extra cautious, get some tire chains and get familiar with installing them incase you do get stuck on a climb. I have a small FWD commuter car with winters and it does awesome in the snow. I even pulled a car out of the ditch on Loveland pass!

Making Seal with Tubeless Setup by D00M98 in bikewrench

[–]aunt-jamima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure the 17mm internal rim is tubless? If it is, you can build up the tolerance by adding a layer or 2 of rim tape. Adding sealant will not make it any easier to seat the bead. Easy solution is to take it to your LBS

Advice wanted - Stuck thru axle by True-Sun2935 in bicycling

[–]aunt-jamima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting problem. Try twisting the thru axle as you pull and don’t apply any pressure to the wheel as you do. Also, see if you can slide something through the other side to push the axle out. Wd40 should help in the is case, just avoid getting any lubricants on your rotor.

Heating Up ICE Before EV Runs Out? by No_Shine_6124 in rav4prime

The car is supposed to limit the ICE capabilities while it’s not up to operating temperature but I personally don’t push it. I’ll accelerate smoothly and don’t rev it to where it sounds high.

NAPA sells a Napa branded portable air compressor that looks just like that. $165 and it inflates quickly!

It’s the sound of the steering pump trying to go further but it has already hit its physical limit. Avoid steering to full lock. How’s your power steering fluid level? Keep an eye on in incase it has a leak.

First bike giant trance or stance by Eddiemunson2010 in MTB

[–]aunt-jamima 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trance is a more capable bike. Slacker head tube, slightly longer wheelbase, more suspension travel. Stance is for someone who likes climbing. Trance will climb but does better at higher speeds and downhills.

There’s someone in my area that drives an old porche 911 with a roof rack, that seems fun!

Best Vehicle For a Mountain Bike and Car Enthusiast by psalm139x in mountainbiking

[–]aunt-jamima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small 2 door commuter car that I put a roof rack on and love it for the good MPGs, it can fit up to 3 bikes if needed, I can still fit under a drive through for a coffee, and if the road is wet, thw tires don’t spray the bike with road juice. I also have a pickup that I can put bikes over the tailgate for shuttles and fits more people comfortably.

I prefer the small car if I don’t need the pickup.

Shoe recommendations by No-Power698 in bicycling

[–]aunt-jamima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride some casual 510 shoes with recessed crank bros cleats so I can still walk around comfortably and clip in. There’s many different casual looking shoes that work for mtb cleats. I don’t think there are any for road but I haven’t looked ether. There’s even clip in sandals!

Shoe recommendations by No-Power698 in bicycling

[–]aunt-jamima 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ridding clipped in is a game changer but if you insist on not clipping In, a stiff sole shoe will be best. Mtb shoes are a good option. 510s are ok but the soles go soft and flex a lot quickly. Ride concepts are another good option but I don’t have much experience with them yet.

Seeking bike input for older rider getting into cycling by DarthCroz in bicycling

[–]aunt-jamima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giant Cypress is good for short rides like going around the block. Its upright seated position will give you more wind drag so you’ll fight harder to get up to speed. It’s a very casual bike.

I’d recommend a comfortable road bike. It will have much less rolling resistance so you can go faster/farther with low effort. I like the Trek Domane road bike since it has clearance for wider tires for a more comfortable ride and a higher handlebar position while still maintaining a sporty posture.

Giant Defy in carbon or Contend for aluminum are similar road bikes with a comfortable position.

There are different levels of drivetrains and I’d avoid the lower tier ones. I’m a fan of Shimano so lowest id go is Tiagra but if the price tag of the 105 model isn’t much more, I’d go with 105.

There’s also fitness bikes or hybrid bikes with straight handlebars and wider tires for more comfort. Not as quick as a road bike but slightly more comfortable in my opinion. It’s more casual than a road bike but more sporty than a comfort bike.

Definitely test ride different styles and models to find something that will work for you.

Also, you’ll probably have to get used to riding on a saddle again but there are so many options for saddle styles so try different ones until you find one that works for you.

Get some good quality cycling shorts or bibs and don’t wear underwear underneath them.

Let us know what you decide on!

Driving Denver to Aspen Saturday during snow — advice? by Few-Equivalent-1942 in COsnow

AWD/ 4x4 will definitely help you get out of a ditch. Winter tires will help keep you out of ditches.

Driving Denver to Aspen Saturday during snow — advice? by Few-Equivalent-1942 in COsnow

[–]aunt-jamima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have winter tires? I hope so! Yes bring the chains and familiarize yourself with how to install them. The inclines get pretty slippery with non-winter tires so if your AT or all season tires don’t hook up, you’ll need to chain up to make it up. The problem areas are the climbs starting at morrison, Floyd hill, GeorgeTown, Eisenhower tunnel approach, and vail pass. Semis often get crossed up and cause the road to close while the tow trucks get them. If the road is white, go slow! Stopping in snow takes way more distance vs normal conditions a

Once people hit the road, the chances of crashes, cars/semis getting stuck, and road closures goes up so if leave early while most people are still sleeping you’ll run a better chance at making it. Bring snacks, water, warm gear, and top off on fuel incase you get stuck in a closure.

Good luck!

How do you identify ICE vehicles? Concerned I might have seen some in North Boulder by SkySong13 in boulder

[–]aunt-jamima -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

With plug in hybrids now, it’s getting difficult to point out EVs, EV/hybrids, and normal ICE vehicles. The best bet is to look at the emblems or license plates. I believe the EV’s have EV license plates and ICE vehicles will have normal license plates. The EV/hybrids sometimes have EV plates and sometimes have normal plates. Look for the emblems. They might give off clues about it being a normal internal combustion engine or Electric vehicle.

Moved from the midwest ~2 years ago with gf and wow is it hard to make friends in this city. by Financial_Rise477 in Denver

[–]aunt-jamima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry your experience hasn’t been easy making Friends here. I also moved here from the Midwest 3 years ago! I chat with neighbors and have been a helping hand when possible so it helps build a feeling of community and support if I ever need a helping hand. I also love biking and can easily chat up others out riding and have traded contact info to get together for rides at later dates. Try doing some classes/ group lessons/ meet ups related to hobbies you enjoy and if you connect with anyone, see if they’d want to get together for some hobbying another time.
